Shame that Serena couldn't do it but Vinci was unbelievable there with those little half volleys at the net.

Bloody brilliant. I did kind of want Serena to get the win but at the same, I'm chuffed for Vinci and Pennetta. Two war horses who have been ever present tricky players on the tour getting to have their day. I think Pennetta wins it personally though.

Yikes. That's a huge shock. Serena looked uncharacteristically nervous and beat herself in the end. A shame that she won't complete the calendar year GS (and probably won't ever now) but it's always good to see new champions and I'm sure Vinci and Pennetta will put on an entertaining final.

Fantastic that The Beast ™ won't emulate the great Steffi Graf this year. She may be one of the best, but she isn't on par with Graf or Court thats for sure, and never will be.

Djokovic has started quickly here, breaking Cilic on his first service game. Surprised to find out Cilic has never beaten the world #1.

Djokovic is playing ridiculous tennis here.

6-0 inside 24 mins. Cilic has barely won a point.

I wouldn't mind seeing another Federer v Djokovic final in a few days time.

Even though Federer beat Djokovic the last time they met, the latter was fatigued and I think it'd be better having Stan face him - he'll give him a better game.

I would as I know exactly what would happen. Federer won't beat Djokovic, only Wawrinka has a chance.

It's unlikely that Cilic is going to win, so out of Djokovic, Wawrinka and Federer, i'd like to see Djokovic win another slam.

I'm rooting for Stan out of the rest of them.

Poor Goran, he looks embarassed for his protege. He should probably don a pair of shorts and try himself, he'd probably do better.

This is over, Cilic has completely froze. At least we get to watch the next one at a decent time, I was expecting a 1am start or something.

Yeah I thought this would be a four or even five setter if Cilic came out playing as he can. He has been woeful however and the next match will probably be on by midnight, and then hopefully its a cracker to make up for this.

Yep, Cilic still carrying that ankle injury but Djokovic is just ridiculous. He's reached the final of every Slam and every Masters event this year, the best player in the world by a million miles.

He's been in the final of every event he's played this year apart from the first tournament in Doha. Frightening stuff.

What a contradiction of styles these two have, and yet both equally superb on the eyes.

Federer looked good there. Have probably only seen him about 5 or 6 times play this season but he looks if anything even fitter, sharper to the ball and the reflexes are great.

Could be a good final after all.

Simply amazing, straight setting Wawrinka like that. I still can't see how he can live with Djokovic over 5 sets though.

Expected Djokovic to win comfortably but jesus, not that comfortably. Most one-sided semi-final since... ever? Surprised Federer straight setted Stan. Just goes to show how brilliant he is though, it was only a couple of years ago we all thought he was on his way out.

Like you lot, I can't see past Djokovic. Should be a great match whatever the outcome.

Remember all these GOAT arguments. How can some say it's not Federer?! The man is still a genius at the age of 34.

I completely agree. Federer has been playing unbelieveable Tennis for many years now, and he is still reaching grand slam finals at the age of 34. The guy really is a genius and the best ever player by some distance IMO.

Never has been in any doubt for me but surely now no-one can argue?

When do we start talking about Djokovic overtaking Nadal? :animatedf:

I don't think we should go overboard just yet. Let's remember the force Nadal once was and particularly how he owned Federer for almost their entire rivalry. In my book Djokovic has now joined the other 2 in the top 5 ever though, how can he not be. He has dismantled both of them in numerous finals. As time goes on you can see him adding a stack more Slams to his haul and if he wins here that'll be 10 and I definitely see him overtaking Nadal's 14 and even getting close to Fed's 17. There's simply no players coming through with the required level to challenge.

Yeah I agree. The way Djokovic is going he could very well catch Federer's haul of slams. It would also be hard not to justify him as a potential goat as he has been dominant with two of the most successful players ever playing alongside him.
Poor Murray, at any other time he'd be the man but it looks like he'll have to settle for being a fine player playing amongst greats.

Pennetta just retired during her victory speech. Fair play to her. What a way to go out.
