Things change quickly, we have Burton Albion trying to make a rivalry with us! (seems to be more the club and press than their fans) Despite many Vale fans having a bit of a soft spot for them.

Stoke have done their usual messy start then booted the manager but always seem to dig themselves out of it just, maybe circling the plug hole enough times will see them drop through to L1 and we can get the Potteries Derby back, games with Crewe are 1/10th of the intensity of that, Walsall have tried to re-ignite an old rivalry since DC but that's massively one way with them singing songs and posting about us and us not really being bothered about them. Just not the same!
I can assure you - we are not trying to get a rivalry going with you. It’s just another game. And now we are not in the same division even less so. We do not have a local derby. It’s great.

It's only soulless because it's empty. Put 25,000 Newcastle fans and 5,000 West Ham fans in to fill it and it's a cracking ground.
I like your ground but if it's three times the size with the same sized crowd it too would appear soulless.
I've been in Meadow Lane full and with just over 2000 against Barnet for a league game and it's gone from brilliant to terrible.
This. When we have sold out for the big cup games against Chelsea, United, Liverpool it’s great (though 28,500 people in there feels a distant memory at the moment). Even when it’s not full, but just a lot busier for league games - see many 15,000+ crowds over the years for games when it mattered in L2, L1 and the Championship, it’s a different proposition. When we got promoted out of League Two back in 2019, we had a 20,718 crowd (and 17,250 back in 2008 when we won the league) so even in this division it can be worthwhile having the facilities and be a different kettle of fish entirely.

It’s not the ground, it’s the shit L2 football club and resulting L2/L1 size fanbase (which goes up and down depending on the league).

It's not a derby but we let them think it is because we feel sorry for them because their only real rival is Telford United.
Can see them dropping right through and playing them at some point - outdated Hurstball and no money could equal disaster imo

Highlights from our defeat last night and quite some colourful language from the stand right above the camera when they score their second goal..

I was of the view that Hurstball gets you out of National League and max midtable L2 but I think you are right, just relying on “us shape” might not get you even that, the games moved on since we got promotion.

It’s big budget Hollywood / Stockyball or super fluid Notts/Cloughball for success. Skillful harvesting round the London Boroughs (plus an undervalued Hurst reject striker) might get you a Crawley type success. For survival, Woodmanball probably has as good prospects as Hurstball for a limited time - collect a load of big athletic feckers from the London boroughs and a decent goal-hanging shithouse striker that doesn’t want to move Norf to play for some norfen cants.

Just come across this on Facebook
Cheltenham Town FC up for sale.
Some wag has suggested that they amalgamate with FGR. :eye:

I suspect that's someone taking the piss. Though there is a Cheltenham fan on the Robin's Nest who has long suggested merging with Gloucester City - you know, our traditional rivals!!

These weirdos exist.

I'm pretty sure he was mickey taking.
I don't think there is any love between all three Gloucestershire rivals.

Oddly, that is correct. FGR were a non-entity until we were relegated in 2015, then our younger fans jumped on the rivalry bandwagon because we were desperate for a rival having not played Gloucester in a competitive game since 1997. They obviously don't like us because we're the biggest team in the county (which is like being the tallest man at a dwarves convention).

We hate Gloucester because of local tradition - they hate us for the same reason - it's more than football.

Gloucester hate FGR because they're a village team doing better than the big city club (note, Gloucester is not a big city).

I don't know FGR fans' views on Gloucester to be honest.
