Awful decision by the referee not to stop play before their winner as it was obvious to almost everyone in the ground that Gunning was out cold.

Marcus Bignot said that the referee apologised to him immediately after the game but that doesn't change the situation.

I thought we played far better in the first half than we have for a while but then fell away a bit in the 2nd half which Wycombe pretty much dominated.

Not a very good weekend for me seeing that I tipped Newport to win in the Killer Football competition on here. :ffs:

Shocking refereeing and sportsmanship from Wycombe (but that's par for the course from then really). Running off to celebrate a goal scored with a player knocked out - great behaviour.

That referee needs some kind of investigation there.

So the majority of Grimsby fans agree that Cowan-Hall had his back to Gunning on the floor but you know better, how are our players to know he was out cold?

Oh come on mowgli, as a fan you can tell that players know when a player is injured or not. He was completely motionless - simply the reactions from Grimsby players nearby should've told them something was up.

Akinfenwa steps over an unconscious player in the build up and runs off to celebrate, that for me is absolutely despicable.

I mean what do you want him to do exactly?

Only one man on that pitch needs calling out and that's the ref, he fucked up royally and should've blew up, can't blame any Wycombe players for playing on.

I mean who knows - maybe appreciate the fact that there's a fellow professional lying motionless on the floor and not step over him to celebrate? Or is being a normal human being and giving a shit when someone is hurt such a foreign idea these days?

I'm guessing by stepping over an unconscious player you tend to get an idea. I don't mind that Akinfenwa didn't go and help Gunning, but stepping over him and waltzing off to celebrate, not flagging up to anybody that a fellow pro is out cold is unbelievable.

Tbf to the Wycombe players, I don't see how they can acknowledge Gunning is unconscious because most of them seem to concentrate on the ball- even Akinfenwa can be given the benefit of the doubt, as some players go to the floor after an aerial challenge.

For the ref to not see it, its criminal. If he didn't see it before the goal went in, he should've blown for it afterwards. You can see Shaun Pearson trying to get his attention before the strike and Zak Mills goes to Gunning as the ball is travelling.

After seeing the reaction to the Torres incident, would it have taken 3 players to run over to him for him to see it?

To further back my point - look at how unnatural his lying position is. He's just completely sprawled out where he fell - it doesn't even look like he's faking or slightly injured. That's the same sprawl a boxer has when they're completely out.

There's no excuse for jumping over that to celebrate. None at all.

Yes it looks like a nasty hit and by all accounts he is fine which is the takeaway from all this, the referee has apologised for his mistake (not that it makes amends) but to say Wycombe players shouldn't celebrate is crazy and nit picky at best.

Just seen our full highlights which have a broader view of the game. Pearson sees Gunning instantly and is screaming at the referee, Mills eventually sees and runs across the box to help him before the shot is taken and McKeown glances over, stays where he is but doesn't really look interested in attempting a save. Don't think many others see it. Just wanted to have one last look at it but we can put it to bed now, Gunning is okay and we weren't going to make the playoffs anyway so the loss of points isn't a big deal. Let's just hope we don't see another incident like it because it was definitely one of the most bizarre things I've seen.
