One benefit to our fringe players being battered 4-0 by West Ham kids last night - at least 9 players will never wear a Cheltenham shirt again.
West Ham beat us too, they are the first kids team to look decent in this comp

Did you think that when we went to Wembley.

Fantastic day out

Yeah I did actually, I boycotted it.

It's a pisspot nothing trophy that we mocked Southampton for winning in 2010 when they celebrated it like they'd actually won a major honour like we had two years' prior.

Although it was always thought of as a mickey mouse tinpot cup, it was watchable when it was just the bottom 2 divisions entered, but lost all credibility when the U23/21 kids sides were chucked in.
Quite what it teaches them to get spanked by lower league sides is a mystery, as they need a mix of experienced pros and youth imo to prepare them for mens footy

Well this is odd.

We've moved our tinpot cup game with AFCW to 18 Nov (we called off our away game v Wigan for international callups)....which is fine, but then we made it a 12:30 KO?

So any benefit gained by not having it on a school night is probably then taken away by the early KO.

I'd be surprised if more than one home stand is open for this - it's a dead rubber as both us and AFCW are through to the next round already.

Presumably helps the players by not having too much of a gap between games.

Att: 716, the lowest crowd in our history.
Simpson fielded a reasonably strong team and Gibson continued his lively start to season with another 2 goals.

Be careful, you might start sounding like Port Vale fans!
I have no rose tinted glasses if we play well i praise the team, if we are crap i say so. Bad luck and awful finishing kept the score low but make no mistake this team is now on fire.
Bodvarrson looks fit and hungry and is ready to start games alongside Charles. Maghoma has come in and added extra energy in midfield.
We now have the international break and tough tough games against both Portsmouth and Oxford away.
Mendes Gomes and Dempsey will be back to bolster the squad. In a bad league i fancy us to go on and win it now

Up to 7, now. Massive.
Took over 1500 hundred last night to Stockport..........Guess it is how you look at the competition
It is the biggest cup Exeter can win this season, but maybe if you call it a micky mouse tinpot competition
That is all you deserve.
Guess it is a rugby town like Wigan

so we've just signed Lyle Taylor, whose most prolific spell was with AFCW, who we play on Sat...

and AFCW's star striker is Ali Al-Hamadi, who used to play for us, but never really got much of a chance...

it's gonna be an old boys' revenge goalfest.

Possibly.

But still not going to watch it (even though I've got an annual iFollow pass).

Thats just your opinion. Didn't we sell over 40k when we played Sunderland. Then when we got Salford in the final we sold getting on for 60k but ended up getting played behind closed doors cos of covid.

Any chance to get to Wembley and I reckon most fans would be up for it as the above figures prove.

664 turned up for our dead rubber v AFCW - both teams are already through, the only thing at stake was the guarantee of a home draw.

We won 1-0 but are generally better away anyway (meaning any home “advantage” we gain is dubious). :ffs:

Didn’t watch, but can’t imagine either side was majorly going for it given the amount of subs, fringe player debuts etc that both sides were doing.

Ah well. Yes it’s a shite competition but I can’t see us doing much in the league this season so I’m ok with us being in it.

Bizarrely we are putting out a strong side tonight, after not bothering when we still could qualify.
Presumably for fitness as we haven't played for 10 days.
Just hoping for no injuries..

We’ve gone the opposite. 6 x 16/17 year olds, couple of bench warmers and a couple of starters who’ve now gone off after 40 mins. The yoof aren’t doing too bad but we’ll be even weaker in the 2nd half - if that’s possible.

0-1 HT

Full strength us less our injuries ( one fit centre back ). Beat Mansfield 2-1
I stayed at home in the warmth, and looking at the ground so did everyone else too.
Good.
