Wow, pretty much our first team squeeze past their kids. I didn't watch it live or on ifollow (£10 you're having a laugh) and by all accounts we were awful. Chucked a centre half up front in the second half.
We will get pummeled by Bolton on Saturday

Here's who's left in this incredibly prestigious competition.

We're usually out by this stage, so historically I haven't taken much notice past the first round, but it seems to me that there's a lot more of the Prem kids sides left in the pot than usual - is that true?

Probably about the same, surprised Liverpool are through, we've beat them 5-0 and 4-2 in recent seasons.

Seems about the same, I'm hoping for a Fulham v Forest final.

West Ham can have it, the only U21 side to win their group and they did look very decent against us, and the others apparently.,
Hopefully we have eyed a few up for loans

A Tuesday away night at Wrexham, Blackpool, Accrington or Wigan in the Pizza Cup is a lose-lose-lose-lose situation!

Onto the magic of the Pizza Cup, Bolton away for us, expect with other priorities in the FA Cup with a replay and the QF of the Carabao us to play a mainly youthful side in this plus a couple coming back from long term injuries, possibly Iacovitti and Balmer and maybe give Grant half a game to get minutes but mostly likely to see Walters, Loft and Conlon along with the youth's in Shorrock, Brazier and Dipepa.

Expect Bolton will put a fairly strong side out and happy for us to end our interest in this trophy here with the pile up of fixtures we currently have with 10 games in 30 days.

All about the minutes in the kids and long term injuries here 4-0 loss.

Away at Accrington for us although a midday pitch inspection was called yesterday so it might not be going ahead. I'm assuming it'll be rearranged for next Tuesday if it doesn't.

Wrexham away.
We are resting a few for this, so the players are fresh to lose against Stevenage on Saturday.
I predict a 5-1 defeat tonight.
I will check the score on flashscores and that’s as much interest as I can muster for this game.

Would be happy for any of your lads to stick in a few tasty challenges to the Bolton "first teamers". Would even it out a bit before Monday as we'll have 3 first teamers out.

After an arranged pitch inspection and then no pitch inspection, our game has been called off after the due kick off time!

Low quality half of football, hilariously bad goal to concede and Ryan Loft has a chance to take a touch and score a simple goal and the touch is like that of an elephant.

Like a league game we play some good stuff but the final ball is missing.

A gate of 323.

But we won, and I don't give a fuck what a hopeless competition it is right now, it stops the rot.

Was going to say similar. You’re tidy between the boxes but rubbish in them. Pretty much the same story for the past few years when I’ve seen vale

Decent exercise; Bolton were more fussed about it than us, understandably with our other commitments but we got minutes into players coming back from injury and some youth players.

Summed up the intent when Bolton throw on the players they did second half and we throw on 16-17 year old schoolboys, made it fun though as they played with a bit more freedom, liked the look of Lomax who nearly scored with a cross!

Weird penalty incident as well. Happy with the run in this in terms of seeing the youths in the games we’ve played so from that point it’s been decent for us and thankfully it’s now one less pressure of games with us still very active in the other two cups.

Walters was quality again, got to get that pro contract sorted asap.

Beat Wrexham. Away.
Only positive is it might give us some confidence for Saturday.

The team you lot put out had more first teamers than I was expecting - chance to build a bit of confidence for the league?

You probably just about deserved the win but it's not a surprise to see you struggling in league one on that display.

That is exactly what we did. Given we are so bad it was a confidence builder. Stockton came on as a sub and so did brayford otherwise it was full tilt.
I was hoping we would lose so it was closer to him getting sacked but he does what he always does - goes on a mini run and most of the fans go quiet again.

Next round draw:

Round of 16 Draw – Northern Section

Derby County v Bradford City

Blackpool v Burton Albion

Accrington Stanley or Lincoln City v Bolton Wanderers

Doncaster Rovers v Wigan Athletic

Round of 16 Draw – Southern Section

Peterborough United v Crawley Town

Brighton & Hove Albion U21 v Reading

Wycombe Wanderers v West Ham United U21

Portsmouth or AFC Wimbledon v Oxford United

I'm happy with that, I'm sure West 'Am's kids are far better technically than our players, but the younger players can lack street smarts and dark arts (although we're nowhere near as bad at the latter as we used to be).

Yes it's a shit cup but we're not going to do anything in the league this season, so I'm OK with us actually trying in it for once.

that's disappointing, we're screwed then.

The only thing counting in our favour is that we have a West Ham kid on loan (Freddie Potts) who will be able to give the lowdown on the players, but I presume the conditions of his loan won't allow us to play him against WHUFC.

But you never know with the tinpot, maybe that rule doesn't apply in such a less than prestigious competition.
