Have they changed the pot rules again?

In 2014 there were 4 pots:

Pot 1 seeded teams
Pot 2 africa and south america
Pot 3 Asia and concacaf
Pot 4 european teams ( One of them were moved to pot 2)

I always think that if you are in the second seed box and you are confident of qualifying from the group stage (1st or 2nd), it is beneficial to have one of the tournament favourites in your group because it takes one of the big sides out of your knock-out round pathway.

Yes. Now it's ranked by fifa rankings (the current one) with only European teams able to play against each other in the group stages.

Fun fact: the past three world cups were won by the teams who had the toughest groups ( in fifa rankings)
