We've got you tomorrow in that naff cup competition, haven't we? Expecting David Sharpe to make a cameo. At centrehalf.

Cloughie loves Sharpe, but I’m sure he will dust his boots off and snap him in half.

Yeah we play you at the mill tomorrow night, we’ve even got a unregistered player in the league who’s only 50/50 if he’s fit enough to play

We've gone down the Head Coach route with our sporting director taking a more prominent role in the squad building. It was one of the rumoured reasons which contributed to Wild's departure. Early signs are good.

That is a good model for you as Clemence is still a novice manager but is a very good coach.
Glad to see him starting well with you lot.
Like to see us both go up.

Also think a neglected thing about our model is that our head of recruitment basically has no real football experience outside of spreadsheets. People talk about managers wanting to push up and have a say on players but think appointing someone who has been a manager into a DOF role is immediately asking for trouble as they’ll quickly start thinking they could do that job better as well

Our sporting director used to be an agent, not a manager;- I wonder if that's why he's doing fine so far?

The dark arts of the agents world surely will be beneficial.....they are normally just one step behind satanic rituals to get what they want !!!

We've had Kenny Jackett as DoF for a while and he seems pretty chilled out about it. Also with Andy Hessenthaler as chief scout we've got a heap of football league managerial experience behind the scenes and it seems to blend pretty well.

We're on our second Director of Football.

Our first one was Micky Moore, and you can't argue with the success he had. He and Michael Duff worked brilliantly with each other, and the players he brought in were (by and large) hugely successful. Of course, if you listen to him, he's the greatest football mind in the history of the World and Pep takes notes from him. But as I said, with him as DOF we went from battling relegation in League 2 to a lower mid-table League 1 team. It's no coincidence we dropped like a stone when he went last summer.

This past summer we appointed Gary Johnson as the new DOF. It's hard to judge him at the moment, but he apparently has a decent working relationship with Michael Flynn. A large section of our fans though suimply can't abide him. He alienated the fan base at the end of his managerial reign and now a lot of fans have it in their heads that he's the reason we've started so shite. To be honest, it was a baffling appointment by the board. Even if we turn things around and are successful, people will say it's despite him and not because of him.

Stand corrected, Newport, and possibly Notts County. Any others?

Maybe my age, but if I were manager I’d want to stand or fall by my own signings and methods. If the results go wrong, do the recruitment team sack themselves or is it the coaches fault?
Our signings.are.pretty much made by our DOF craig cope.

The approach Notts have taken is essentially the same as Brighton and Brentford who also have owners in the gambling industry. Probably not a coincidence
