In the predictions, I thought Bolton would just miss out on the play-offs, based on the poor recruiting in the summer, which expected would be remedied in January. I'd didn't expect either such a bad start or such a total transformation, with nearly all of the squad additions in January paying off.

Wouldn't like to predict how they'll fare in L1, though progress up the leagues is likely to require significant further recruitment.

They will do what they have done for the last 25 years. Spend money they have not got.

I took a look at the teams we may be facing and like most noted Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich, Charlton, Portsmouth and Wigan , Five under achievers and one that to their credit have punched well above their weight.

Biggest club ? very speculative obviously Sunderland and Wednesday stand out but it's all relative we can attract crowds of over 20k despite being in the part of the country with the most football league clubs, for me it's just geography would Sunderland if they were situated just 12 Miles from the Manchester giants and just a bit further away from Merseyside, then throw in Burnley, Blackpool, PNE, Blackburn, Wigan, etc etc attract the same number hell no, The fact that despite the compettition we still attract a fan base that can suppport a Premier leagure team is actually quite remarkable.

The who's the bigger club debate is a tough one to call.

But fwiw I think Sunderland, Pompey and Wednesday are definitely bigger clubs than Bolton. I would say Ipswich are bigger as well.

The hardest bit for me is deciding whether Bolton are presently a bigger club than Charlton, Wigan (post Springfield Park) and Plymouth.

I have to be honest. Who cares if we are big, small, medium sized... or a pub team. Club size is irrelevant. We all love our clubs (no matter who we support) and I just want Bolton to be consistently winning games. We all love winning. Whether that’s 4th tier or top tier. We have just spent the last year in the 4th tier and the second half of it has been one of the most enjoyable of my life (certainly recently). I just don’t understand this tinpot league mentality of some fans. We have been here for a reason. These guys love their clubs as much as we love ours. And whether you believe it’s tin pot or not the last 20odd games have been fantastic.

I don’t give a toss if we are bigger or smaller than Pompey or whoever else. I just want to beat them, enjoy the banter, wish them luck and move on to enjoy the next game. Of course we’d all love to be as high up the leagues as possible but I don’t understand the mentality of people who have to come on a forum to try and discredit who they believe to be the perceived ‘smaller clubs’. It’s basically saying our club is more important than your club. Which is total bollocks because we aren’t.

There’s plenty of decent Bolton fans on here who always seem to be fighting an uphill battle against complete twats like thefutureswhite or whatever he’s called.
