Just like what happened to Chelsea (or was it Spurs) when they were found guilty of the exact same thing . . . Oh, hang on . . .

Numbers 6 and 59 make sad reading
From a football point of view, perhaps. But, they shouldn't be treated any differently to the other 58 on that list. I'd suggest they all make for sad reading if you happen to work for one of them!

It was Spurs in 1994. Tottenham were found guilty of the same thing in 1994 but their eventual punishment was only a £600k fine. they successfully appealed against a year ban from the fa cup and a 12 point penalty.

A case of "one rule for one, and one rule for another"

Thanks for the reminder about 1990! One of my earliest footballing memories, and easily the most painful

- second was when I nearly fell down the stairs at Brisbane Road when a wooden chair I was leaning on crumbled to nothing in my hand.

We were demoted 2 leagues for financial infidelity. (later reduced to just one league on appeal) A real shame as that team in 1990 was probably better equipped than the 1993 side.
Yes, that was a good team you had under Ardiles.

We were actually promoted for about two weeks after the initial demotion, and sold season tickets on the basis that we would be in the Second Division. That is another reason for the 'Swindle' jibes from our supporters, in addition to the lights going out.

Long memories....

Interestingly, in 1990 when Swindon were stopped from going up after winning the playoffs, they actually promoted Sunderland rather than reprieving the relegated team.

The same also happened in the Dr Marten's League in 1997 when Gresley couldn't go up so another club got a lucky promotion to the Conference rather than a Conference club getting a reprieve. That club was Cheltenham Town - it could all have been so different.

With those two aside though, I think it's now commonplace that reprieves are granted now rather than additional promotions.

What was the reasoning behind Gresley's non-admission to the Conference? Looking back at that time they were a far bigger club locally than Burton Albion yet they took on two totally differing trajectories since!

Their ground was little more than a roped off field I believe. it was certainly ground grading, and they weren't prepared to do it up, or couldn't afford to. It's a shame for them because they won the league at an absolute canter (11 point in the end). Whilst looking into them I've just realised that their manager that season, Paul Futcher, was also the manager of Southport who we beat at Wembley a year later.

Didn't Stevenage have a similar issue in the mid 90's when they should of come up to the Football League I recall?

Kidderminster saved us in '94 when their ground didn't meet the necessary ground criteria ...

Ourselves, Stevenage and Kidderminster in consecutive years.

At least all three made it up eventually.

Before my time so i don't know the details but looking back it certainly seems a bit strange. We'd actually hosted some Chester games in the FL a couple of years earlier so either the ground requirements had changed or the ground itself had deteriorated massively in the intervening years which seems unlikely.

Or could be a classic case of some bankrolled tinpotter (as we seemingly were back then) throwing all its money at the playing squad without doing any work on the ground.

We'd hosted Chester as they had the Deva built - the Moss was good enough for them to play Arsenal in the league cup I think. The year we won the conference we had a list of improvements which needed sorting - no later than 31st December! Just the 5 months before season end! Worst winter in a number of years put a delay on it all, but was done by the end of March. Not good enough. Chester offered to host us, not allowed. No promotion.

Have heard that if Bury get through this they are lining up sponsorship deals with Kebab Station and Gonzo's Tea Room.

For that to happen the people of Oldham need to get off their arses and eat more kebabs. Ffs lads what's going on. Nothing better after a night on the lash. Get stuck in and keep Kebab Station alive

Yep we finished 11 points adrift at the bottom of the league but stayed up in 1996.

Woking were second in the conference and their ground was up to League standards. Stevenage had Barry Hayles banging in the goals for them and their chairman phoned ours and asked for a large payment from us or he said he would sell Hayles and blow the title as a result. He admitted in this call that they knew they had missed the deadline for ground improvements.

When Stevenage sued the football league our chairman produced a tape recording of this blackmail attempt and their case was thrown out.

Still a lovely club, Stevenage and it is a shame their ground meets the requirements in my opinion.

Rumours of us having a new owner by the end of the week which could be the reason for the delay in Lowe's decision to Plymouth. It could be a big week for us.

Thats great news t.a gateshead got saved today from too

I heard on a podcast today that Gateshead sent out a twitter confirming that all staff had been paid their April wages. Someone retweeted it and replied saying "I haven't received mine, and you still have my laptop"
