Is this where everyone ignores the topic of the thread and bangs on about how good their players are? I bet Kenny End is desperate to come in here, just for old times sake. Already been mentioned but we only have 2 players that deserve a mention, Manny Smith and Louis Moult. Bar those 2 I would honestly not give a single shit if the rest of the entire squad was released this summer.

Some of the best players I've seen are Rendell, Oster, Fairhurst, Turnbull. Lee Cook early on this season looked way too good to play down here but seems like he's done the square root of sod all in terms of goalscoring since. And the best 2 players who have long since gone, Marcus Maddison and Harry Beautyman.

Only a few players have really stood out for me this season, playing for other teams, though to be fair I will have seen them play twice at most. I thought that Saah of Woking was excellent at their place, Ngala of Barnet at our place and John-Lewis for Grimsby. When it comes to out and out strikers it has to be either Parkin or Akinde, that one will always be down to personal preference, one is dangerous from almost anywhere that he can see the goal and the other in the box. My pick from our team would be Rob Sinclair, we really missed him when he was injured, an unsung player who really makes things tick in midfield.

Andy Yiadom is the best RB in the league by a country mile.

Tom Murphy of Dover deserves a shout. Best individual performance against us this season IMO.

Unashamedly nicked from the L2 forum, who gets your vote as the best 10 players currently playing in the Conference?

In no particular order:

John Akinde
Luisma Villa
Carl Magney
Manny Smith
Scott Rendell
Luke Young
Jared Hodgekiss
Chris Lines
Jon Parkin
Ellis Harrison

Special mention to Ricky Modeste :2thumb:

Notable absenses: Simeon Akinola, Josh Payne, Louis Moult, Andy Monkhouse.

I've probably forgotten a hell of a lot of players here and grossly over/underrated some, but there you go. Will be interesting to see your opinions!

I'm not going to act like I know enough of other teams players because I really don't, but just to reply in regards to our players.

Ellis can't be in there, he's hit a ridiculous run of form and it looks like everything he touches turns to goals at the minute, but he needs to extend that for a longer period of time before he could be put as one of the top ten in the league, potential perhaps to be at a lot higher level but we'll see.

Chris Lines is fair enough, his assist record since re-joining has been remarkable.

Monkhouse wouldn't be anywhere near the top marks, does a good job but not in our 5 most important players.

I'd be thoroughly surprised if there was a better centre back in the league than Tom Parkes, same with left back with Lee Brown - both top drawer this season. Stuart Sinclair would also be right up there before his injuries, massive shame and would have been our easy pick for player of the season.

Not sure I agree about Monkhouse, Miagsy. A lot of our play goes through him and whilst he may not be a dynamic, pacey wide man like people (wrongly) expect of him, he has a positive impact on matches with his height and goalscoring. I would say that he is one of our top 5 most important players and DC clearly agrees as he simply never misses a game.

Absolutely agree with you on Ellis, Chris Lines and Tom Parkes, but I don't rate Lee Brown anywhere near as highly as some people seem to. He's steady and nothing more, even at this level. Don't get me wrong, his commitment and attitude is spot on and I really like the bloke, but as a player he certainly hasn't stood out this season despite the fact we have been playing at a lower level.

Damien Reeves has got to be mentioned. Always manages to hit around 15-20 goals for Alty teams that never even get close to threatening the top half of the table. All his goals come from open play, too.

Probably agree on Parkes being the best CB in the league, from what I've seen. He's been an absolute rock every time I've seen Brizzle. It's between him and Shaun Pearson, for me. Pearson always gets ignored on these kind of things, despite consistently being a huge reason why we've had one of the best defences in the divison for the past couple of seasons. Managed to trim 7 yellow cards off his disciplinary record this season, too. Seen hardly any Wrexham though, so can't comment on Manny Smith.

As with others I don't really take that much notice of the other teams players unless someone really shines in a game and I can't say that anyone has really grabbed my attention this season.

On our players Carl Magnay has surely got to be in there, the most consistant performer we have had for several years and I agree with SoC that Shaun Pearson deserves more credit than he gets. James McKeown, by his standards, has not been as consistent as recent seasons and has make one or two gaffs. The only other player of ours I would put forward is Craig Disley who was written by many of our fans at the start of the season as "a squad player at best" but has since been ultra-consistent and has weighed in with a number of important goals.

You don't need to act like you know much about the players at all. A lot of information about how good players are can be gleaned off of this forum alone relatively easily. Then you just pool that with what you know yourself and it can lead you to make a fairly accurate list. It's all opinions and estimations, which is what makes this so interesting!

Pearson should probably be in there, yeah. I'd probably drop Luisma for him. I think Luisma is absolute quality, but he doesn't fit our system. He'd be a star for someone like Gateshead that keeps the ball on the floor more often.

Yep that's exactly what happens and we basically just end up with a squad list for each club on here.

"Surely 'X' has to be in there, 'Y' has been amazing for us, 'Z' would get in any other team in this league."

On behalf of Lincoln City I'd like to announce that none of our players deserve to be anywhere near this list.

Thanks.

To be fair, Z has been class this season.

Not sure about X though. Tends to be a bit anonymous in some games.

This should be a lot better/easier when we've got the highlights package to go off.

The argument will then move onto "X is immense, he does all the dirty work that never make the highlights but make or team tick"

I don't expect him to be a pacey wide man and he is very consistent, but I did hope he'd chip in with more goals this year and he flits in and out of games. Does have an excellent link up with Brown though. I do rate him, but I just think Parkes, Brown, Lines, Manse, Sinclair if fit and Taylor are probably ahead of him. Open for interpretation though!

As far as Brown goes, I highly rate him. Don't think I can remember a time a winger has beat him all season, overlaps well, decent delivery better than a lot of wingers i've seen this season. Has a set piece. Rarely under 7/10 for a left back is pretty good and better some weeks too.

Apologies Urban, I wasn't saying others were pretending, was just saying that I wouldn't as I really don't know. One of the best individual performances I've seen against us was Blissett, we signed him and he's not really in our side much so I can't really judge on that. I can say who's stood out against us but they probably wouldn't be mentioned in the top 10 and I definitely don't have enough knowledge on other teams' players.

If Brett Williams played like he did against forest green week in week out he would have hit 20+ goals this season but for some reason he is just so inconsistent. If we were on tv every game Brett would be top scorer.

This alone makes him the stand out player in non league football.

At the end of the day this thread is all a matter of opinion. Yes Southport arent exactly quality oppostion but still. Woody is also very consistent with his level of performance. A rare trait at this level.

Glad Pearson remains under the radar, for almost 4 seasons he's done a 4 man job in defence and could easily be regarded as the best centre half in the league. No attention is only a good thing for us, although he's out of contract so it's down to Hursty boy to keep him roped in.

He did nothing against you on Saturday (then again barely anyone did anything from either side) but I would hardly say Williams has been ordinary this season, he has scored 15 goals in a team 18th in the division that have only scored 50 goals in total, which suggests he has not been our problem this season. In fact I voted him player of the season and have no shame in doing so as I do believe he has been the best of a bad bunch.

Is he one of the top 10 players in the conference this season? No, but has he been better than "completely ordinary" as you suggest.
Is he off to Forest Gump Rovers next season?

This thread leads me to think we should start the voting for non-league team of the year?!

Good idea. I don't mind collecting the votes if people are wanting to vote for a Conference team of the year.

I could do one position at a time and give 24 hours for votes to come in before moving onto the next position.

As MD says this thread turns into a talk about your own players thread followed swiftly by MD talking about Wrexham players ;)

Anyway I agree with Les here, those 4 players are the only 4 I would be genuinely gutted if we didn't have next season no matter which league we are in. Disley despite his age is still an excellent midfielder and does a job at both ends of the pitch. Mckeown is still one of the best keepers in this league and a long with Shaun Pearson (who for some reason never gets mentioned) has been at the heart of the top 2 or 3 defences in this league every season for the last 3 years.

And of course Magnay has come in and been the stand out player for us all season.

Akinola of Braintree! One of the most tricky pacey strikers we have seen at the mem this season! Was class that day!
