A top ten premier league player is fair enough, a top 3 finish is pushing it, finishing top would make this last 3 months pointless!

He won world player of the year at United, the only Premier League player who has won it. Definitely worthy of a high spot, he probably is the best player that's ever played in the league, but for longevity's sake Shearer or Henry has to win this.

I'll remember him for his bullet headers for England. For such a small player he was a great header of the ball. Goals against Poland and Scotland leading to Euro 2000 and then against Portugal in the first group stage game stand out. Shame he told England to do one 4 years later aged only 29 but Eriksson had enough trouble accomodating Gerrard and Lampard. Scholes would have been too much I suppose. Deserves to finish over the aforementioned two. Will remain one of my all-time favourite players growing up.

Scholes was just absolute class. Technically superb, eye for a goal, really clever when it came to finding a yard.

I also kind of liked the way that despite the fact you could generally rely on him, he would just occasionally fly into a bonkers tackle or randomly handle the ball deliberately...suggested there was a flicker of mad genius in there.

The biggest achievement of Scholes' career was convincing everyone to just laugh it off when he committed one of his veritable collection of fucking horrendous tackles.
