Having seen the highlights, I will admit there was no punch thrown so in hindsight maybe the second yellow was ample punishment. However, I stand by the fact that if the referee had control of the game from minute one then that 'melee' doesn't happen at the end. It was clear a lot of our players were very frustrated by the officials and I would imagine yours were too but just handled it better.
Fair play to Carlisle though - it's not their job to referee themselves and Curle came right out in the buildup and told everyone what he was going to do. He did it and it worked. We deserved to get beat on the day, we move on to Newport tomorrow night who will no doubt record their first win after 4 straight defeats.
Yeah, the referee ran right in there when the first push happened, and then just got surrounded by melee... very bizarre, but the referee we had against Mansfield in our last game was similarly bad.
According to one of the fans on a Tranmere forum I just read, the referee then forgot he had initially given a foul against Tranmere before it all kicked off, and awarded Tranmere a throw-in only for the linesman to remind him he had already indicated for a Carlisle free kick. His arse must have went.
