I've come to the conclusion that by the end of the season 3 things will happen

Reading will win the league.

Derby will go bust when people realise Candy Crush is shit and they can't pay Darren Bent 50k a week to sit on their bench.

Sean Dyche will have a stroke at the thought of Burnley not being able to compete with anyone for transfers.

Michael Hector has signed for Chelsea. Very very bizarre transfer that.

Comes back to Reading on a season long loan.

He looks happy to be joining Chelsea or he is upset at having to go back to Reading.

Club have given Scott Hogan a new contract extension, classy move by the club for a player who by the time he is fit again will have only played 1 game in 2 years. Staff have a lot of faith that he will be a great player once back.

Huddersfield sign Jamie Paterson on loan. Good signing, would have liked us to have gone in for him.

It's nice to have seen us look at the problems then address them.

Butterfield is a creative attacking midfielder, who created more goalscoring opportunities than anyone else at this level last season (or so I read) and Johnson adds a bit of steel, grit and determination. He take the game by the scruff of the neck and we need exactly that.

I think the balance between Thorne, Johnson and Butterfield is potentially spot on. Hughes' injury has forced our hand but we've added the right sort - I think... well, hope.

please can we fucking pull something out the bag and get Bradshaw or somebody up top plz.

If not than i guess we have the loan window, so we can buy a striker then.

Possibly the best transfer window I can remember as a Reading fan, at least based on initial optimism (obviously signings like Doyle etc paid out in the long run but at the time were very uninspiring)

Squad looks almost completely different, improved in most areas, and all with a near break even net spend.

Second most after Pritchard. Interestingly, Butterfield created a significant amount of those chances from deep. I'm not sure whether that says anything about him as a player or Huddersfield's style last season.

He's the one midfielder I'd have wanted above any others in this division.

Yep, one of the best since we signed Luke Chadwick.

Ola John on loan from Benfica now confirmed.11 signings this summer. The Thai owners have certainly backed Clarke in the transfer window.

Nothing comes close to that deal. I remember being pleased with it at the time. Can still remember that world class goal he scored at home to Gillingham.

Blown away by our activity today, didn't think we'd do much never mind smash our record.

We can either plod along with average academy products like Hendrick and Hanson or seriously go for it.. Seems to be the latter.

Money doesn't solve everything as we've seen far too often at this level so we'll see.

Only have space for one more loan.

One permanent signing. Disgraceful really.

Offer over 12 million on a forwards after Kodjia and still don't get a another striker in. This window has been a joke.

A couple of decent defenders in today mind.

Just watched Doyle's goals at Chesterfield, looks like we've got another diving bastard to help Garner out.

i remember we signed Luke Murphy from crewe and Forest signed Paterson from WAlsall and a fair few BANTZ was shared as to who got the best deal as they were both 1m each

well Murphy is still at Leeds and getting better every year and now Paterson is out on loan and can't get in a poor Forest team :D

Chris O'Grady to Forest, season long loan
Solid hard-working player, just a horribly impotent goalscorer in our side. From day one he just didn't look like settling so far down south, couldn't knock his effort though (which can't be said for Leon Best..). Makes sense for us to free up some wages. Was sort of hoping we'd bring in another striker but I think we just about have enough options now with the Feyenoord forward coming in.

Some interesting looking signings elsewhere, Vydra you'd expect to score plenty again, assuming Clarke uses him correctly. Bradley Johnson and Butterfield give Derby an embarrassment of riches in central midfield, even with the injuries. Byrne to Wolves looks like a potentially decent one, loadsa pace. Did the other Swindon lad, Kasim, end up anywhere in the end?

Glad we've come through having kept hold of Dunk, Stephens etc given the reported bids, likewise LuaLua who I thought might attract a late bid given the form he's started the season in.

or teh loans
We'll probably see a Striker come in on loan next week, and that'll be yer' lot. No more room for any other loanees, we've massively fucked up in that we've missed most of the targets we attempted to go for.

But - like you said, two decent loans today, but it doesn't quite cut the mustard for me.

And what about Gary Hooper? Did Fulham get him as rumoured? Suppose there's always the loan window.

Piazon to Reading is another I'll be keeping an eye on, saw him quite a lot for Brazil's youth sides and looked one heck of a prospect but don't think he fared too well out on loan in La Liga. Think he did a bit better at Vitesse. Reckon he might produce similar moments of ridiculous quality as Teixeira did for us last season but likely to be few and far between. This division has a tendency to chew up and spit out that type of player if they're not fully up for it.
