Exactly what I said re: O'Leary mate. This transfer window is fucking stupid, bored of our shit already.

You could have Ruddy for that. Transfer fees are fucking ridiculous, or at least concerning Brentford they are.

So you keep saying.

There are an inordinate amount of clubs willing to chuck daft money around hand over fist nowadays.

Fair fucks to em for exploiting the opportunity.

Brentford have become quite a little powerful money making machine over the past few years. I think it's brilliant tbh.

Would rather just sign Bentley for the extra couple of million ffs.

You liked Weimann at Wolves didn't you? Relatively happy with that one.

Quality signing. He's proved many times before that on his day he is a Premier League player, there is no doubt about that. He is much better in a central role though. Lots of times throughout his career he has been pushed out to the wing because of his pace but has said in interviews he would much rather play down the middle. Imo in counter attacking situations there aren't many better players in the league.

Maybe we’ve just been very good at identifying young players with lots of potential in recent years? Given how many teams are supposedly interested in our players at “high” transfer fees we’re hardly overvaluing them are we?

£2.5m for an 18 year old isn’t unheard of anyway? What’s your beef with Brentford mate? Didn’t see you saying anything about the Brooks transfer fee being too high?

Nothing against Brentford pal I like your club. I just think some of your transfer valuations are a bit unrealistic. Then again on the flipside you do have every right to ask for unrealistic values, who wouldn't want to get the most value for their assets. I see both sides of the coin.

Speaking generally though it cannot last forever. For the record I know my own club are guilty of overspending in recent years. Sooner or later the system will become so out of control that I think we'll see many clubs go bust. You are starting to see it now looking at how many teams are going for the shit or bust approach to reach the PL. Aston Villa are a perfect example of how failure can mean winding up orders and potentially worse. You could argue 15/16 teams are spending the sort of money that gets you promotion but there are only 3 places available. It's not Brentford I'm getting at, it is football in general. It's unsubstainable longterm.

Unfortunately we are hugely reliant on it, incoming transfer fees have made up something like 60-70% of our turnover in recent years.

We’ve just lost one of our most promising youngsters to Man City for £1m and there was nothing we could do to stop it as we’ve got a category 2 academy :sna: Our youth coach who’s been with us for years has said he’s the most promising he’s seen going through Town.

Who was the player?

Carry on milking them all Brentford, opens it up for the rest of us when the money clubs come calling.

Bristol City should hurry up and throw £3m at us for DJ, can't see us agreeing terms with him at all.

I thought the same thing with Brooks going for £12m, just helps us ask for more for our players.

TBH, I really hope we sell as few players as possible. If we bring in replacements for Vibe and Bjelland who both left, and keep everyone else, or at least adequetly replace them, I think we have a team capable of challenging the Top 6, maybe even Top 2.

Doesn't help each year starting with 4-5 new players in the first XI.

Couldn't see Hugill starting much at Wednesday, still have about 8 forwards on their books.

Definitely take Johnson here, and definitely at that price. Looks class every time I see him play.

Talented but prone to going missing, which means a lot of our fans wouldn't care if he left.

Ideally we would keep him as he gives us something different but for £3m, I don't think it would be much of a blow as his goals have dried up a little in the past year. I like him though.

If he's not dropping his wage demands then Bristol City would be a good move for him.

I don’t think we’re interested in DJ, not that I have heard anyway. Not sure where he would fit in tbh

Sam Johnstone to WBA for £5m. That seems more value for money compared to the last goalkeeper mentioned.

Seems a good player but why are we stockpiling wide un's?
O'Dowda (who should be first choice imo), Paterson, Adelukan, Watkins, Eliasson plus Brownhill who spent much of last year wide and Weimann strong rumours? Surely most of these expect to play?

Hopefully you don't sign Weimann as a winger, he is wasted in that position.

Paterson could moving centrally to compete for Reid's old role or the 10 role in a 4231, Eliasson potentially out on loan, Brownhill to play centrally. Weimann to take Reid's role if we stick with 2 up top. So LW - O'Dowda/Eliasson/Pato, RW - Adelukan/Watkins.

From everything I've read I expect him to replace Reid, we need someone to replace his defensive effort and work rate off the ball, Diedhiou if he stays fit should score 20 so then whatever Weimann can contribute will help on top.

One player has 4 years left on their deal, the other has 12 months, not hard to understand why one player may be much better value...

By definition, if a club is willing to meet it, the valuation is not unrealistic.

Bored of hearing people talk about ridiculous/overpriced fees these days. This change in the game happened several seasons ago now and it's not going to stop anytime soon, even if it's an eventual bubble. It's not unrealistic and overpriced, it's just a reflection of the market like in any business sector. Regardless of whether many think it's crazy or not.

Put Brentford and co's demands in context with how much West Brom are asking for players like Rodriguez, Dawson, Rondon, Livermore etc - experienced yes, but relegated in 20th place players who's stocks fell through the floor last season. They're asking 20m a piece. Plus the 40k-50k per week plus wages they'll all be on that any buying club would have to match. Stoke were asking 25m for Joe Allen.

So from the point of view of a club looking for a couple of likely bottom half PL ability players, it means that even in this climate, even with the fees being asked by the likes of Brentford and others, it's still worth looking at the younger, less proven but cheaper in wages lads on their way up. Who also have potential re-sale value in a season or two.

For example 8m or so for Lewis Cook two years ago from Leeds looks laughably cheap now he's in England squads and generally strolling around Premier League midfields every week. Only a matter of time before he moves upwards for significant profit. And then we probably go looking at the Championship again for his replacement.

Whether there will be a deflation at any point, or a collapse, or just a continual inflation, god knows. But we're all just cogs in a wider market acting and reacting in accordance with the rest of the market.

But nobody has met Brentford's valuation, therefore it is perhaps unrealistic? I'm guessing we're talking about Mepham or their youth team goalkeeper here for the record.
