The Archer situation is funny. Sheff Utd paid £18m, got relegated, and Villa have bought him back for £14m. They're looking to instantly sell him again.

I'd be surprised if he gets another Prem move but not sure if anyone down here can afford him, or whether the ones that can need him.

Quality at this level but I didn't expect him to make the step up to the Prem. Sheff Utd effectively paid £4m for a loan, plus full wages, for just 4 goals. Could see him going abroad.

We’ve been linked with him in the past and we do tend to come back in for players years after the initial link. However I think money would be an issue, especially as Villa will no doubt want a decent chunk of change given he’s a youth player and aforementioned accounting rules mean he’d make a counterweight for profit purposes.

Josh Murphy announced overnight signing on a free after leaving Oxford. Looked a standout player in league one in the second half of last season. Happy with that and gives us some much needed pace.

Looked finished at this level for us, certainly didn't seem particularly quick. Maybe he's bounced back but I just think L1 is shit.

Murphy is a funny one: he went 18 months playing League One football without scoring a goal and then hit a very productive purple patch under their new manager at the back end of the season.

He is a technically decent player, so I'm not shitting on him, but Oxford pulled out all the stops to sign him and would've made him their highest paid player (Cam Brannagan is on £15k per week, apparently) so you're looking at something in excess of that and on potentially a four year deal. This is for a player who had the season stopped at the start of February would've struggled to get another League One team, certainly a decent one, which just shows how quickly the narrative on players can change.

We were linked with him but my concern was that why take a player who has shown huge inconsistency throughout his career, away from a system where he has proven to be productive and in a brand new team/set-up could easily go back to the player who was struggling in League One. Oxford were fighting relegation 22/23 and he was still struggling to hold down his position. As SF mentions, he found himself in League One as he had already failed to hold his own at this level.

Now, I do feel that there is potentially a good player in there but this is a very risky signing on a very healthy contract.

Don't disagree. Only time will tell what version we get. Mousinho will know him very well from their time together at Oxford.

I'm hearing wages of around £10k plus add ons, but no idea how accurate that is. I know that our top earner was on £6k a week previously. Given he hasn't cost a fee the saving would contribute towards his wage i guess.

Sounds random, but I’m good friends with someone who’s close to Cam Branagan’s dad who said CB was on £8k per week last season and is their top earner, so would expect Josh Murphy to be on £6-7k pw.

Murphy seems like one of those who’s maybe flattered to deceive at times but had a superb run of form. He was outstanding at Wembley and can’t blame him for taking the better deal.

Kone going for 15 millions plus add ons to Marseille .

Good fee but will we actually use it for recruiting?

Sounds like Moussa Sissoko is coming back .

Thought he was going to be good for us last time but wasn’t really .

We have our first signing through the door in Ben Osborn.

An established Championship player capable of playing multiple positions and suits what Paul Warne wants from his players. Not someone who will win one game in 10, but one that will make himself a presence each and every time. Concerns over his fitness and availability, of course, but hopefully this is just the first of many moves yet to come.

He grew up as a Derby fan so it’s nice that it’s come full circle.

Very conflicting rumours, but I suspect we will sign one of: Mat Ryan, Marek Rodak or Daniel Iversen soon. Rodak is obviously at the Euros until Sunday (hopefully). Ryan is a free agent and Iversen is available, albeit just received a very handsome payrise due to Leicester's promotion. I think the latter is a more complicated deal, Ryan is no doubt going to be the most expensive option so I wouldn't be surprised to see Rodak signed.

Rodak was shown around the training ground the same day as Ben Osborn.

As kind of expected Ryan Giles gone to Hull. Probably made a loss on that one as we signed him for 5m and the fee is rumoured at around 4m.

He’s our record signing but he never really looked at home here and couldn’t usurp Doughty. I was a little surprised at the time we would make a LWB our record signing when we already had Doughty and it proved to be an odd move.

I expect Doughty will be off to the Premier League before the summer is out so we will certainly be looking for a LWB

It looks as though, out of nowhere, we're signing Jerry Yates on loan from Swansea.

A surprising one, not that I've been watching a ton of Swansea games, but he signed for decent money after a really good couple of seasons at Blackpool and finished as their top goalscorer last season - despite heavy rotation and disjointed playing time (specifically towards the back end of the season under their new manager).

Assuming that something has cracked off behind the scenes which has made him available, Warne knows him well from Rotherham. He's scored 55 goals in his past 4 seasons - 3 of them at this level. I'm not expecting the world, but strikes me as a very good value signing.

Osborn, Yates, and Rodak/ Iversen is solid business. Can see Derby being safe mid-table with this calibre of signing.

Felt Luton may have been in for Harrison Burrows (maybe they still are?) but Sheffield Utd appear to be favourites to sign him.

To get £4.25M for Giles is probably better than I could’ve initially hoped. Clearly a good player at this level but I feel we probably need to sign those which have the ability to really grow and step up to the next level.

Still nothing on Gabe Osho. Every day he’s not in for pre-season he starts from behind. Players have to realise that when they stall on contracts.

July 1st is on Monday… would assume now preseason is kind of kicking off, more and more moves will start happening. Managers will start to reassess their squads, moving on players that won’t be featuring. The date is synonymous with the start of the new PSR / accounting period for most clubs (it’s not mandatory to have it as 1 July FWIW).

We’re signing Kayden Jackson from Ipswich. Bizarre one for me, not exactly prolific and technically not quite at it, although a renowned hard worker with physical attributes which has obviously drawn Warne in. We need options as we released so many players but I can’t say I’m overly keen on this one. I would’ve preferred to roll the dice with the same physical attributes but obviously a lot younger (& cheaper).

Ipswich fans like him well enough and we all like grafters so can see him being popular once he gets going, but I had hope for better.. much better.

Kenzo Goudmijn should be signed this week, obviously having not watched a minute of Eredivisie this season it’s hard to predict the standard or what the immediate plans for him.

He’s a Dutch youth international with 30+ games at international level at various age groups. By all accounts, he seems an extremely high ceiling technical footballer based on comments, pedigree, etc.

It sounds like he needs help improving the physical, defensive side of his game which in all honesty probably suits Warne & Co a lot more than trying to bring someone on technically.

As someone who has been crying out for some creativity in the transfer market, even if he turns out to be terrible, I’m just happy we’re looking at this approach and hope we have more signings down this route going forward.

Considering Troy Parrott has stood out in that league, I have reservations about Dutch football right now. The wingback Coventry signed from there last summer is good though, although I don't think he was cheap.

Sounds like things are starting to ramp up a little bit on the Luton side...

(All per Twitter)

1. Luton have also enquired about taking Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien on a season long loan deal.Forest, however, prefer a sale this summer. Norwich City are also interested.
2. Alongside Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, the Hatters have asked Crystal Palace for midfielder David Ozoh on loan in a double deal. Blackburn, Sunderland, Stoke and QPR have all asked for Rak-Sakyi, with Palace keen to find a loan rather than sell the winger.
3. Premier League newboys Ipswich Town hold an interest in Luton Town goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski.
4. Blackburn Rovers will turn to Luton goalkeeper Tim Krul if they fail to sign John Ruddy. The appeal of first team football could persuade the Dutch veteran to join John Eustace’s side.
5. Luton Town reportedly hold interest in Dijon attacker Cyriaque Irie. AC Milan have already had an offer rejected for the 19-year-old by the French club but have agreed personal terms.

All of these seem relatively realistic apart from #5. Lewis O'Brien would be a great signing for anyone in the Championship. Rak-Sakyi has been trailed for some time... clearly a lot of interest throughout the league. For Krul, I'll happily pay his bus fare, because when he's been called upon in every game he's made mistakes. For me, Kaminski will need to cost Ipswich at least £10M.

Would also expect Ross Barkley to join Aston Villa tomorrow - he didn't show up for pre-season training last week.

I think it’s the same with any overseas league: some are more technical than others, but the physicality seems to be the biggest issue.

I’ve always been big on bringing and trusting technically gifted footballers to put it all together, eventually. I’ve never been a fan of taking a player because of his physical attributes, in spite of his short comings technically.

It actually suits Warne more, because I don’t believe he is a coach that can bring players on technically, but I do believe he’s very good at taking technically gifted players and bringing them up tactically and physically to the point they have more impact/purpose in games. McGoldrick, Mendez-Laing, Wilson and Max Bird all showed that.
