Villa are being linked with Barry Town player, Macaulay Southam. Exciting stuff! Are there any Villa fans on here these days?

Ipswich have been linked too apparently.

Mepham to Bournemouth for £15m, add ons taking it to £21m (though some completely unrealistic like Bournemouth qualifying for Champions League), and a big sell-on %age as is usual for us.

Great business, massive shame to lose him as I think he's the player with the most potential I've seen in a Brentford shirt. I'm sure he'll go far, and one day will play for a Top 6 team.

As it is, we'll probably try to get by with Jeanvier and Konsa for the rest of this year (both very good options) and stock up again in the summer.

12m with add-ons to potentially 20m, from what we hear. Which did seem a bit odd I thought because we've had larger bids rejected from yourselves in previous windows, but I'm guessing that's about the structure of the money?

Glad to hear you think he can make it and then some. We desperately need some defensive reinforcement in the immediate term, as well as the longer term. Mepham has for 2 years been targeted by Howe as a Simon Francis successor, and he just happens to have injured himself to the point of probable retirement, so this is very timely.

On the Welsh front Benji might like to see Brooks and Mepham playing together (for however long we can keep hold of Brooks anyway).

He’s not making any money. We still lose money every year (though this year we probably will turn a profit). Everything we make goes back into the club. He’s stopped subsidising our losses to the same extent as he used to, but that’s perfectly reasonable (he doesn’t have endless sums of money), but he must have put £100m in to date since he bought the club (he’s paying for the new stadium completely out of his own pocket).

Don’t forget just how big the revenue gap is between us and the other clubs in this league. Just staying in this league as long as we have is a magnificent achievement, let alone finishing in the Top 10 and challenging for promotion every year (sure, this year at the moment being the exception).

All this transfer strategy does is level the playing field a little (we still only have a bottom 6 budget).

The ambition is very much to get promoted to the PL. Just one season there pays for over 10 years of our current budget. But we won’t do it at a risk to the club’s long term future (we’ve been too close to going bust too many times in the past).

Not every team can go out and buy Ruben Neves.

Makes me laugh when fans of big city clubs with owners who are willing to spend £15m on a single player question Brentford's policy.

Clubs like us, Brentford, Millwall etc have to sell to tread water at this level and just hope one year they can get lucky with injuries, keeping key players/ managers and just generally not getting screwed over so that they can make the top 6 and hopefully take that chance.

If not, rinse and repeat, could get lucky in 1 year, could take 10 years, could never happen.

We've been quite good at tying down players and playing hard ball with clubs but if a Prem team meets the asking price of someone like Pearson, Browne and Robinson then there is no point standing in their way.

Close to signing Aberdeen captain Shinnie on a pre contract according to media in Scotland. Sunderland not met our asking price for Grigg yet.

Hunt for a right back continues, two bids for Callum Johnson rejected and also looking at Rochdale's Joe Rafferty.

Kebano from Fulham on loan potentially according to Doom Howson. Hope so exactly the type of player we've been lacking for 3 seasons.

We need a cb and a winger but we will probably only sign a winger

Was looking at odowda but he's signed an extension so now seem to be stepping up for dan James of Swansea

We was always going to activate the extention, odowda wouldn't of had a choice. If he hasn't signed a new contract by the summer I expect we will sell

Real Madrid's 3rd choice keeper isn't really a statment signing. You also have/had Chelsea's 3rd choice keeper (Jamal Blackman)

A few of their fans on Twitter were speaking about O’Dowda and said “we’ve got players forcing moves from Real Madrid to join Leeds, if we want CoD we’ll get him” as if they signed Modric or something.

Yeah a goalkeeper with actual cl appearances and 43 real Madrid appearances is a joke of a signing for this league

What I meant was I can tell the club has more pull now it's top and bielsa is here , but we can all pretend it's just a normal signing zzzzz

What we should really do is sign over the hill John Terry and be in awe of everyone

yeah he also had 43 appearances for powerhouse REal Madrid

anyway let's move on, we have Bailey-Peacock Farrell in goal even Fraser Forster would be an upgrade, can't wait for him to replace our liability in goal

Been linked with Mo Eisa on a loan deal with a view to a permanent deal in the summer. Any thoughts City fans?

Not exactly done much for you guys, not sure why he’d want to move to us to sit on the bench behind Maupay (though I guess he’d only be behind one striker instead of behind a few with you guys)

L2 strikers finding it very difficult to make the step up at present. Bogle, McNulty and Eisa all massive flops. Be interesting to see if Stockley bucks the trend.

Not heard that but seems a odd one. Hasn't been given a chance yet, and Johnson himself said that sometimes a player could take 6 months to a year to adjust to different tactics..

Our current system only has 1 striker up top, which diedhiou starts in.. but then we have weiman, and Taylor that can play in the striker role too so he is down the pecking order atm.

If true I'm assuming that he hasn't been great in training, and tbat we will atleast recoup what we paid for him.. You could be expecting a few bits for maupay in the summer and planning ahead?

Would be perfect if he’s getting game time. I thought you’d sign him in the summer anyway.

I suspect it’s lazy journalism putting two and two together, but given we did have concrete interest before it’s not totally unlikely. I’d be surprised if you guys moved on so soon though.

If he did come he wouldn’t be a Maupay replacement, he’d be our Vibe replacement (still looking). I’d be very surprised if Maupay left this window, but we’ll almost certainly sell in the summer, and then look to bring in someone for £2-4m. Seems to be the level we’re looking at now for starting XI players.

We’re facing a tough task this summer - got lots of players out of contract who are unlikely to sign on again (Judge already gone, Barbet, Macleod, McEachran all OOC and likely to go), then Maupay, Mepham and Watkins will all have a lot of interest, and a few who will be into their last 12 months who we’ll likely sell to get the most value we can (Bentley, Sawyers, Dalsgaard, Odubajo).

So we could be looking at 10 or so players to be replaced all at once, which isn’t ideal.

Early signs are good, two impressive performances and a goal.

We’ve had good form in that area in the past, but they’re just too expensive these days. I’d imagine our next striker will come from abroad again.
