2 very good performances at Donny and at home to Notts aside, I agree.
Donny I’d agree with, but they were all excellent that day. He scored against Notts but can’t remember him doing much else at all.

Anyway I don’t wanna scapegoat or criticise him too much as I think that calf injury he got against Sheff U in pre season has set him back big time. He missed the start of the season, came back and has been in and out the side, and now I believe he’s gone and done something to it again this time round. Fingers crossed he can get it sorted properly this time.

I don’t know too much about the ownership situation and it might not be much consolation but Swindon seem the right sort of size of club who could go down to the national league for a bit, get themselves sorted out and come back much better and stronger.

It’s happened so many times that there seems to be something in it. When Oldham get back up they’ll be in decent shape as well no doubt. It’s the smaller clubs who struggle to get back if they ever do.
Not with this owner. He's obviously got something about him from a business perspective but comes accross as thick as two short planks. There is NOBODY on the administrative side that has any football experience. The chairman lives in Australia. The CEO has NO experience and comes across on the odd occasion that he's let out to speak as a complete wanker. We have no Director of Football and a limited media dept. We have Holloway who doesn't appear to be up to the job constantly changing personnel and formations mid match. We've only won 2 league games and are going down.

If he gets the January recruitment you will go down I reckon , it's dreadful he no longer has any decent contacts and will try and mesh a load of random players together providing they get through his 'special test ' which is some sort of old school running drill likened to the bleep test which is a pass or fail (sign or don't sign) in our Ians old school management playbook.

Where's that tinpot thread?

This makes El Glosico seem almost bearable, and I want to fucking die every time I hear that.
Not quite the "El Ceramico" is it to be fair :ffs:

Maddens been pony IMO. He’s also currently injured again and will be for the foreseeable apparently.
Weird that, always a pest whenever he faced us for Stockport of late. When he managed to get out of Luke Waterfall's back pocket that is.

Wasn't he the one Scun*ts creamed over (less than Van Veen ) or am I thinking of someone completely different?

Madden's a top player in this league, works his bollocks off, clever link ups and can finish. Yes he's got advancing years but he's a current League Two champion for a reason.

If Paul Cook can't get a tune out of him, that's on the manager.

As I said, don’t think he’s been properly fit all year after doing his calf in pre season, & he’s since done something to it again which is keeping him out. Thats what I’m hoping it is anyway

The guy might be fucking Erling Leo Ronaldo, but he can't play a game of football. I don't think we've had one 90 minutes out of him. It could just be father time catching up with his body after a long career or we could just be unlucky, but he owes us a few when he gets back I'd say.

Well, we had our last away game at Fleetwood postponed after many had already travelled and now looks like we will have Barrow postponed too. Aside from Carlisle, our two furthest trips typically. Probably halve both our attendances there now they will (both probably) be on a Tuesday evening, not that it’s any great shakes (probably 150ish instead of 300ish).

That said though, given our playing style, glad Fleetwood was postponed and kind of hope today is because it won’t suit us.

I really dislike it when it becomes a weather lottery. I know it's the same for both teams but I won't go to a match if it's going to be like that, for both football and comfort reasons.

I think we've just scrapped that through to half time with the wind against us. Neither team has covered themselves in glory. Walsall threatened sporadically but mainly through us giving the ball away. Pretty scrappy as expected.

Paul Cooks plan B has always been 'do plan A better'. It's just how he is and I don't think he's going to change now, old dogs new tricks and all that. Selling Quigley to Forest Green, as basic as he is, definitely hasn't helped with that as now there's no one in the squad who is just an out-ball. With Quigley or similar you can at least go longer over a press and try to feed off seconds, simplify things abit, handy especially away. It's all just been very disjointed all year. The new signings are good players brought in to target our not so great areas, mostly defence, but almost to a man are injured, some badly. Brought in 2 new right backs, both injured. I think we would like to play Madden and Grigg together but it's not really been an option because of Maddens injuries. The keeper situation isn't ideal, we've gone from a bonified #1 to not really knowing who our least bad keeper is, so they kind of rotate, which can't be great for an already mis-match, cobbled together defence. Dunkley being out so long is really awkward, ripples out everywhere. He'd fix a lot of it I think, but even then it's not quite right. So much of it is all very eeeeh, not in place, and with the injuries in key areas not gonna be fixed soon. I think the worrying thing for me performances have really dropped off over the last month or so, last 2 games especially really bad. They had to do nothing to beat us 3-0 last night, nothing, they played it at like a training intensity. I don't think we'll be in a relegation scrap or anything, at least I hope not, but it's just turning out to be a bit of a disappointing first season back.
I think next year we'll be in a better place. Let Cookie have more chance to improve the depth a bit, like you say a lot of them are NL standard.
I think Thompson is looking quite good and improving already.

Funny how things turn out isn’t it. Quigley wouldn’t get a look in with everyone fit so made sense to get some money for him while we could, but we could do with him atm! Hopefully Drummond has improved while out on loan - he did well yesterday

That feels bit harsh but I thought he’d have scored more tbf. With him being injured again feels like a waste of a signing atm

A player coming with the reputation he has I expected far more from him than what I’ve seen, so he’s probably judged more harshly than others might be. He won’t be on a pittance either so for me when he gets back fit, he really needs to step it up & contribute because from what I’ve seen he’s nowhere near our best starting XI as it stands.

Will say it again though, fully appreciate he had a bad injury in pre season with his calf and I do wonder if he ever recovered from that properly before doing it again. Needs sorting properly this time.

Totally agree that the high wages he’s undoubtedly on add to the all round disappointment so far. Not heard anything about latest injury. Hopefully not too serious but Webb said something odd that might suggest someone’s out for a long period. Could be a few people but Madden sprang to mind
