Free hit tonight at Sunderland, there's little chance of anything from there with our available defence and their attacking form over the last few games. We've recalled transfer listed Max Melbourne from his loan spell at Stevenage to get another defender in short term.

We're without Walsh, Jackson, Montsma, Bridcutt and Hopper, who are all starters when fit but also the remaining ones from last season once the likes of Grant, Rogers, Johnson, Palmer, Grant left!

None of those will be back for Cambridge either.

On the plus side, having Scully back and getting Whittaker in has meant we've got a couple of players who can score goals, give us an out ball into space but also give the opposition something to think about and that's not something we've had for most of this season.

I can't believe you are where you are after you battered us 5-1 earlier in the season.

Ah, the Anthony Scully show.

That was the first time this season, and one of the few full stop, that our performance was half decent. Performances generally have actually picked up in the last handful of games even if the results haven't necessarily matched them.

Just looked and Hopper, Bridcutt and Scully were available for that game as well. A weird game where we had players in their actual positions!

An important week for us. Win both games and we can both push into the play offs and create a bit of a gap between 7th and 8th. Can we win both with a non league quality goalkeeper though? Probably not.

No midweek game for us after Fleetwood refused to play despite having over the number of players required.

EFL said it was fine too. Will be interesting to see how they now respond if enough pressure is put on them because if you don't play despite not meeting the criteria then surely it is failure to fulfill a game and a 3 point deduction.

Certainly something I imagine the chairman of the bottom 4 will all be strongly pursuing with the EFL.

I don't think it's news that Ian Evatt is a cock.

But he's a cock nonetheless.

Here's the matchday preview.

Now, in fairness everyone comes out with the begrudging, "they're good at what they do" kind of comments.

But the one that I particularly loved was him claiming that the purist champagne footbalistas of Bolton won a "moral victory" when they lost at Adams Park earlier this season. Jesus wept.

As Dippy says, playing AFC with a goalkeeper that has never played in an EFL league match and a kid (a real kid) on the bench as back up doesn't fill me with any confidence whatsoever. I think it's going to be a case of outscoring the opposition rather than trying to defend.

How we ever got in this situation is utterly utterly baffleing. :hb:

Hopefully we’ll all be laughing on Saturday as we beat Portsmouth with a debut clean sheet from a really good signing, but that doesn’t help in the slightest for tonight.

Not holding out much hope for tonight. No scully and only been able to name 4 subs (1 keeper, 2 left backs and a midfielder). Hopefully Scully back saturday as we hold out more hope for 3 points then!

Don’t think we’ve looked too bad tbh. Probably our best performance in a few months but typical that we don’t take our chances and concede a soft goal. Been the story of our season. Poor defending and Dixon should have save their goal really. He made a great save earlier on but we definitely need a new gk.

This game has summed up our season perfectly. Can’t defend long balls, concede soft goals due to individual mistakes, don’t take our chances but look half decent up until we get to opposition box. Declan John has been shite this season other than first few weeks. Our xg creation this season has been pretty good and thankfully theres plenty of teams worse than us so I’m not too worried about relegation despite being only 3 points ahead of it.

What a difference a couple of unexpected wins make! Could not see us scoring 1 tonight, let alone 3. Maguire will be lucky to leave Sunderland alive after the hatrick!

Barmy innit - go to Sunderland with a squad of 15, no CB's, full backs playing CB, 6 first teamers out, players in from out in the cold, no captain, no top scorer...and, er, win?!

Hat-trick hero Chris Maguire being a proper shithouse tonight with his celebration in front of Lee Johnson who, I'm guessing, he doesn't have too much time for!

A good few days for us with six points from Oxford and Sunderland. Four games in a row that we've scored two or more now and we're starting to look as though we're becoming a bit of a unit now. Still a long way to go, mind, but the last 5 or 6 performances have been generally ok a decent improvement from a couple of months ago. Still not keeping clean sheets.

That was a cracking tackle.

A comfortable game, they only threatened in the last 5 minutes as you’d expect any team to do a goal down with a few minutes left. Very proud of our keeper on his league debut given all that’s gone on, made one or two good stops.

yep, couldn't believe the "defending" for the first, I was just open-mouthed to see how much you were standing off Hanlan.

There's definitely plenty of quality in your squad, but getting it to hang together as a team is something else. You should be fine, but it's also whether teams have got the stomach to grind out results or not.

Of course you should.

Ravizolli did OK but I don't trust him enough not to get a better keeper in and have him for backup. Corbeanu did ok for a first run out as well. Our usual failings though, not clinical enough considering how dominant we wrer.

On another note, Sunderland nearly flooded the pitch with their sprinkler system before the game for some reason.

Our pitch has been noticeably deteriorating for a while now. One of many lacklustre things going on behind the scenes. When the new owner joined there was talks of a £500,000 pitch improvement - which I hope this isn't it.

In similar news I reckon if you asked Chris Maguire before the game to write the perfect script he'd have come out with something like what happened; score a hattrick against the manager that turfed you out and he also gets sent off. It was one of those games where we started terribly and after the goal and celebration you thought 'if that doesn't wake the players up, nothing will' turns out nothing will.

At least we've won the Integrity of the Competition Cup. Can add that to the many pretend competitions we have won since being down here - Pizza Cup and Trafalgar Square Shield (x2)

What is Bolton's actual record since Evatt said they were the best team in the league?

It seems it's just been dreadful from pretty much that exact point.

Won about 1 in 14.....Sarcevic walked/pushed soon after Injuries to key men Sheehan/Jones/Isgrove /williams added to injuries and Covid decimated us. We are shite/lost at present and i expect us to limp until the end of the season but we will have some squad next season thats for sure

Think my Bolton supporting mate is fed up of Evatt, says he rolls out the same shit in every post-match conference. Doesn't seem like he's under much pressure though, so probably just getting the benefit of the doubt because of injuries and transition.

Yes the is certainly one or two disgruntled fans. He has his faults you hit on one his stuborness. Example Goalkeepers he is about to repeat last seasons error in bringing in young keepers on loan. We need a old head to guide us through the rest of the season. Got the backing of the board and certainly most fans who can see what he is trying to build.
