In all seriousness, we're operating in different financial realities, so you are able to bring in someone who has spent most of the last decade at the top end of the Championship. Mickey is 33 and I think he has played 1 game above League Two in his entire career. The point is, I could never have imagined how good he's turned out to be based on his career up to now. It's amazing to me that he's spent his whole career in non league and League Two.

And that’s cool, and i’m glad this bloke is doing well for you - i’m only interested in mansfield and our defence - though i must admit it was highly disappointing to concede 2 on tuesday, hopefully clough had them in yesterday for extra training.

I’ve not seen us have a better in my time at mansfield
Yikes, that does tell you just how rough you've had it as Stags fans over the years really that the best CB you've seen has been a L2 player. Flint a great player for this level mind. Not sure about best L2/fourth tier defender of all time though, that's a big question and I suspect there are plenty that have played down here and gone all the way up to the Prem.
Town fans:
You
Will
Not
Go
Down

I never thought I would ever say this, but win on Saturday will you.
You might have to explain this one to us pal. Are you saying if we win on Saturday we'll go down?

Well my point being is he’s not really league 2 level, he’s more top end league 1.

If we were to go up (clearly would need to strengthen) but the defence/gk wouldn’t be my worry.

I think he wants you to beat us so we go down as he’s utterly obsessed with us but will argue we aren’t a rival

To be fair Flint is an upper end L1 player still, so he’s gunna be up there for us.

Upper end L1 quality players like Flint look soooo good and almost out of place at L2 level that it really does drive home now big the step up is between top half of each division.

I think you're in for a bit of a surprise if you do go up. You haven't been in the third tier in over 20 years so realistically you have no idea what the level is.

That said, next seasons League One looks set to be one of the weakest in years, with nearly all of the big clubs who were there 5 years ago having finally got promoted, or look in a good position to do so this year. The three that come down from the Championship will probably make up 3 of the top 6 unless there's a financial circus amongst them, but outside that there's definitely room to surprise a few people.

Nonsense, I’m expecting it to be extremely difficult for us because of the step up, IF we go up. Not everyone can do brilliant like Stevenage or decent like Northampton, but Flint was doing the business for a team that got promoted in L1 last season.

Actually been to a handful of L1 games this season at Burton and watched a few on the telly too, not to mention the fact we played and beat Peterborough then lost to a impressive (currently in relegation spot) Port Vale, they did lose those loanees that made them so impressive mind.

Suggesting Flint is an upper L1 player is not good enough argument for you to make that assumption, you are right in one thing Mansfield not been in L1 for a long time!

I don’t think any Mansfield fans are even entertaining L1 yet. We are just trying to enjoy the moment and hope we get over the line, but if we do I think we will be very wary of the obvious step up.

Anyone who goes up a league and thinks they’ll be fine/it’ll be easy in general is already in the wrong mindset. The only side who could realistically have a go next season if they gain promotion is wrexham due to their money, there’s some absolute beasts of clubs up there and i think the money from the PL affecting the competitiveness of the championship has also resulted in an overflow into league 1 - the size of some there are just huge.

we’ve seen FG last season and carlisle this massively struggle, but on the flip side if sides like lincoln and cambridge hold their own in league 1 there’s also no reasons why whoever goes up from league 2 can’t also.

Think Mansfield had one season in division 2 (championship) in the 80s

Wrong. 70s haha.

Scunthorpe were in the championship 10 years ago, doesn’t do them much good now.

Quick check and it was in fact1977/78. Maybe Spanishstag can tell Adam and co all about that one season in tier 2.

The only ones who don't bring up history up tend to those who have never been something, but now currently having a great season in tier 4, you boys fit that bill nicely. :ohy:

Adam is right it's (much) better to have something in the past than not.

At least we didn’t get hammered by a shit team, I mean Donny got a late undeserved equaliser at bottom of table Sutton so they must be good right?
Undeserved? Not sure given there were 2 clear pens not given well before the one we scored. But yeah we are shit

I thought somebody on here at the time said it was undeserved but i could easily have got that mixed up as I’m getting ridiculously forgetful as I’m getting older to be honest, I had a great memory when I was younger but it’s terrible at the minute.

We were largely the better side and I’d say Doncaster didn’t really deserve anything. But then we did indeed give away a ridiculous penalty (though definitely seen them not given) and could have been another one - that’s just us for you. I thought Doncaster were dreadful and probably the worst we’ve seen this season if we were to judge on single showings. We’ve probably given them a nice leg up off the back of that.

I reckon we might’ve given then a nice little boost recently too.
