I thought the tackle on him was a yellow, a bit similar to the Gibbs-White tackle against Brighton, you can get the ball and still get penalised - but it wasn’t anything more than that or a ‘shocker’ by any means. I think the frustration is more the accumulation, he’s been targeted no question and very rarely when he gets passed people do they just trip or grab him, there’s players that choose to just scythe him down (‘if I’m getting a yellow I might as well make the most of it’) and law of probability is that one of those is going to end badly at some point.

Not quite sure what I expect refs to do other than continue giving bookings - I guess if it’s really deliberate with no attempt to play the ball maybe it should be a red (like the one on him against Fleetwood near the dugout for example).
I still think back to that scything challenge he suffered against Barrow last season. A truly horrendous one that should have been a red all day long but under the current rules is somewhat ambiguous.

In my football laws no attempt to play the ball should always be a red, completely sick of these tactical fouls and ‘taking one for the team’.

Colchester at home, a truly horrific trip on a Tuesday night and we have to do the return in January on a Tuesday!

Wary of them as they do score goals but seem very fragile at the back so may need to be more clinical than yesterday, we did get to rest some players yesterday so have the option to bring in Paton, Chislett, Croasdale or BBB if we want to keep it fresh and expect a few changes in this one.

With Notts Co and MK away to follow we could really do with another win here to go into two of the harder trips we are likely to face this season and really set Saturday up as a big humdinger.

That said it’s probably time to point out we haven’t won a Tuesday night league fixture in 2 and a half years! Stretching well over 20 games now since our last Tuesday night league two fixture when we beat Salford away in April 2022 so another hoodoo we need to exercise ideally! Madness when you consider the relatively decent cup form on a Tuesday in that time in the Pizza and making the Carabao QF last season!

Morecambe are by no means classy and if Jordan Slew is getting minutes you're short of decent players but Adams has them working really hard. They pressed us for the whole ninety yesterday and we were fortunate to get the point.
The table says they're crap but they looked a whole lot better than Accrington or Grimsby when we played them.

We struggle against teams in poor form and against teams who press well. Chuck in Adams being our ex-manager, Morecambe having players who were poor for us, and you've got a recipe for disaster. Can't bloody wait.

Bromley away, a fixture I hoped never to see again tbh. We’re more than capable of getting something but wouldn’t be shocked at all if we lost 1-0 to a Michael Cheek injury time goal :D

Lots of positives from Sat to take forward. Madden looks good up front plus Mandy played full 90.

Least that awful plastic pitch is gone!

Grimsby at home on a Tuesday night is the very definition of a game to slip up on. Last few weeks have seen us play several sides at the top of the table and we've done well, but this is likely to be another challenge entirely. Grimsby not in bad form at all but seem to be a bit all or nothing with their results, so a draw is probably unlikely. In the last 6 table a few posts up they've beaten 3 sides in the bottom half and lost to 3 sides in the top half so that bodes pretty well. Fingers crossed we keep up the momentum of the past few weeks and can put in a good, winning performance.

Squad is looking really quite good at the moment with players returning from injury all the time and nothing (touch wood) new for the physio to deal with from the last couple of games. It's very hard not to be confident with the start we've made and the defensive record, but I genuinely think this one will be trickier than a lot imagine.

Gills 2-1 Grimsby
As my fellow Mariner says, we have several 1st choice players out injured plus, in some positions, their backup too.
Having said that we will get the ball down and try and play.
Not really sure why, other than I am a little crazy, but I will be making the journey down on a Tuesday night. It is about 210 miles each way. Maybe a bit more than crazy!
2-0

Would expect Moore to make some changes for this. Does seem whatever way we line up will be somewhat influenced by the opposition but assuming it was two up top then Hackford likely to drop out for Paton. Would also be looking at managing the workload of Stockley with one eye on a really difficult away game at Notts on Saturday. Don’t think we’ve ever beaten a team managed by the Cowleys so be nice to change that. Obviously they will have a point to prove after a heavy defeat to Walsall,

Bonus game for us really , 5 /6 best players injured with no keeper (assuming we will change that with an emergency keeper ) .

Don't expect much against a strong Gills side but we will come and have a go + keep the ball on the floor so might be a decent watch

aye not expecting anything from this, especially with out injuries, which is why beating Carlisle was so important. If we get a point its a bonus.

Beat Lincoln 1-0 under Aspin when Cowley was there.

Kind of hoping we might kick on now after yesterday, and with that in mind should be looking to beat Bromley. I do fancy us to, that was the best performance on the season yesterday. Quick turn around probably no bad thing either.

In typical Vale fashion, after 10 points from 12, I could see us tripping up here. It must be a while since we won 3 home games on the spin.

I think we'll probably bring in Paton or Curtis for Hackford and maybe bring Chislett back in. That's more goal threat straight away.

Things are starting to click but we have a habit of kicking ourselves in the knackers, just when things start to look up. Colchester have been historically strong at this level for a few years, yet have struggled in recent times. They always seem to employ pace and strength up front but struggle to keep goals out.

We could do with 3 points here, with 2 tricky away trips to come.

The league's best player has spoken about his latest injury setback.

Naturally wish him the very best in his recovery. There will be plenty of fullbacks celebrating at the lengthy absence of the wing wizard.

This is obviously a huge blow for Notts, one that could potentially derail a very solid start to the season when combined with the busy treatment room. Hopefully we are still in the mix when JJ returns to a heroes welcome.

Black and white picture. RIP. Condolences to his family.

Bloody hell I thought he was out for a couple of months, not had to undergo an entire lower leg amputation.

Bit OTT.

Some opinion of himself hasn’t he. You’re in league 2 fella, humble yourself… every winger with a bit of pace / skill gets targeted and smashed, always been same, is what it is.

Never nice seeing someone pick up a bad injury though, especially someone who’s suffered so badly with them. Good luck to him with the recovery.

Stockley has to play, you’d expect a Cowley side to be physical so will need him, should really need to rest key players really as it’s the only midweek in about six weeks so not really a massive run of games.

True but now imagine how much targeting there is when a winger with some pace, lots of skill and that oh so rare commodity end product. That might not be easy but trust me it's on another level.

He's quality he should have a high opinion of himself. The fans who watch him week in week out certainly do.

We did it last season in that good period we had in August /September before we fell apart
