An excellent idea. In my esteemed opinion, the SPL is on a par with the National League anyway. If Celtic and Rangers are serious about joining the English league, this is where they should be placed. :bdick:

Wrexham being backed into around 4/6 to win tomorrow against a side second in the Scottish Championship.

Worth opposing given the lack of interest by Wrexham and their questionable start to the season?
There was a Hearts fan on twitter who was at the Chesterfield v Shaymen match on Tuesday- he said the quality of football and technique were better than he'd seen in his last SPL game. :bdick:

The Scottish Championship is roughly National League standard and I’d imagine Ayr are taking this match more seriously, so I’d say yes.

Ayr have 9 players out through injury/international call ups.

We should be 3 up, how are Solihull losing with a full strength side out?

If we didn't have to postpone league games for this I'd be all for it. Ludicrous Cup.

Whilst accepting that Ayr had made 5 changes from their previous game. The fact they sit 2nd in the table and we beat them with a team of fringe players and children (10 changes for us) playing an unfamiliar formation is a pretty damming indictment of the Scottish Championship

The best measure of how bad the Scottish Championship is, is that Jordan White is Inverness' top striker.

Seems the next round is weekend of October 12th https://spfl.co.uk/league/challenge-cup/format

Wrexham v Chesterfield is the 5:20pm BT sport game that day so not sure which game takes priority.
Really? Nothing about that on our useless site form our useless club. I know some lads who have organised a coach for this for a birthday which is stopping the night in Chester. They'll be mighty pleased they don't have to go watch us lose before going on a night out

We have been drawn at home to St Mirren reserves, and Solihull potentially have a home tie against Ballymena or Rangers reserves

hopefully sense prevails, we can fulfill the Chesterfield game on the Saturday and then play the second game on the Sunday with a heavily rotated squad, if we can even shift it to a mid week that would be great

Arbroath v Clyde
Airdrieonians v Elgin City
Raith Rovers v Glenavon
Partick Thistle v Connah's Quay Nomads
Wrexham v St Mirren Colts
Stenhousemuir v Waterford
Solihull Moors v Ballymena United or Rangers Colts
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Alloa Athletic

Unlucky. The Colts teams have usually been knocked out by now.

We should just do a double header. Back to back games. Carnival atmosphere with our fans mixing with Chesterfield and St Mirren uniting in our shared love of football. Tunnocks teacakes all around.

It'd sum up Scottish football perfectly if a team outside of their league system wins their version of the Johnstone's Paint.

can't the premier league U21's theoretically win that comp?

Connahs Quay were 10 minutes away from winning it last season!

Wrexham's win over Ayr says absolutely zilch about the level of Scottish footy IMO. Ayr's main aim this year is to make the play offs again, and they know it will be harder this time round, and the same can be said for Wrexham. The latter lined up with their kids, while apparently Ayr wanted to make more than the five changes but they just couldn't due to injuries etc. IOW, the two managers saw this game as little more than a friendly*.

Solihull, a side more or less on a par with Wrexham, could only draw at Scottish non league side Kelty Hearts. Would this mean that the Lowland League is on a par with the National League? I don't think so.

*although to be fair, I was a bit surprised that Ayr did take a good number of fans to the Racecourse.

I'm not quite sure I follow your logic. Whilst Ayr may have wanted to play a weaker team the fact is that half the starting XI played in their win over Partick Thistle. There is a regular movement of players between the Scottish leagues and National league and you can probably draw parallels between the Scottish Championship and the national league in terms of quality. Many good players in the National league end up in the SPL.

In general I agree and I don't think that you really can draw many conclusions from this competition as everyone is taking it quite lightly, but not entirely sure what the point you were making was.

My point is only that Ayr wanting to play a weaker side speaks volumes about their approach to this cup. As does the fact that Wrexham's starting line up was more or less their youth side. With that in mind, I can't see how anybody - and I'm not referring specifically to you Red - can state that the level of footy in the NL is better or worse than that of the Scottish Championship.

Now about the fact that Ayr had 6 regular first teamers in their starting eleven. I can't speak for Ayr but I will say that I used to go watch the U's in the tinpot cups like the LDV or the Trophy, and it was pretty obvious to just about anybody in the ground that, on many an occasion, the better players in the side were not giving it their all like they did in the league games. The number of first team regulars in the starting line up (whether it was only 3 or as many as 8) didn't seem to matter. For me this implied that they cba for a cup game in a not so popular cup competition. That's when I stopped going to such matches.

Oh I agree with you. You have to wonder what the point of this sort of competition is really.

I’m curious to know what the criteria is for entry into this sack of shit.
So did Wrexham and Solihull actually apply to go into it or are you just forced into it due to league positions last season?
