All the makings of another we are scared of the opposition approach from Vale.
Go for 0-0 and when we find ourselves a goal down we suddenly come out of our shells and look respectable.
Hoping he doesn't recall Smith and go 5 at the back. Simply doesn't work.
The new ground factor has gone so can only see 350 maybe travelling for a customary 2-0 defeat.

Got a feeling we will get a good result here for some reason.... which means we probably wont!

We have to approach it as we do at home and play a positive game, take it to them as we look so much better that way. Have some balls Aspin!

Hopefully Manny is back although in fairness the Blackburn loanee was decent Saturday. Dodds out for Miller, possibly Worrall out for Whitfield and Manny if fit for Hardcastle.

Also Montano is injured. But isn't this the root of our problems, 3 or 4 changes pretty much every game.
I think despite losing Doidge FGR will have a mid table season and this is a difficult game.
We always seem rubbish on tinier grounds, Burton, Accrington and Rochdale are 3 that spring to mind.

Doesn't suit our free flowing attacking football :shut:

Never used to support our wingers... this season we dont have any so maybe wont be an issue.

Monty being out isn't a problem IF Gibbo comes in now we have Clarke I guess.

We have looked surprisingly good and some of our draws really should have been wins. Maybe not making enough chances with the possession but slowly getting more solid at the back and several players showing they will score if we do actually make the opening.
If we do manage to win this will really start to feel optimistic about the season, squad solid enough despite Chrisitan going and a couple of the latest in looked really promising, McGinley and a loanee from Bournemouth. From what little i saw of the other new lad, striker from Ipswich, on the highlights of the Checkafraud game he might well have something to offer to but expect from the bench if at all.

I think this is our toughest match of the season so far, apart from the Colchester away game.

FGR coming off the back of a deserved win at Notts, they created loads more than Swindon and can feel unlucky to only come away with a point (Swindon goal was a pen), had much the better of the game against Stevenage but missed chances, were a late equalizer away from a win at Bury, another penalty against them at home to Oldham cost them victory, and of course the demolition of Grimsby on the opening day.

This is a good FGR side, with or without Doidge and they'll be bang at it trying to get that first home win on the board given they should've already done so, and they have an ideal opportunity against a Vale side who've got exactly what they've deserved this season away from home - nothing. Bookies have FGR at 4/5 and that's about right for me. Big favourites.

The issue for me is the quality is there to get results and this is a massive frustration, changing formations and personnel every game, negative approaches... we are still doing things we should of ironed out in pre-season in trying to find the right formation and players within that.

Will be a tough test this and another defeat will see the pressure turn up on Aspin further. We played very well in most parts last week but lost so have to have that level again this week and surely fortunes will turn.

Yep, my frustration too.

Genuinely think there's a top 7 side hidden in this squad but Aspin has no idea how to get it all to fit together. The only match I've seen live this season was Cambridge, and I came away thinking we were going to have a great season. That performance was in many ways a bad thing because it only emphasizes how far below our actual level we've been playing at since that game.

As a Rovers fan I never take anything for granted, ever, especially a game where current form and relative league positions point towards a particular outcome. A couple of seasons ago we faced North Ferriby at home at the end of the season, they had been totally out of their depth all season and had been relegated weeks before, we were a pretty decent side at the time and heading for the play-offs...we were dreadful and lost 1-0.

After three home draws it would be great to get a win, to keep the unbeaten run going, at six games it is currently our best in the Football League. Vale will face a team that has largely been assembled during the summer and is growing in confidence as they get used to playing together. The football we played in the first half against Oldham was as good as I have seen any Rovers side play, if we can reach that level tomorrow our opponents will need to work hard to take points home with them. However, this is of course football...

How’s Miller started? Is he still shite?*

*Out of his depth

He was quality on the opening day but had virtually no service since then, hes good enough but his decision making... i.e. taking a shot on when he could lay a team mate on for a better chance is the main criticism I have with him.

Is the pressure of delivering at home going to continue today? Last weeks away win at Notts County was very positive for the team after a string of draws, but some might say there would never be a better time to play them. So still not sure about today. My money would very marginally be on a home win, but I’ve left the stadium disappointed too many times to see that as a good bet. Expectations after mauling Cheltenham on Tuesday will be through the roof, but that was a game for fun only. 1-0 or 0-0 then, the draw at 2/1 the best value I think, but don’t put any money on this one.

Shows how far this club has fallen over the last 20 years or so when we are away at Forest Green Rovers, in a league game and we are not even the favourites to win. Unbelievable.

Can’t see us getting anything. I have no doubt Aspin will set up to play for a 0-0 and we will be comfortably beaten.

Almost posted this thread earlier in the week to have a (Little Club on the) Hill versus Vale title but my OP would have been twaddle so left it to my betters.
No injuries or suspensions again for us; expect Reid back up front after being rested for the Checkafraud match.

To be as much as 3/1 was unthinkable. That’s the damage done to this club over the last 30 months and rightly leaving us very worried for the future of it.

Anyway 4–4-1-1 Conlon debuts, Whitfield behind Pope and the best news of the lot in that Manny Oyeleke is finally fit!

A bit negative but Whitfield’s pace gives us something.

Jesus Christ. What another bizarre starting 11.

Hannant at left back? Why would you do that when you could play Clark there and put Gibbons at right back instead? He obsession with playing central midfielders out wide continues, as well.

Totally clueless.

Legge out is a massive blow, hopefully their strikers are not tall!

It’s an odd one! Play Gibbo! Or even Vassell!

Could this be the end of Aspin if we got spanked today?

Suggestion it could be a 3-5-2 with Hannant wide?

Or even Oyeleke at Right back and Hannant then further forward! Could Worrall be behind Pope and then Whitfield wide?

Shouldn’t be this hard to figure our team but on the plus side FGR won’t have a clue either how this is set up until we KO!

We only have Reid upfront!
Equally puzzled.

Totally absurd.

Aspin clearly doesn’t like Gibbons, it’s obvious they’ve fell out.

I don’t understand the constant need to change the formation and starting 11.

Think Cooper expects Winchester to push further forward to be almost a partner and have a go himself.
ETA You'd have thought Grubb had earned a start but I actually think we have a plan this season so giving Cooper benefit of the doubt

So comfortable and concede from a set piece. Woeful Vale could of been two ahead as well

We're having the lion's share of possession but Vale more shots and clear chances bar the error, sort of undermines the plan.

Forest Greens fan base is basically made up of middle aged men and women wearing Berghaus coats and walking boots along with their kids who are also in he same attire. It really is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before at a league club.

We are shit here and we will end up losing this 3-0.

Just 4 teams below us right now, and one of them is Nott's County who will surely improve sooner or later. We have a decent team, but I no longer see Aspin as capable of fashioning a winning side from them.

Something has to change.
