How frustrating for Mourinho to miss out on the PT title again. But that's life, you win some, you lose some. It needs to be mentioned though that Guardiola's squad is way better than Mourinho's team.

only 3 of fergo's 13 title winning teams had more points at this stage of the season. mourinho is doing a good job and they'd usually be on course but city are just doing ridiculous things so far this season.

This is true, their points average would result in 87 points which will win you the title more often than not. However, you do get the feeling that they're hanging in there in regards to title winning form rather than having another gear in them. They're not blowing teams away by any means and when they did, it often came late when the opposition had to go forward and play into United's hands.

Were I a betting man, I'd have them closer to 80 than 90 at the end of the season.

that was often the case with fergie teams tbf. not destroying teams regularly, consistently grinding out points and staying in the race before going on mad runs of form as well as regularly killing teams off/nicking results late in games.

i picked them for the title before a ball was kicked and i reckon they're still capable, providing city drop off a bit which they surely will at some point. still a lot of football to be played yet but obviously city are huge favourites right now. just thought it was a worth pointing out how well they're actually doing given the criticism they seem to be receiving from certain quarters.

Killing off teams late in matches...... just like City have done twice in four days. The winner against Southampton came in the 96th minute.

I'm just waiting for some United fan to complain about how much time City are getting added on to the end of their matches. Oh, what sweet irony that would be. And what a brass neck it would take for United fans to say it.

But hey.... there's no law against getting late winners. If anything, it's a sign that they've got a determined attitude and are playing to the max, while the opposition may be losing focus by having one eye on the clock on the big screen and praying for the ref to blow for time instead of watching Stirling nipping in behind the defence.

How many points have been won by Raheem Stirling's late goals this season..? And what if those points make all the difference come May...?

I agree it's not all over by any means. Yeah, City look favourite now, but United will hang in there.... hang in there..... hang in there......

It depends on one's definition of hang in there I guess. For me, City will win the title with a bigger gap between them and 2nd that what there is currently. I also believe that, come May, Chelsea will be closer to City than United.

I agree. At the end of the day, Chelsea simply has a better squad than Manchester United.

At this moment in time I'd say no. Maybe Pags was inferring that Chelsea will make a couple of signings in January as their squad looks below-par all said and done.

No, Pags was just being hopeful and allowing his wishes to cloud his judgment.

Nah. Chelsea playing the better and more convincing football for me, and have already beaten United this season. Guess we will have to see who is right. Plus, unless the Arsenal result and performance represents a change of tact for Mourinho which he intends to continue, I'd say Chelsea are more likely to pick up points away from home against the better sides.

It will be close regardless but neither team will catch City so are simply fighting for second best.

Seeing as you mention the Chelsea victory over United - do you remember how open and attacking that game at Stamford Bridge was? Away, to the champions?

I remember Chelsea having 8 shots on target in comparison to United's 2.

Yes. But it was United away in a big league game. It was so instantly forgettable I can't really remember it.

I think it might have been the latter. In order to deal with the knowledge of certain upcoming boredom. It was United away in a big game, you know?

A quick comparison of December's results give some indication why I predicted above that Chelsea would finish above United. Chelsea are above them after yet another United draw, and I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed that way right through to the end of the season.

And Mourinho reckons Lukaku will be out for a couple of games at least and Zlatan is out until February.

Should let Rashface and Martial loose then. They're good enough.

Simple as that. The squad is too complete and Jose produces victory after victory. The excitement will have to come from the race from 2nd-4th as United will top the table for the rest of the season I feel.
I disagree, Manchester United will finish at best 2nd. I feel your evaluation is too naive and short sighted :lac:
