Hughes said after Saturday's game "maybe we've plateaued", which is, er, not an encouraging appraisal from a manager. Never really rated him, he was average at City and terrible at QPR, and think his time is up at Stoke. They've spent decent money and are still playing Glenn Whelan and Mame Diouf.

Koeman wasn't doing well before he was sacked. Unsworth ended up being far worse. Sacking a manager doesn't suddenly make the grass greener. It might work, it might not.

The press seem to think he is what he isn't. A local journalist checked the figures and revealed that game for game Mark Hughes has ONE POINT more than Joe Kinnear. That says it all yet the London and Manchester rags think he's a good manager - like they do for Alan Pardew
