What a man! I hope he can afford enough food to keep his strength up for the job.

Hmm, might need to retract my Trump =/= Hitler sentiments in a few weeks if he continues to appoint racists and anti-semites to his cabinet. Maybe he wasn't just saying those things to get into power. :err:

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
Quite ironic that you bemoan UKIP getting 4 million votes and nothing in return, yet delight in Trump getting elected president despite Clinton getting more votes Jonny T.

FWIW, I think the Trump/Hitler comparisons are off the money.

Not because Hitler was uniquely evil, or Nazism a historical anomaly - I think, more, because of the precise opposite of that. The Holocaust was, more than anything else, a culmination and horrifying pinnacle of a project of mass-extermination, slavery and property-seizures in the name of white supremacy that began in the colonies, and in which most European powers were enthusiastic participants.

Is it that surprising that the children of the Herero and Namaqua's genocidaires built and ran extermination camps in Poland?

I know people are turning "being wrong about Trump" into a competitive sport (something I claim some proficiency in) but Trump won't be "as bad as Hitler" because he doesn't inhabit the historical moment that Hitler did.

Equally, it's a mistake to view fascism as bad because it leads to death camps (or even that it's bad because it may lead to death camps). Fascism is bad because of its promotion and normalisation of racist state and non-state violence, its violent misogyny, its violent suppression of the organised left, it's militarism. We should fear Trump being something more like Pepe Lobo in Honduras - that is, a murderous tyrant who presides over large numbers of murders of left-wing, indigenous, anti-racist, feminist and LGBT activists, while rolling back social reforms - yet a tyrant who is democratically elected, and to a certain extent is constitutionally bound (though not enough to stop them doing all sorts of horrendous shit).

Of course, Lobo, and dozens of other Latin American tyrants, were backed by the American government (and more importantly given its continuity, the deep state - the CIA and the military), so we can sort of expect that, just as in the 1930s, the techniques used to pacify the periphery for most of the last century to make their way to the metropole - which I guess is the comparison I would draw with Hitler.

There is absolutely no foundation to assert Trump as a murderous tyrant or that he's going to venture even remotely close. Florid writing expressing knowledge of history doesn't entitle one to make lofty assertions either. It doesn't surprise me Jockney likes this sort of thing, it's exactly the kind of delusion of grandeur he revels in.

I more or less said the same thing earlier on in the thread. Don't manufacture my consent, bro.

Of course, that is the point. I don't think the consent of a middle class london boy who purports to be working class can be manufactured tbh.

You are a bit obsessed by this image you have of me in your head. If you ever are in London I will buy you a pint. I think I might be something of a surprise to you.

Trump will inherit an active and largely oversight-free programme of extra-judicial assassination, a wide-scale programme of political policing, and a prison-industrial complex. He's been handed the keys of a country well on the road to murderous tyranny having campaigned on a platform of expanding murderous tyranny with the active support of fascist militias.

But let's wait and see, yeah?

It's been suggested that the Electoral College should dump Trump if he continues with his current efforts to rake in the cash and do deals, especially with foreign businesses and powers, on the back of his election. The Constitution provides plenty of scope if he doesn't put his business interests in a blind trust.

".......In an email to ThinkProgress, Eisen explained that “the founders did not want any foreign payments to the president. Period.” This principle is enshrined in Article 1, Section 9 of the Constitution, which bars office holders from accepting “any present, emolument, office, or title, of any kind whatever, from any king, prince, or foreign state......”

Which the entirety of the US political establishment were content to see expanded when Obama was in power, without the foresight to think that these powers would live on. Two US citizens were killed extra-judicially by Obama. Who next by Trump?

Is anyone else like me and just really getting sick and bored of all this shit? I mean the whole crazy circus show of what it's been and all the whining and bickering going on between the media and annoying immature people of the right and the left. Do people still not realise that there is not just a right and a left but an up and down that's called the MIDDLE and it is where you find this thing called common sense, maturity and yes normal people who aren't whiny mental nutcases that need to grow up and get a job and a life and actually try helping someone for once.

Not just the US presidency but the whole leaving the EU thing is getting tiresome now as well with the bitching.

That Abel Cohen fellow really dislikes pornography, eh?

And everything about the USA, seemingly.

So you have one thing in common with him!

He's bemoaning how his nation has lost its principles, something you have in common as well with Man Utd. :shifty:

Still can't quite believe this dolt's going to be moving into the White House. I mean Jesus, the guy's going to be inaugurated any minute and yet semi-coherent Twitter sniping still seems to be the order of the day. He's such a weird thin-skinned narcissist.
