This promises to be a momentous day for the Brewers win lose or draw. I am sure we will perform on the day but most times I have been to the Shabby stadium we have ended up on the wrong side of the result no matter how we play.
Brewers fans seem to scent this is going to be our season though and as of lunchtime today the official club and Independent supporters coaches total traveling to Cambridge was 18. All the 1400 seats sold out quickly and I believe the extra 900 terrace tickets are selling well too. Should make for a great atmosphere.
Delighted we are already promoted, the title if we were to win it would be the icing on the cake.

Yes. That was our best performance of the season, I think we've only played nearly as well as that twice since then, one of them being Man Utd at home, and we've also lost the player who basically allowed us to play like that since then (Kwesi Appiah). We are rubbish, half the team aren't interested, the manager has lost the plot completely, I think the only thing working in our favour is that we've generally done well in the better attended games this season. If you score first it's definitely game over.

2 wins in our last 20 league games.

We are unpredictable and have occasionally put in performances against better quality opposition - but usually away from home. The match at Burton was the pinnacle for all round performance really. Robbie Simpson hasn't played as well (or been given the opportunity in midfield) before or since. Hughes and probably Champion will also be missing from the midfield.

Even if we were up for it (and I don't think we will be) we won't have the quality on the pitch to deliver. You could give us an embarrassing thrashing I'm afraid. Enjoy the day. I can understand the nagging doubts - logic doesn't come into it.

I'm sure our stewards will be sensible in implementing (or not) the breathalyser part the club's latest quid pro quo effort to keep in with the powers that be but I agree with you - "I despair, I really do."

BURTON Albion fans will be able to watch their team being crowned champions of League Two at the Pirelli Stadium on Sunday – if the Brewers can complete the job at Cambridge on Saturday.

Albion travel to the Abbey Stadium knowing that a win will guarantee the title, which will be the icing on the cake after already securing promotion to League One for the first time in the club's history.

They take a two-point lead over Shrewsbury into Saturday's game and hope to go up as champions after a memorable season.

If they are successful, the trophy will not be presented to the team on away soil at Cambridge. Instead, the ceremony will take place at a celebration event at the Pirelli Stadium on Sunday.

Burton Albion hope fans will then turn out in force to join the team in celebrating the success.

To make it a special family occasion, there will be activities for children and a chance for fans to meet their heroes with bar and refreshments available.
Burton Albion chairman Ben Robinson said: "It has already been a fantastic season, having secured promotion to League One.

"But if the team do win the title, and go up as champions, we want to give all our supporters the chance to celebrate with the team and watch them receive the trophy.

"It would be another fantastic achievement for the club and we hope Jimmy and the team can get the one more win they need to become champions."

If the Brewers are confirmed as champions, the trophy will be presented to Burton Albion at the Pirelli Stadium at 3pm on Sunday with free entry to the seats and terraces through the turnstiles open from 2.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to come to the ground and fans will want to grab their own pictures of a key moment
in Burton Albion's history.

It has been a memorable season for Albion, who only 13 years ago were playing in the Northern Premier League.

They secured promotion to the Football League for the first time in 2009.

On Saturday 2,000 Albion supporters will be heading to Cambridge aiming to cheer the Brewers onto the title.

Well they have to announce it prior to the event surely so that if Albion do win the title fans know there will be a celebration on Sunday. This is due to the trophy not be presented to us on Saturday even if we win the league. Shrewsbury are playing at home so have no such worries.
Obviously I hope we winthe title but if we are pipped at the post good luck to the Shrews because they will have deserved it by finishing 1st after 46 games. Its that simple in my mind.
2,000 plus Albion fans will enjoy the day at Cambridge whatever the result as we are already promoted.

Agree with nearly all of what you've said but "completely lost the plot" is a bit strong. We'd have been relegated if that was the case and some people seem to forget that the manager never actually kicks a ball.

OK, maybe not completely, but he's still lost the plot, both in terms of his management (although that was months ago), and more recently with regards to the guff he's coming out with in the media. It's very reminiscent of some of his ramblings in his final weeks at Luton.

I still hope he walks after tomorrow, it would be a good time to go, and IMO it's the right time to move on for both of us, but I don't think he will, and I think instead it'll be a messy end at some point during next season.

Yeah see, I don't really care what our managers say to the press. After all, they can only release a certain amount of info anyway and therefore it's always a filtered version of the truth.

Obviously things finished acrimoniously at Luton but I wasn't following his interviews at all in the build up to his departure there so no idea what happened.

I'd personally like to see him get a crack at putting a team together for next season. I have no doubt he and Jez will already have identified targets like the summer of 2013 and history suggests it'd be successful.

Be a shame to lose him on 4 months of poor results given the last 30 months have seen our club move forward in strides.

Keeping fans waiting from getting into grounds because they MIGHT be drunk is hardly going to help - what happens if they get barred...

The clubs have to re-fund them?

My earlier despair was at the article and its origins, rather than our club's participation in the initiative.

I'm afraid this has kicked off from misinformation in a press article from a journalist who has form. Raymond Brown has a hysterical "let's make a dramatic story out of nothing" writing style which infests our local paper and seems to contrast starkly to a lot of local press elsewhere. The club and stewards will be very welcoming for your happy day and we'll be in a good mood as well.

The alco-blow device is aimed at assisting door staff at city venues deter those who are not fit to be let into clubs and pubs, by showing them that they are drunk. It is not planned or intended to be used as a routine screening device for football fans but only as an available tool for use by our stewards where an aggressive and obviously drunk person is to be refused entry, which should happen already, anyway.

The fact that our local paper seeks to associate drunks with the club and portray it in that way is, patently ridiculous, but par for the course for some of their "journalists".

As I've said elsewhere, this is not even a publicity stunt by the local police but by the "elected" politician (funded by our council tax) who's setting their priorities. Graham Bright, a Tory ex-MP, was elected as PCC after 15% of registered voters turned out and only received 25% of that vote. Democracy at it's finest.

In the national press, Amanda Jacks of the Football Supporters' Federation, said: “This unnecessarily demonises football fans for what is, largely, a scheme aimed at pubgoers and clubbers.

“For years stewards have had the discretion to ascertain “drunkenness” and refuse entry to supporters. We’re not entirely sure what is achieved by introducing this new system.

“Last season there were only eight arrests at Cambridge United home games, and a further eight at away games.

“Of those 16 arrests, only three were for offences relating to alcohol. By the Home Office’s own stats, football arrests are at their lowest point ever, and we think that’s a definitely a story worth reporting.”

.....but we all know that it won't be.

See, Arbury told you to relax. I don't begrudge you the win but a draw would have been sweeter.

That match encapsulated our season. Matched the champions for 70 minutes, played some good football, defended well, once again refused to be bullied (you started it, especially that excellent fullback, Edwards), then lost concentration and focus, against 10 men, to capitulate in the closing stages.

We saw the best and worst of the team, collectively and individually, over the 95 minutes but take nothing from (irritatingly whinging, ref hassling) Burton, who came back at us like champions - believing they could win and delivering despite most in the crowd knowing the score at Shrewsbury, which was being celebrated in the South Stand.

I think that Richard will be here next season and dampers have been inserted by DD and Jez to avert any chance of a meltdown until September at the earliest.

My best day of following the Albion in almost 50 years. There is a lot of character allied to ability in this squad. That's twice this season we have been down to 10 men and come back to win the game. Thought the U's were a bit limited in terms of quality but hung in there and got on top 2nd half, however once in front they were outplayed by the 10 men, the turning point of the game was the magnificent shot by Edwards to square things up at 2-2.
Good turn out and atmosphere from the fans and nice to see a fair few home fans stay behind to applaud the champions.

It must have been disappointing to lose the play off final last season, and quite often the losing team has a mediocre season afterwards so a lot of credit to all at the Brewers!

Cheers me duck ! Its been a long battle, surprised you slipped up yesterday but fully deserving of runners up spot. Just checked my top 3 prediction prior to the season and amazed to see I got it right although not in the right order.
Look forward to renewing our rivalry again next season and lots of local games for us to enjoy, has there ever been a better time to be in league 1, well from our perspective anyway !
