dun dun dun

Vale are a point off 5th place and have won 7/10 at home under Rob Page, Crewe are in the relegation zone having won 3 in the last 10 home and away, and have won just 2 out of their 14 away games this season.

I don't particularly want to talk about the reverse fixture. Christ on a bike.

Expecting a fiery atmosphere on the pitch and on here too if Dan Phillips migrates over in time.

Purely based on the fact that neither team has done the double over each other certainly that I can remember (in the league anyway) this should by rights be either a draw or Vale win.

Will go with the latter for a change. Think Crewe will survive in any case but think we are doing the business at home under Page so will take us to win 2-1.

How come TFF died today thougt it was staying on until March!

Onto the game, toughy, we've not turned up for the last two games against these and they seem to raise their game for it.

That said 22 points from 27 at Vale Park under Page so hopefully we can get the result to keep our play off challenge going. Could we see the return of the Pontiff after three months out too!

The admin on there spat their dummies out basically. Think they may have been a little put out that people weren't all worshipping the ground they walked on after they announced TFF was closing. Pretty pathetic really. Just seemed to shut down instantly this afternoon.

Has JJ made it here? This thread won't be the same without him along with Dan Phillips.

I think Vale have cleaned up a bit since Micky left, however let's hope Vale don't take quick free kicks or corners as Crewe get caught out to often in this department, not to mention late Goals!

That's exactly what we do

Right you anorak wearing train spotting sad bastards it's that time of year again where you make the short trip down the A500 to Vale Park.

How many do you think you will bring considering your utterly shite performances and results so far?

Also how many hooligans are you bringing to terrorize Burslem and it's community?

I think we'll win, purely cos it's the only away game Steve Davis sets us up to go all guns blazing to win.

This will be my 2nd game of the season, can't really miss it. Fancy us to terrorise you going forward much like last year, 3-1 to Crewe again.

We won't have Griff at centre half this time so shouldn't experience the shocking effort of the home game last year.

We have been fantastic under Page at Vale Park able to win in style and when necessary grind out results when the going is tough so if we perform as we have been Coventry aside then I'd expect us to get the win. We have the ability to put in a shocker but after not turning up the last couple of times against Crewe hopefully Page will have them fired up to put it right.

Hope Carl DIckinson plays, he put in the most inept defensive performance I witnessed all of last season against us.

1-1 draw though. Purely because no side does the double over each other.

Hmm. Think it is a good thing that we are going into this game off the back of a defeat, should hopefully refocus the players. Also don't think its a bad thing that the Vale are in decent form at home of late.

Too early to say what the team will look like. Guthrie will probably be dropped after going off injured and giving away a stupid penalty. Then its a toss up between Ray and Stewart for who will draw back in at the back. It'll most likely be the former. Need every player to step up, especially the strikers. I'd personally drop Ikpeazu and bring in LDV. Go all at em with pace and movement, then bring Uche on after an hour or so to give their tiring defence problems. Would also ensure Grant starts on the right of midfield, making sure he helps Baillie out at RWB because he left badly exposed on Saturday.

As for the Vale, they have done well under Page. However, it seems like they are just getting by teams, with their last 6 wins coming off a 1 goal advantage. We have to take advantage of their shaky defence(2 clean sheets all season) and look to score as many as possible but Page is a bit of an unknown quantity. Not really sure what sort of system, tactics, formation etc he likes to play. Also not sure how much he'll fire his players up for this game. I'd hope SD did his scouting of them against Gillingham a few weeks ago and has a good idea of what they'll do.

Not sure what we'll take numbers wise, we'll certainly take 4 figures, but after that I can't say. This is a must not lose game. A draw would be fine, a win would be amazing. I'll go optimistic and say 2-2 draw. Ajose and Cooper to score.

pity the vile creature Tootle won,t be playing as apparently he has been 'hurt' at suggestions he is faking an injury and was nearly crying on Radio Joke. Given the upturn in home form hopefully we can get a win but with our inability to keep clean sheets we have to score at least 2 every game to have a chance of a positive result.

jj ' just getting by teams ' ? we were 2-0 up at Crawley until the 89th minute, and Posh Sheffield and Gills all ought to of been bigger wins. i,m sure Crewe would like to 'just get by Vale' by 2-1. Sometimes the score doesn,t reflect the game and i find the comment bizarre.

Suicide. Unless they've drastically changed, Vale are always going to go into these matches trying to kick us off the park. It makes the likes of Uche, Grant, Tate, Davis first names on the team sheet imo.

Agree about Baillie needing more help though. He could get absolutely embarrassed on Vale's wide pitch if he's as exposed as he was on Saturday.

Roll on the weekend, looking forward to this one, Crewe found a bit of form and our recent home form has been great. Should make for a good game.
Oldham Rochdale called off so apparently if Doncaster beat Notts tomorrow and we beat Crewe, we are guaranteed 5th spot by 5pm on Saturday.

We've changed a fair bit under Page, we play a different formation 4-5-1 (well sort of a 4-2-3-1) and try and keep the ball on the deck more than under MA. It's why I'm finally hopefully we will put in a decent performance against Crewe for once as it's less predictable than under Adams.

The huge carrot now of knowing a win guarantees us a top six position Saturday should hopefully Fire us up too!

You clearly didn't understand what I meant. I wasn't making comment on how the games went, more the scoreline. Because fact is, your last 6 wins have all been by 1 goal. Wether you should have won them 5-0 or not is irrelevant, fact is, you aren't putting many teams to bed, unless they come and perform horrifically(as it seemed Orient and Yeovil did). So maybe the performances are better than the results would suggest, but then isn't it a concern that you aren't burying many teams and you are, despite playing well, going into the last few minutes of a game with the result sort of hanging the balance?

God, this place just wouldn't be the same without JJ's hideously long posts.
Aww, just because you Burslumites struggle to read, thats not my fault. :fish:

whether we won all by one goal is also irrelevant , 18 points and plus 6 goal difference for the matches, you can,t just say other teams play horrific either or was that the case with Gillingham last week or maybe the ref played a huge part ? i,ll take a jammy 1 goal margin victory now all day long and so would majority of Crewe fans.

The narrow hard fought wins are showing how far under Page we've come as before we couldn't do that.
