Grimsby get beat off every shit team in this league except us ffs
We are pretty bad ourselves judging by the last few games , Chesterfield was ok but performance wise it's really dropped off to still be comfortably 9th shows you the quality (lack of ) in this league - the top 7 might start to build a gap from the rest I think ; maybe Chesterfield can get involved but would take a really really big run now . We will finish lower than 9th I'm pretty sure on that maybe 12th or something ; I'm hoping Gills are as bad as people say they are to give us a boost Tuesday .

Wasn't there today and yet to see any highlights but I had a good feeling about this game, been a fresh energy about the place this week, small stuff like Whing meeting supporters informally in the bar last night and buying them a beer goes a long way.
We’re the perfect team to play for anybody on a long winless run, I can remember under Bignot we played away at Crewe who hadn’t won for months, and we lost 5-0.

Yup but we still created more than enough chances for the all important second goal.

We probably did enough to win, but it doesn’t help my ongoing worry that the manager desperately wants to play a system that is actively harmful to our chances of doing well. Not putting them back on their proper sides when Tsaroulla came on for Jones was criminal.

We did, on the stats we should have won but Bromley always carried a threat breaking quickly and we finished the game with quite an inexperienced team. Although they're tight calls I'd have bought Curtis Edwards on rather than Jarvis as he's an older head when Maynard chose to see the game out rather than push for a second.

It was but we weren't really poor and we did create enough.

To be fair to the ref, he had a good view of it and wasn’t surrounded by our players when he went for his card - red all day.
I'm not really blaming the ref, and like I said in my post, it is a red by the letter of the law. But, I don't think it should be personally. So it's not really a complaint against the ref. He's got it right. As Moore says, he's tried to control the ball, gone over the top of it and made a slight connection with the Chesterfield player.

That’s a leg breaker

View attachment 21462
That looks way way worse than it actually was. Watch the incident, it's a red, it's clumsy, a bit naive, but it's an honest attempt to control the ball and he's made contact with the lads foot.

It's one of them where if the ref gives a yellow, no one argues. Especially if you're over the age of 15 and have actually played the game before.

But, he gave a red, and you just have to accept that it's probably the correct decision.

If I was to play very poor amateur psychologist I’d say he still suffers from some non league insecurities and tries to be far too clever for his own good, especially in home games.

I don’t know how many times his substitutes/ ht talks have changed games for the better at ML, but it can’t be more than about once

I think you're right. He is overly worried about the opposition rather playing to our strengths.

Crewe
Crewe's manager has absolutely no idea how to set his midfield up. How Crewe are 2nd, I have no idea. I said a few weeks ago it would be surprising if Crewe kept playing this poorly and managed to stay in the automatic promotion race. I stand by that.

I'm feeling much better than I was 4 weeks ago. With our players back we look strong, physically good, win second balls and have balance. We're not pretty in any sense but I can see us winning more often than not, subject to injuries.

We were really good today and should have won 3 or 4-0. Last week at Harrogate, Flynn chucked all our new players (mostly youngsters) into the side and it was awful. Today he went back to what's been working with more or less the same side that's been pretty good since mid-October, and we were back to looking like a strong team.

We're too inconsistent to have a shot at playoffs but a top half finish is achievable.

Agreed we weren’t outright poor, things didn’t look ‘right’ but I think you probably have to credit Bromley for restricting space and slowing the game down.

I do think there’s something though in us bemoaning 2-3 missed chances in so many home games, Jacob said this last week I think but we operate in a methodical style that aims to create clear chances rather than half ones - for all the possession we had, I don’t think the game should have come down to one header for Whittaker (it’s still a horrific miss).

Just a weird one, I don’t think any player had a shocker but Abbott was our deepest player far too often for some reason, Didzy sort of did a Dan Crowley impression for most of the game and the wing backs looked ineffective (Jones slowed the game down too much and Austin frankly was terrible, I know he was on the left again so I blame Maynard more than him but how he’s played the full 95 minutes I’ll never know).

Whittaker’s let the man get the wrong side of him for the goal for me, after coming on for Grant who I thought was excellent. Naive from him but more naive from Maynard for sticking him on instead of Edwards.

Seeing a few highlights from other games fair play to the Accy player for that goal today. I didn’t think anything would top Andy Cook v us or Jack Shorrock v Crewe but that just may well have done it. Shades of Eric Cantona with that one.

Whalley is some player. Every time I’ve watched him he’s been the stand out player for Accrington.

Read a mad stat this morning which says that in the 14 games we’ve gone behind this season, we’ve failed to even equalise in 13 of them. Outstandingly weak.

Have a look at Bradford's 3rd goal. The scorer collected the ball in his own half.

I'm trying to get onboard with Grant but he's not giving me enough yet. Thought he as ok today some quality tody bits in there but looks a little passive at times and things not quite coming off.

Hinchy being the big positive I forget he's on 21 but it was a very assured performance.

As Maynard said it was a "nearly game". Thought we defended poorly for their goal with Platt being done my the step over and Bedeau going to ground.

Not sure how much of a difference it made yesterday - but we had an illness in the camp, the same one that kept Jellis out of the game, which could be another reason for the drop off in performance levels. Not to take anything away from the Bradford performance mind you.

Neither keeper has had much to do all game. We've had about 80% of the ball but not calved out many golden opportunities with it. We miss Markanday. Vale defended well and are a really well organised side tbf.
Think McFadzean will be absolutely fine, he's just quality. New left back looks like he's got a good left foot. Pepple don't look up to much to me.
Markanday huge miss as we knew he would be. Colclough wasn’t up to his best so we’re short on players who make attacks happen & move ball forward. Really liked McFadzean 2nd half, he’ll be a great addition. Pepple looks to have some good holdup play but he got bullied by vale cbs. He’s not ready to lead line on his own. We’re so lucky to have someone of Griggs quality. it doesn’t half show what difference he makes to team when he’s not there :(

I would have taken a point before the game but after the first half we were really in control and looked the stronger side. I think we go on to win 2-0 with 11 men. Chesterfield had a lot of the ball but looked very short up front. Barring a silly mistake from Sang we might have even held on with 10.

Silly challenge for the red. 10 years ago it's not even a booking but now the players go down like a boulder off helvellyn has landed on their foot and a referee who wants the game to be all about him, it's a sending off sadly. There was no malice in the challenge but it is what it is. Other than that I thought the ref was appalling...the very definition of a 'homer'. Zero consistency all game and falling for antics consistently. I knew from early on that he was one of these that 'has' to make decisions to be noticed and suspected that a sending off would come. The worst sort of ref. When will they learn that the best referees are the ones you hardly notice. Silly to give a very inexperienced game. Give him Salford v Accrington, where there's not the pressure of a big crowd.

Dobra is a decent player but he seems to struggle with gravitational forces...his first thought is to go down and the ref bought it a lot. Shame, as he could offer so much more influence. He's one of those modern sort of players who's first thought is to try and win fouls rather than get on with the game.

2 winnable games coming up and results generally went OK for us, so we move on.
To be fair re. Dobra I think Moore had sent your team out with the message to kick him a lot and get him off his game. I bet he's got a few sores and bruises today because I think he was definitely targeted. Especially first half there were a few heavy challenges where plenty was left on.
Don't get me wrong he's no angel but he does also get plenty of special treatment

I don’t think he got bullied by Vale CB’s at all. I actually think he did pretty well up there against 3 giant centre halves on his own, and brought others into play quite well throughout. He’s definitely not the finished article, but I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him so far.

He isn’t the goal threat that Grigg is though but we knew he wouldn’t be, what we need is our wingers contributing with goals like Berry/Markanday did throughout the first half of the season. Colclough is one of my favourite players but we need more from him in a goal sense as a player with his quality in a team as attacking as we are should have more than 1 league goal. Expect we’re going to sign atleast one more winger anyway, ideally to play off the right, and needs to be one that knows where the net is.

To be fair I`ve seen both teams lately and Bradford were much better, If Matt is out for a while and having lost Lowe I suspect you will struggle especially if Simkin forgets his arms again
