Crewe will torture us on Saturday based on this. Far too much aggression and energy for us to cope with.

Then in a few weeks Port Vale will destroy us. Again they’ll physically dominate and have players to put us to the sword.

Its going to be a tough month.
We have them both at home in the next month - ouch, how many did you win at home last season?

Horrible to concede late but a good point for Port Vale in general considering they were down to 10 for most of the 2nd half

Lankester for Crewe looked levels above the rest of his teammates, not sure if it's a one off though as I haven't seen Crewe this year until then
So that compared to GY v Colchester on quality then - close run thing eh...

Very good performance from us. Vale scoring early threw our gameplan out of the window immediately but that happened to be their only shot on target of the game and they didn't really work Marschall at all.

Harper is brain dead. Honestly I despised him when he played in our historically bad team because he came with so much hype and he constantly made poor mistakes that led to the opposition scoring whilst also looking like he didn't give a shit. I'm not surprised to see him drop to League Two and that's the second time he's actually been sent off against us in his career, the first being an unnecessary self destruction in the FA Cup vs Blackburn in 2017.

Absolutely battered Vale after the red but I'll give them credit, they defended fantastically. There's more than one way of playing and us and Vale have the best defences in the league. I don't get why excellent defensive play doesn't get enough credit. We did the same against Walsall and we're accused of anti-football 2 weeks after the game which is funny. They repelled almost every attack until we finally broke them down and boy we deserved that goal. A well taken finish by Lankester as well.

Said before the Walsall game 5 points from Walsall away, Notts at home and Vale away would be excellent and 5 points is exactly what we've got. Like the Walsall game, I felt everyone on that pitch for both sides (Harper apart) were excellent and gave everything and that's how it should be. Easily the two best defences in the league and Vale are better than Walsall (who I think will drop off a bit when Stoke inevitably recall Lowe in January unless they can replace him) and Notts (who were injury hit so I can excuse them for being toothless but looked so poor defensively) so to come out of those games without a defeat just shows we're more than capable of automatic promotion this season.

Onwards to Carlisle on Saturday. Cooney suspended whilst he's in the form of his life is a blow because I don't rate Billington at all. But we should have more than enough to get a result.

Decent point in the end after stupidity from Harper. Referee was absolutely diabolical, so giving him a decision like that was only going to end one way.

Inevitable Crewe pressure for most of the second half but I felt pretty relaxed for a lot of it. Lots of huffing and puffing but Ripley didn't have loads to do in terms of saves.

Crewe are a decent side, so a point given the circumstances is good. Strangely jubilant celebrations by them. I'd have been massively disappointed in all honesty if it was the other way around. It was attack v defence, yet nicked a goal in injury time.

I suppose it was a much bigger game to them than it was to us. Over 10k there is a fantastic effort from both fans though on a Monday night on TV.

Absolutely nothing strange about going mad after a 92nd minute equaliser

Doing your own players a massive disservice there. There's always a false expectancy that playing against 10 men is easy. It really isn't and we've had problems playing against 10 men for years. The fact your defenders and keeper were outstanding throughout such a one sided half meant it was a huge sense of relief that we got what we deserved so late in the game so why not celebrate it?

Also we're both in a promotion race. I know it's only the sour grapes and disappointment of dropping 2 points in injury time but if tonight isn't a big game to you I'd genuinely take up tiddlywinks or something.

No issue with that. It was at the end of the game, like they'd won the thing. Maybe I'm just wired up different.

It’ll have been mainly relief and quite honestly I’d be the same as them. Part of what’s great about the game those moments.

The replay of the Crewe goal is not kind to Cover who seemed to just assume it was going out of play before the cross. Young lad and he’ll learn but play to the whistle.

Agree with pretty much every word of this. I'm fairly happy with the performance, we just lacked that slight cutting edge until we scored, but we were up against a team which defended superbly, and we kept going and found our reward. We could have won the game but as I said earlier, I'd have been delighted with a point beforehand.

Now we've just got to make sure we stay switched on against Carlisle and keep the pressure up on the other teams at the right end of the table.

I don't rate Billington as a wing back, but I think he's a good defender, who could go on to be a very good one.

Stockport County.
I enjoyed the game, there was a lot of endeavour from both sides. Not an awful lot of quality in the final third however. I personally find this division very hard to call this season, it really will be about who can just time their run at the key time.

Crewe played well against 10 which sometimes isn’t an easy thing to do. Though if you were Vale you’d hope to have more of a threat on the counter.

Both will be up there which I didn’t necessarily think about Crewe after last week’s game against us.

Moore just mentioned that in his post match interview as well said it was frustrating but didn't lay into him too much. I have a feeling he'll tee off at Harper though behind the scenes for that red which he has no complaints about.

Equally, I found us standing off Shorrock and giving him so much freedom for your goal to be frustrating, Holicek stays tight to him and he never gets that shot off in the first place but it is what it is.

We'll see if they are better soon enough mate fair play though tonight I enjoyed watching the game you played really well.Fair point about both defences probably better than ours but I'd say we are better going forward than both sides.

Not sure what to think of that. Obviously happy to snatch a late equaliser, but also disappointed because of how one-sided the match was. Conceding so early really threw out what we were trying to do, and considering that was Vale's only shot on target in the entire 90 minutes that's hard to take. Vale's defense though was absolutely titanic, they were superb defensively. You can see why Moore gets a lot of 1-0 wins because they've got quality up front and then can hold most teams out for the remainder. They deserve a lot of credit for keeping us out for so long.

Rekeem Harper is absolutely wank and always has been. He was crap for us, he's crap for Port Vale, he's just crap. And completely brain dead. He and he alone cost Vale three points tonight. Cheers Rekeem.

But, away against fairly local rivals who are top of the league, that's a point I'd have loved at 8pm. I thought we'd get a hammering tonight, but we looked like the side at the top over that 90 minutes.

It's bittersweet. Could have lost, should have won, got a point.

Gutted to draw so late but before the game I knew a draw suited us more than Crewe. Keeps us 4 points clear at the top. Crewe will obviously be pleased but deep down they'll know that's a much better result for us than them. Especially with such a one sided ref, gave them literally every decision. Had an absolute shocking game. Albeit, the one thing he got right was the red. What a fucking idiot Harper is. Seen neutrals on twitter saying he got a bit of the ball. Don't care, stay on your feet with a yellow. We had some great chances go 2 up, so a bit gutted with how wasteful Richards was.

Great attendance, have to be chuffed with the point in the end. We defended absolutely superbly. Point probably fair, but some of our defending deserved all 3.

No, a point is brilliant for us, let's not play that game. We've got a game in hand, Walsall have two in hand - tonight was a game Vale would have loved to have won to consolidate the gap.

A point is a decent result, especially after having 10 men for over 50 minutes.

I’d be more disappointed if I was a Crewe fan. Thought they were wasteful at times.

I’ve seen us lose that type of game multiple times. So it’s nice to see a Vale team show a bit of heart and desire. Disappointing to concede so late on, but we were never going to carry on getting lucky escapes in the box.

How can there be a bigger game for either than 1st v 3rd between two 150 yr old clubs 13 miles apart, at this stage of the season? Although I was going on about the Grimsby v Hull rivalry from the 1950s on the other thread, even with us 2 leagues apart we are clearly more in Scunthorpe's football world than Hull's.

You'll get used to it, this is what some Vale fans do when they don't beat us.

Have to admit I’m really glad with the FA Cup 2nd round meaning we get Saturday off it’s inadvertently done us a favour getting knocked out by Barnsley as gives some needed extra rest before we have Cheltenham and Walsall next week. Vale looked spent understandably at the end.

I would say to Moore the Hackford experiment needs parking especially in a one up top. We’ve spent the best part of quarter a million each on Tolaj and Paton so surely they’re better options?

“Rakeem Harper is absolutely wank”
I wholeheartedly agree.
Good game.
Enjoyed it.
Felt kind of relaxed when that crackhead got sent off, pressure was on Crewe, and we kept them mainly at arms length, they were bound to get at least one decent chance.
Hackford is also wank.

I’d have been a lot more nervous if we were holding on against Stoke.

It's an equally good result for Vale and Crewe. Vale because getting away with something after being dominated for an entire half is always a positive and us for getting a point at the league leaders away from home which you'd take at 8pm. Great opportunity for us and Walsall to reel Vale back into the pack with our games this week too and Walsall obviously have that extra game in hand too.

Great strike from Shorrock to open the scoring, didn't realise it took a slight nick off Holicek to go in, still a good finish mind. Thought it was a pretty balanced first half, we shaded possession and territory whilst the Vale had the better chances.

Can only thank Harper for still being utter pony, how that lad is still in the EFL is beyond me. Frustrated to not be able to break down 10 men for an entire half, but got there in the end with a lovely finish from Lankester.

Game took it's toll though, Bogle hobbled off and Cooney got his 5th yellow card, so he's out for the Carlisle game, which isn't ideal given we have no back up RWB. Still, we'll be on a high after tonight, so can go into Carlisle with plenty of confidence. 5 points from the teams ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd heading into November will do me nicely.

We had 10 men for 50 mins against a side in the top 7. We were always going to get dominated. We’re Port Vale not Man City.

Does feel weird to say it’s a point gained than two lost for us with how the game ended but yeah I think both can say that when you look at the context. Not too fussed about gaps over anyone especially the top of the table, that will change hands multiple times. I’m pretty certain this is going to be a season where pretty much everything will be up for grabs going into the final day.

The lad you have on loan from Bolton looks a decent player I thought. Said for us Croasdale but also Hall and Sang at the back were outstanding.

Bromley for us tomorrow night not sure what to expect being honest I don't know a great deal about them.
