The club are hardly going to say that’s it we’re settling for mid table are they? The adverse effects to be seen thinking that way would see attendances fall, fan disgruntlement and possibly see the team drop down the league towards the bottom. We were 4th bottom this time last year, McCann was still saying playoffs, we made it.

I can us ending up round about where we are now. Successful teams don't scramble around for incomings in January trying to sort problems out. It's all just a bit disjointed and messy and has been pretty much all season. I think we've used for getting on 40 players this year. You can tell as well, there's no real cohesion at the back or real bite in our attacking patterns. You never know, just got to keep plugging away. I'd have taken mid table in our first season back before a ball was kicked tbh.

Can either ourselves or Cheltenham put a run together that gets them within touching distance of the play offs ? At this stage of the season one of the current mid table sides often does this, hope springs eternal, but not this season for the Cods. Too much inconsistency, lack of firepower up front all combined to make us a middle of the road side. Still it will be nice to get a win at the weekend, heads it's Cods, tails it's the visitors and it's.....a draw

I think we can, I don't think we will though.

We're just far too inconsistent in our performances, as shown in our game last night against Peterborough. First half we were outstanding, second half we were dreadful.

I'll take what we can get at Fleetwood, even a battling defeat, as long as the performance is there. Our home game against them in September was probably our worst performance of the season so far.

For what it's worth, I thought you looked decent when you came to us. Just a few key bits went against you.

Some fans might feel that way, but everything coming out from the club including Cook & Webb in their interviews this weeks suggests their sights are well and truly set on a play off push, so they’re defo not settling in-house.

I know the points gap looks significant at the moment, but all it takes is a bit of consistency over 3 or 4 games and you can be right back amongst it. Likewise though it can obv go the other way, as shown over the Xmas period… at one point in the game vs Bradford just after Xmas we were sat in 2nd in the live table, and that’s only just over a month ago, and then suddenly a few games after that we’d ended up with 3/4 losses on the bounce & dropping out the top 7!

Problem for us is that consistency has been an issue all season, and I’m not even talking about results here, but bloody team selection… it’s just been so stop/start all year for reasons well documented which has hindered us gathering any real momentum at any point, and I think that’s what’s led to quite a few fans losing hope on the play off push & settling for mid table. FWIW, my opinion is that with the manager we have I think it’s daft to be writing us off with as many as 18 games left to play. I also think we have a pretty decent set of fixtures for the run in from March onwards with the odd tough one thrown in… so you never know.
We do have a favourable run in - I just worry that our next two games are Donny at home and Walsall away. We could easily be 14 points off top 7 after these 2.

That’s exactly the same for us too, at Accrington New Years Day we were 2-1 up and second in the live league table, we went on to lose that game and lose 2 of the next 3 too and dropped well off the pace.

Even as disjointed, stop start and unfortunate with injuries this season as been for the Spireites it would be madness to do anything other than aim for the playoffs. Due to their obvious recruitment approach on paper they have one of the best sides and squads in the division. Due to this, this season is a great opportunity to get a playoff spot. I keep expecting them to go on a run of wins and jump right into that mix.

One thing you can't fail to notice with the Chesterfield squad is the age profile. Next season, if still at the club, the likes of McFadzean and Fleck won't likely be there and the old ones that will or could be like Naylor Grimes, Madden, Grigg plus the other 30+ year olds will all be a year older, year slower etc. Now is the time.

We'll certainly be aiming for the playoffs, whether or not we can get them is another matter. Would probably be down to other teams faltering than us powering past them. I think we'll see a heavy amount of movement both in and out in the summer whatever happens.

I think top 10 would be decent for Chesterfield purely as a first season back in the division, despite bookies early predictions it felt a bit wild as there is a difference in quality to who is in this division and that below and is a step up.

Notts County is a good example where it took a a consolidating first season and now really challenging.

Whatever happens you'd expect Chesterfield to then be challenging the top 3/7 next season certainly from a solid base.

Absolutely agree, it would make a reasonably successful first one back. The bookies odds were always insane, scared I think by the Stockport / Wrexham effect but we were never going to do that.

You’re pretty much mirroring our first season back in a lot of ways really. Held on to a few too many of the National League boys, decent attack but let too many goals in, and unlucky with injuries.

Another summer and you’ll be proper contenders next season I’d think.

At home to our ultimate bogey side in Harrogate.

We always lose there and manage to scrape occasional draws at home.

I think we will beat the jinx this weekend with a narrow scrappy 1-0 victory, similar to the last home game against another team we usually struggle against, Morecambe.

Disagree re age profile of the squad. We have 20 OOC in the summer so we will have a full rebuild despite the few old boys. Fleck and Grimes will both be gone.

Naturally I don't know the contract situations but do you disagree for this season or next?

Assume the latter and then if so yeah big turnover of players expected. Maybe a younger looking squad for next season?

It should have been played Saturday but due to us playing in the Cup on Monday it’s been moved, it isn’t on Sky Sports+ because Chesterfield chose not to allow it so it didn’t affect the attendance

Next season. Younger squad and shift out some of the NL players like Grimes, Williams & Palmer etc.

I thought our squad was too old coming into this season but we have an opportunity to put that right next season.

Is that true re attendance? Being on Sky hasn’t affected us at all as home support is rock solid. It would be 8500-9000 tonight regardless of tv.

Assume it’ll be on tv via dodgy stick for those that have one.

It’s what we’ve been told. Given the reduced away attendance it was the hope of being able to watch the game for those unable to attend.

Stop thinking along the lines that fans are actually important.

Need six points from the next two home games. No excuses.
