Not really in performance though, you lot you were top five for over half the season and then fell off a cliff didn't you? Chesterfield have pretty much been 8th to 12th for the whole season just chugging along fairly well but not really ever properly threatening.

Aye we did it in our own chaotic and entertaining way, but I think a lot of the underlying problems are the same really.

Our national league defence looks very national leaguey. There's more goals in this for them
Just coming back to this. Donny are always going to create & have chances as they’re a good side, but personally I thought Shecks, Williams & Grimes were all brilliant tonight. The first two have surprised me this year and really stepped up this year and are actually playing better at this level than they did in the National League IMO.

Sparkes at LB though, looks a brilliant signing him doesn’t he. His delivery into the box is very good and I would love to get him on a perm in the summer & have him and Gordon competing for that spot next season.

Funny game. Donny could’ve been easily been winning at HT. We were getting completely overrun in midfield and both goals for us came from balls over the top. Second half we were much better and deserved the win in the end but the scoreline flattered us.

Good win. Onto Walsall.

Yeah it was a bit frantic at times really. Typified by Thompsons remarkable triple save, which is quite possibly the best bit of goalkeeping I’ve seen at Whitt Moor since we moved there. Then contrast that with inexplicable missed cross (corner?) for Donny’s second. Mental stuff.

Great game, really enjoyed it.

Yeah 2nd half was a lot better, apart from a few moments near the end. 1st half looked sketch as hell, gave Donny numerous openings. Like Dearne said I think a few Cookie tactical and formational tweaks (including somehow Olakigbe and Duffy over on the right wing together?!) changed things quite a lot. Then they understandably got a bit scared of our pace in behind that we've suddenly got. I wasn't at all sure on Pepple I thought he looked wank tbh, but with fast wingers willing to whip a cross in it suddenly plays to his strengths a bit more.

Agree re Sparkes he's looks the real deal. I reckon you'd get 10 assists out of him at LB given a full season, those left foot deliveries are lethal.

We were good 2nd half, it was one of those games where everything we hit seemed to go in. Fingers crossed it should re-instil a bit of confidence. Walsall should again hopefully be a game where we get to counter a bit as well.

For Port Vale fans going tomorrow, the anti-ownership group are having a post match protest at 2.30 after the game.

You'll be able to see who is protesting as they are wearing orange hats. As the location is behind the Arkells stand, which is where you guys will be leaving from, wanted to make you aware as there will be more fans milling about than usual. Obviously I hope the day goes well and without incident, but thought you should be made aware. Safe journey there and back, hopefully with 0 points.

Ian Holloway has just won manager of the month so if the curse exists, then the omens are not good for us! :)

Thompson is a great shot stopper just very one footed leading to poor distribution at times.

If previous is to go by a fair few fans of ours if aware would probably join in and support the cause. We had the Reading game last year where they forced it to be abandoned and our fans who'd made the trip by and large supported them and chanted with them.

I’ve always found the manager of the month award a bit of a myth to be honest at least when it comes to us. Off top of my head have known Darrell Clarke and Darren Moore win it in back to back months so wouldn’t say it did us any harm at least.

Good luck with the protest if that’s the right phrase to use. Already been witness to a pretty big one this season with Morecambe when we played there.

Yeah you guys got the shitty end of the stick with the Reading protest. Ours is designed to back the team on the pitch as much as possible and protest against the board off it, so there shouldn't be issues with tennis balls or abandonment etc!

Best player in the league don't @ me

An assist for the first goal and a significant hand in the third and fourth goals as well.

On current form he's certainly got to be in the conversation.

He’s always been one of our best players since he joined, but he really has stepped it up in recent months hasn’t he. It’s the end product that seems to have got that bit more consistent as his all round play has always been very good and always had plenty of influence in games.

If he keeps this up over the next few months we’ll be making a few quid in the summer that’s for sure.

Completely agree with you. Strangely though, his kicking was actually very good yesterday… I thought I was watching a different keeper.

Could almost take it personally now you mention it. The Reading one was strange though as you could see their fans were somewhat split on the whole thing. Maybe even argue they got a more sympathetic hearing from the away fans that day.

Looks like Ripley not starting for you due to a “gentleman’s agreement” between Vale and Swindon. How incredibly civilised there.

Was just reading about that. More likely we fucked up the paperwork!

We've gone from playing the likes of Derby and Bolton last season in L1 to now playing the likes of erm, Grimsby ****ing Town in L2.

It's an absolute tragedy what's happened to our club and just shows how the mighty have fallen.
