Ok, so obviously looking in as an outsider you're 4th in the league and overall have had a very good season, which is why I said what I said originally, a promotion push for Walsall is rare in this league (no disrespect). So I can understand why your board are worried all the early season hard work post SOD may go to waste. Hope you find a decent replacement anyway, would be good to see Walsall in the playoffs at least.

Also heard after posting my original comment about the behind the scenes unrest. Surprised that SOD would behave this way towards other club staff though. Sounds like the right decision after all. Anyway like I said, good luck.

Great decision Walsall. Fuck league position. If a bad egg is a bad egg, then he'll stay rotten. Caretakers to restore harmony until the summer where a decision can be made depending on what division they find themselves in.

Then the final straw yesterday, saying that the worst aspect of the entire day was the 'performance of the fans'. LOL. I mean fuck off, do you have a sack wish?

Hahaha tell me about it mate. In 2013 we had just beaten the gas and our support that night was absolutely fucking electric. At the final whistle a couple hundred of our fans (approx 1.1% of our total fans at the game that night) ran onto the pitch to celebrate and goad the Rovers fans (They had done exactly the same to us in a JPT game in 2007). SO'D was interviewed and asked about the game. His response? "Our fans were a disgrace, etc etc etc I thought the Bristol Rovers fans were excellent though". Fucking joker.

Didn't seem a great appointment at the time Imo, pretty sure wherever he's been he's needed time to get it right. With the position Walsall were in they shouldn't have gone after someone like that. Still seems quite surprising he'd be sacked so soon though.

Good luck in the play-offs though, you go up and Colchester down and I think that's us as the longest serving L1 team. One for the trophy cabinet.

Does that officially make you tinpot?

S'OD has always struck me as a complete bell-end. Imagine he will end up at Donny next season.

Not particularly surprised.

I've not really kept up-to-date too much with regards to results, but it did seem a weird appointment at the time. S'OD's time as a manager has been and gone IMO.

I think you can see from these articles today just how he had rubbed the media up the wrong way. The Walsall reporters are generally, very, very calm and say it like it is. They always spoke highly of Dean Smith, the club and the players. The fact both these articles are written with frequent digs at SOD, just goes to show what kind of a person he is and how he rubbed off in all aspects of the job in the wrong way..

Jon Whitney has been handed the job as interim manager for an unknown length of time, probably until the end of the season unless Dean Smith gets the sack before then. Good move. A proper Walsall die hard. Done a superb job as physio and is the right kind of person to know how to get the best out of the players having been Physio and acting management for many years now.

The fun enviroment that Smith/ROK had created completely evaporated overnight under SOD and he should be the man to bring that back.

Whitney and John Ward? Talk about old school.

John Ward will be assisting him, they both ran the first XI during the interim period of Smith leaving and SOD being appointed in November and Ward let Whitney appear as the figure head. There was no way we would appoint externally again after the SOD disaster. Whitney has been at the club for years, is very popular at the club and with the players. He was also part of the early season success so he knows what environment gets the best out of the players we have, the formations/players who were successful during the early season - he just ticks all the boxes. Also has a 'go and get them' kind of attitude that is precisely what will be needed to motivate the side after being bored too tears through that dullard's motivational talks for the last few months.

Thank fuck that dour bastard has gone, horrible short time at the club, had to be bad cos we really don't do brave decisions like that. A shame cos he was literally everyone's first choice when smith jumped ship and seemed the 'perfect' fit.

New chapter again now, hopefully we get back on track and the boys have a bit of fire in their Bellies again!
