That's the rest of his childhood gone then, witnesses had said some of the attackers seemed very young.

I was on a narrowboat with friends traveling through Wolverhampton three years ago. There were five of us chatting peacefully on the back of the boat. A group of three lads - between 11 and 14 - walking alongside us asked if we were foreigners. We said no, but thanks for enquiring. Just a friendly answer to a very loaded question. Seconds later a barrage of stones were thrown and the gang reappeared further down to repeat the attack. 30 minutes later, we had to intervene (and call 999) when we saw a youth beating up a girl on the towpath, including stamping on her head. An hour later we came across a tent on fire.

99.9% of the people of Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas are wonderful, friendly, decent people but the 0.1% really are cause for despair. I guess it's no different anywhere else, but this reputation is depressing. I look at the friendly reception everywhere we go and I compare it with the aggressive, snarling scum that I see invading our pitch, setting off flares with impunity, endlessly chanting obscenities (the "let him die" chant at injured opposing players being only the most odious of a motley collection of gratuitously offensive stuff that gets aired by far too many of our intellectually-challenged flotsam).

Maybe it's me, maybe I'm getting too old for it, but I'm just sick of the nastiness. They're like Mesolithic tribes with iPhones. Young people who are pumped up with nationalism, xenophobia, and demands for respect without ever having done anything to deserve it. I even see it here in these forums...look at some of the internecine rivalry and hatred between some. The banter is fun, but so often it turns vicious, designed to humiliate or hurt.

I'm going to the Brighton match Saturday, but I'm not sure I want to be associated and financially support for much longer with an entity that does so little to really combat the violence and hatred. I'll always support Wolves, but I'm tired of the scum. I admit my view are coloured by my son's experience as a steward in Sheffield and Rotherham for the last three years, where he was regularly spat at, pushed, verbally abused, manhandled and taunted by scum from many clubs, including Wolves. It's testament to his character that he kept doing it largely because he enjoyed the rapport and sense of responsibility with the vast, vast majority of decent people at these games.

Why do we implicitly accept the bad behaviour of the tiny minority? More importantly, why do some clubs do so little about their problem supporters?

I fancy the travelling Wolves fans could be in for some dodgy days out in the coming weeks & months, I've heard talk on more 'fruity' forums that the wider football community may target them in retribution.

Load of nonsense as it'll no doubt be more of the innocent types who get caught up rather than the bellends who carried out the attack.

A £1,000 donation just came in, you've got to think that's another player.

Good to see.

Sorry, it's not just nonsense, it's utterly abhorrent. I mean what the fuck is wrong with people these days???!!!!! We seem to have returned to some kind of Neolithic age.

Totally understand your sentiments friend, but I hope you don't stop going to football as a result of this. It's the vast majority like you that will eventually see the end to this type of behaviour by the moronic few.

Don't let them win.

Really can't be arsed with it, increasingly. Clubs and 'the system' sucking more and more cash out of me and delivering less and less.

The reality is that decent people get fucked over while the establishment creates the illusion of splendid harmony, while ignoring society's cancers. Maybe Channel 4 are lining up a new reality show "I'm a Vicious Feral Degenerate C**t, Get Me Out of Here". Oh wait, that's also called Election Night Special.

The age of the attacker is a bit sensationalist if I am honest in the way it's being handled, a 13 year old killed a 53 year old man last week in London for example. Both are horrifying, un defendable acts, however there have always been violent crimes involving kids and it always gets labelled as society crumbling, and probably always will.

When I was 14/15 the incident below happened, two girls aged 12 and 13 "kicked another girl to death" after a fight at the fun fair, I was never allowed to go to the fair due to fights and it being widely known that it attracted trouble (in previous years someone from the fair had stolen my Granddad's dog and then assaulted an uncle that went to retrieve it). However many people from my school where there and said that the two girls who had gotten into a fight with this girls friend, who had tried to intervene, one of them had punched her and then the other one kicked her once in the head, sounds horribly but she wasn't thinking "I am going to kill this girl", whilst I have zero sympathy for those two, it was always made out to be worse than the circumstances.

Latest from his wife:

"I know everyone is desperate for an update on Nic/moos condition but he has been critical but stable so not much to say. In the last couple of days he has been taken off all sedation and is controlling the pressure in his head so no more help needed there. He has had a tracheostomy fitted and is down to 25% oxygen, he is breathing himself with that little bit of help. Physio is working on him daily and he is spontaneously moving his left arm and leg. We have seen his eyelids slightly open and he moved his eyes in the direction of our voices. We are all so pleased with how far he has come and are waiting for him to 'wake up' to see where we go from here. We are truly thankful for everyone's support, prayers and good wishes for him and our family. The Drs/nurses here are simply the best and West Midlands police seem to be doing a great job in finding the Scum! Also, a massive thank you to Ollie for starting his fund and to everyone who has made a donation. This will give Nic the best rehab he may need. Xxx"

Firstly, let me say I hope the chap makes a full recovery and his family we coping with the situation. As has been stated by all, to sustain injuries such as he has is simply deplorable.
When I was at Wolves on Friday night, I was speaking to one the stewards outside the ground and the conversation got onto the attack, he stated and I know this will invoke some negative reaction on here, that there is more to the story than him being attacked and that there was a confrontation prior to the final attack. The way he was talking, he implied that the few Watford fans weren't as innocent as the media are making out.

I sincerely hope this isn't the case and that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time and his attack was completely unprovoked.

I think the feeling is there was some sort of clash but he wasn't involved directly - passing by or something and just got caught up in the incident sadly.

Awful news this. Really hope the bloke makes a full recovery.

What is great to see is that the lad who is doing the fundraising is only 16. That is what Football is all about, the fact that all the genuine decent people can all come together in times like this.

People where definatly provoking things, and as a result I was really not surprised it happened but in this case all accounts suggest he didn't provoke it.

Hopefully he keeps making good progress ! It is sad to read news & incidents like this, it is only a game and one we love but the minority do ruin it at times.

We are having an issue with flares at moment and the idiot fans throwing them into our own fans, already had some fans banned so hopefully once them idiots are gone we will have no more issues.

I dont think the person who threw it will of meant to hit another fan will he. Id guess he was aiming for the pitch but didnt quite reach. I think 3 and 5 year bans are way ott for setting them off too. Although i suppose they know what to expect should they get caught

Doesn't matter if they meant to hit another fan or not, we all know they are banned and whether if they mean to hit anybody or not they are still putting our own supporters at risk ! 3 & 5 year bans are great because if they are only turning up to matches to light and throw flares then are they really fans of the club, they could end up landing club with a fine also.

My dad used to be on Kop back in BBC days and remembers fans getting hit by coins and cigarettes that had not been put out by our own fans, the minority of fans who act like a complete tool need to wake up and sing loud and proud but anything else stay away !

Having been at the pre season match versus Fenerbache this year I have zero sympathy for any of your fans moaning about being banned for that! For a second when that one exploded I thought the stand was going up in flames when it seemed to spread and all there fans legged it out onto the concourse.

Flares are absolutely not intended for us like that, I appreciate the irony of moanign about flares considering my avatar as well.

Got to agree...... flares are nasty. High percentage of the population suffers from asthma, heart and lung conditions and in an enclosed space the smoke is distressing and dangerous.

It's absolutely not funny. We have been plagued by flares in recent years, and yet despite more cameras than in a Hatton Garden safe deposit vault, there hasn't been (IIRC) a single caution or arrest.

This was on the Not 606 site via Facebook:

Just to let you all know I ran in to Nick this morning in Hemel high St. Hadn't seen him since before the incident at Wolves and to see him up and about was great, looking very well and is going to Everton away the start of the season !! COYH ... he was with his mother and father in law and youngest child and although shaking hands he had to think for a moment then remembered my name little emotional !!!
Yes as I say he's walking fine looking back to normal weight, his father in law is going to games with him next season so his wife will be happy I'm sure.

So some excellent news - great to hear he is out and about.
