The a38 derby is back on again. Didn’t think I would see that for some time..
Not a surprise is it. They will potentially get a 21 point deduction. No chance of staying up with lower mid table form.

The new Bolton.

I wonder if they have a dickhead fan too?
Gillingham certainly have one !
Think Gillingham are not far behind Derby.......................Lets see if you are gloating this time next year

No fans deserve to be shafted by useless/corrupt owners.
Agree totally but sadly it is something that we see repeated with unerring regularity. There really should be a fitness for purpose test for owning and running a football club, which might save a few from asset strippers or those who shouldn't be trusted to run a bath...but who would create and uphold the rule. I think the current situation where clubs are sanctioned, by way of a points penalty is unfair on those who matter the most (fans and players) but it currently seems to be the only option open to those running the game. As mentioned above, it would seem that Derby will be the next Bolton...the saddest thing is that there are other clubs lining up to follow in their wake.

It’s because there is never a long line of prospective owners that the EFL are less than stringent about who they ratify. Somebody is better than nobody.

The only logical solution - especially for the smaller clubs is to have ownership 50/50 with their Supporters Trust - The German model. Force clubs into publishing full accounts - not those abbreviated ones that hide a multitude of financial sins - even if for EFL eyes only.

It can’t go on like this.

I think Mel Morris has the best intentions for derby, he’s a fan who has spent huge amounts of his own fortune chasing the dream and very nearly done it in getting to the play off final but unfortunately that chasing has now come at a cost and it’s only right they face the consequences that’s coming their way.

I think it would have made more sense for them to have accepted the deduction last season and be relegated then start fresh this season but instead the fans will have put up with another year of struggle, fingers crossed we’ll stay up so we can play them next season.

21 points this season plus a 2 year transfer embargo.

There’s always the chance that nobody wants to buy in which case they will get liquidated. Unlikely, I know, but that’s the position Morris has put the club in.

Makes his mocking of the EFL in that undercover documentary come back to bite him on the arse. Reckoned he had them ‘dangling on a string’ with his brilliant financial shenanigans.

I wonder how many clubs are lining up to be the next Derby...or Bolton.

When we went into the Pandemic there was speculation in the media, and other places where footy is discussed, that the close down would see clubs that were close to the edge getting even closer. Those that were in precarious positions financially would clearly struggle even more without the regular income from match days, they still had costs like wages and maintaining facilities but no easy way to pay the bills.

We dodged it - just. Not much to do with Covid, though.

Oh how I’ve missed those 1-0 away wins at pride park. Seems like it’s been coming for a long time. Still hilarious how they missed out on the championship playoffs in 14/15

Dont like how people are gloating at Derby demise when there clubs have been through pretty much the Same
For once i cannot blame the EFL for this....Morris would be the ideal owner for Derby.

I feel sorry for Wycombe, they’ve been shafted, should have stayed up with Derby relegated and then every chance of Derby in League 2 next season.

Surely Rooney can’t stay? His wages paid by the betting company I heard. He will have to go ? And some of the big earners too.

what’s wrong with the A38 Derby you have with us that you need another?

I genuinely surprised more clubs in the Championship are not in the same situation as Derby.

If Derby won that playoff game against Villa, it might have been Villa who are put in administration instead of Derby. Both teams were heavily overspending the past few seasons. The entire Championship is a lottery to see which team gets promoted to the Premier League before it is too late.

Ridsdale has claimed on numerous occasions that shit is going to hit the fan for a lot of clubs and it is a wait and see situation. A sort of 'quit your moaning and I'll be proven right in the future' sort of message to our fans.

If anyone is able to spot the signs of impending disaster, it is him.

Probably. But how do you prevent it? There’s always a few club owners who think they’ve come up with a wizard ruse to get round the rules. How have Reading been allowed to spend over 200% of income on wages alone? Points deductions are all well and good but it needs to be prevented in the first place.

They all blame it on COVID but these clubs have been spending big on wages particularly for a long time and it’s coming home to roost .
