Saw the attached image on twitter. Not sure where this image has come from but I know Tranmere are actively looking at a new stadium at either junction 3 of M53 or at the docks.

Why do you need a new stadium?

Also, Barnet have never played Tranmere?! How is that even possible these days

The Main stand is falling apart and inadequate facilities. Tranmere want to install a hotel, corporate boxes, better events facilities, permanent fan bar, restaurants etc.

To do this with the existing main stand would cost 10m and the would be limited ways to finance it. A move to the docks on probably free land would allow them to sell stadium sponsorship, as well as the existing prenton park site which is worth a lot of money.

League 2 is absolutely abysmal. We went on a run of over a month without a win, 3 months without an away win and we never really looked like dropping out of the top 5.
After we beat you guys we had 83 points from 41 games and only got 2 points from the last 5 games.
We were the model of consistency until the last few games maybe the players just couldn't raise their game after they'd got promoted dunno.
Granted we struggled to win at home we only won 3 out of the last 11 having won 8 out of the first 12.
We were excellent away from home all season.

Yes, it is Craven Cottage.

I actually think the gulf between League Two and the Conference is huge, aside from the top two or three sides in the National League. Bristol Rovers, Lincoln and ourselves coped comfortably with the step up, but we had the gates and resources to make the transition easily.

I don't think those sides are representative of the general standard down there, which is still poor.

A) That's Craven Cottage!
B) Surely not, we've just rid ourselves of a load of debt, why make it hard for ourselves? Who's paying for it? I heard that the idea was looked at when Mark and Nicola first took over but they decided against - quite rightly too(!)

I recall Mark being asked about this at a Trust meeting a few years ago and it wasn't economic then, because of the restrictions on the amount of houses which could go on the land, it wasn't as valuable as some believed.

If we ever need to expand, I think the most viable idea is to turn the pitch ninety degrees a la Bournemouth, and demolish the Main Stand.

I'd agree with that.

There was a noticeably big step up and the 3 up, 3 down argument from L2 to the NL is certainly a non-starter despite continuous calls for it. There was a bottleneck of bigger teams down there a few seasons ago - Luton, Bristol Rovers, Tranmere, Lincoln, Mansfield, Grimsby, Wrexham, Stockport etc - with varying degrees of success, which prompted further calls for it, but that bottleneck isn't really there anymore.

The step up is difficult but not insurmountable if you have momentum but in particular the gates and finances to be able to do so (Bristol Rovers, Tranmere, Lincoln etc) but those who struggle tend to not have it available to churn through the squad as quickly and/or sign solid L2 players (Mansfield, Grimsby, York, Cheltenham, FGR, Macclesfield in their first seasons back but eventually move the NL squads on). We shed 50% of our NL squad in the summer after promotion, then replaced more in January (I think Tranmere's good run in the second half of the season came off the back of replacing some of their NL squad?). Not all Clubs are in a position to do that.

The advantage that Tranmere and Bristol Rovers also had was that they had two good strikers (Taylor and Norwood) to come up with.

And to win the NL and take the only automatic promotion spot you generally have to be hitting 90+ points. We won the league with two games to spare and finished on 99 so that straight away is a decent standard. Wrexham and Kidderminster in recent years have hit high 90's and not even got promoted!

I found L2 in the last couple of seasons to be of worse quality than when we got relegated in 2010/11 but I don't think it's completely terrible. The gap between the top and bottoms sides just doesn't seem as big as 10-15 years ago.

This season was a weird one. We were top for 99% of it, had 4 or 5 teams have a nibble at us occasionally but there never felt a promotion or title race for us. We weren't as pretty on the eye or expansive as Bury, for example, but we always looked in control all season. A no fuss, solid, efficient title win (still scoring lots) that had an element of 'when' rather than 'if' about it, from quite early on. As the season panned out, it turned out we effectively won it in mid-March at Crawley with 8(?) games to spare.

We keep passing each other!
Add my voice to those thinking that Tranmere looking to build a new stadium is entirely pointless.

Why Tranny need a new stadium is beyond me.
I outlined the reasons in my post and I know for a fact it is being explored as a possibility. Rebuilding our main stand wouldn’t be that much cheaper and would knock 7,000 off the capacity as well as remove all our corporate facilities for at least 2 years.

Yeah the image was posted by a fan I just wasn’t sure what of.

A waterfront stadium does fit in perfectly with Wirral councils “20/20 vision” plan and also the fact Mark eluded to the council having a future stakeholding in the club. Notwithstanding the outside investment of which there are numerous suitors.

Rebuilding your main stand would cost about 1% of the price of building a new 20,000 seater stadium. Madness.

Tranmere release Steeeeve McNulty.

I underestimated him myself on the first time I saw him play for Luton and again when he signed for us, but in national league and league two he reads the game second to none. Imperious when he came on at Wembley. Two promotions as club captain, icon.

He changed the game for us at wembley, settled the defence down when it looked like newport were gonna over run us.

Do not let wirral borough council near a new stadium they will mess it up completely .

They will: put parking meters everywhere, ban dogs, loan any profits to other councils and expect the council tax payer to foot the bill, build on adjoining golf courses, allow companies to buy land on the cheap and do nothing

I don't think we do, but the newer stands were built on the cheap nearly 25 years ago and the main stand has been going since the 1960s. Eventually the ground will be in need of renovation... just maybe not yet.

If what we have seen and heard you might not be around to play anybody soon. I think you guys should start planning a phoenix club.
