Its quite funny that I look at some of the teams in L1, I would like to ground hop if given the chance. Before the takeover, I went Charlton v Pompey (2-2) and thought we were an absolute age away from playing those teams in the league. Now I get the chance to go again but with little old Wrexham. Absolutely huge clubs who have been in the prem and sitting on hard times.
We know the feeling well.
Having (just like you) had back to back promotions after our return from NL we were rewarded with an opening day trip to Elland Road. Still remember that visit as one of my most exciting away days for the Grecians.
Had briefly stopped at Annandale Services on the M74 on the way back from a work trip to Scotland the day the fixture list came out, just to check who we'd got.
My whoops of delight must have really puzzled a goodly number of local Caledonians.
Hope you (and Stockport) manage an equally exciting entry to L1.

Good to see the league one section on here is active that we don’t need to migrate to the other forum!

The L1 forum may be active but not as much as L2 and you'll find that there are barely any people here from the bigger clubs, mostly just lower to midtable clubs whose fans are all depressed and there are no characters here.

Enjoy.

Tbf Wrexham, Mansfield and Stockport do make up a large proportionate of posters on the L2 board.

Think a lot of bigger club fans just stick to their own forums. Charlton have two really active forums and on one of them you can expect hundreds, bordering on thousands at times, of posts a day in the summer just on a spurious transfer rumours thread. I joined this one this year and have enjoyed it, there's not a load of people on here but it's active enough. It's also made me get into the league a lot more which has been nice as previously I'd just watch our games and filter out everything else in the league. Now, I'm looking forward to the games tonight despite us not playing. Should be a good year next year, with the games on Sky also making the league easier to follow.

An aside on Wrexham players. From their time here Lee and O'Connell are good players at this level but you'll eventually have to transition towards better players if your aim is to go up. That being said, as others have mentioned, there's always usually a spot or two up for grabs in the playoffs outside the big clubs / relegated champ clubs. This season was a bit of a write off with how low the standard was but with some decent sides coming down and teams likely to improve, it should be a tougher league next year.

Lee can go missing in games for us over the last couple of seasons, but he singlehandedly kept us in it in the early part of the season when Mullin wasnt 100% due to his injury sustained in pre-season. he is contracted until 2025 i believe so he will be involved until then.

EOC has played on and off for us and we are better when he is in the team and is our short term replacement for Tozer, who will likely either be a bit part or may even be released.

We know not a lot of our squad is championship quality - probably 3 or 4 max at the moment, so we will need to improve

Which 4 of your squad would you currently say is championship quality? Seems a bold claim for a side coming from League 2.

i should probably reword to championship potential level

Arthur Okonkwo (if he signs permanently for us)
Max Cleworth - numerous players and pundits saying he can make the step up
Tom O'Connor - was interesting Coventry last season after we played them and is quality on the ball
George Evans - Prior to us at Millwall and could easily play that level again

other players in the team:

Paul Mullin possibly but I anticipate will be too old by time we do get there to be effective.

Andy Cannon too has been outstanding for us after settling in, had a spell at Hull for a bit prior to his spell at Stockport and us, so could step up to the same level again

Will Boyle played for Huddersfield, but make of that who you will as to why he signed for us

Will Boyle is 100% not Championship standard. When he left us we thought he may go to a mid-table League 1 team. Him turning up at Huddersfield was one of the most shocking moves I've ever seen.

And I am a huge Will Boyle fan by the way.

If Okonkwo is championship level (lol btw) most keepers in league 1 would be, pym certainly would.

Mansfield kept us in the football league one time, so they’re always welcome in my book.

We remember the bristol rovers coming for us as they reckoned we’d done it on purpose and there were city fans in the away end

Oh, we relegated the Gas at theirs one time and not only were there plenty of City fans in the away end but Swindon too, I was just like, “fuck, please don’t associate me with these people who’re trying to wind up your Stone Island posse, I’m just watching the game”…

Congratulations Mansfield!

Haven’t played Manfield in the league in ten years so I’ll try and complete my first trip to Field Mill next season. Hopefully it’s not on a Tuesday evening as it’s a stadium I’ve been wanting to do for some years now.

Tell the stewards it's your first time, they might give you a present!

Congratulations to all three who've come up, all having blinding seasons. Mansfield aren't high on my list of favoured clubs, but they've some decent folk round these parts and a few ex-Us, so that more than makes up for it.

Huzzah to all, we are all but meat for the grinder.

Great, Mansfield and their weird Brexity owner with his plastic wife.

Brexity? Where’s that come from

One of the very best owners in the country.

Lincoln have always had some odd fascination with us.

It’s finally dying off mostly, but it was very endearing when all our socials was swamped with them even after they got promoted to L1.

Pym needs to lose about 2 stone first. A good keeper though definitely. Okonkwo does have some brain farts now and again but potential wise he could go far- I think people forget he's only 22. Of course he's not our player and no guarantees he will sign for us in the summer.

I don't think any of our players are Championship level. Good enough to compete in League one but we are some way off the next level imo.

That would be a good thread in itself actually, which permanent L1 players do fans feel are Championship level.
Congrats to the promoted teams... just a shame you are all Oop North
Mansfield finally realising the only way to get out of L2 was to sign loads of ex gas players (6 there i believe!!)

Pym is not fat mate, just built like a brick shithouse. I used to wonder if he was until I spoke to him in the hospitality lounge against Swindon.

No rivalry, just a bunch of Lincolns weirdos on twitter etc stayed obsessed with us even after promotion to L1 - I just think we rubbed them up the wrong way.

More recently it’s been Walsall fans, after we refused to sell Danny Johnson to them on the cheap last season, but you’ll find the decent ones like who post on here ain’t arsed.
