Luton away 2 seasons a go, they were unbeaten in around 26 games I believe, we won 1-0 but completely bossed the game

Considering how terrible our team was that season, our 0-0 draw at Chelsea in the FA Cup in 93/94.
Also our 1-0 win against Manchester City in the League Cup in 94/95, a pity that early round ties were two-legged back then!

We were good, but Swindon got really unlucky, and the scoreline could have easily been 3-3.

From what I've seen it would be probably be the 3-0 v Nottingham Forest a few years back. Historically though our most famous victory would be beating Leeds United 3-0 in the league cup in 1975, they were reigning champions at the time and we were a 4th division side.

That I've seen Barrow 2 - 2 Southampton.

I'm confident that next season will provide the best ever performance that I'll see for the U's. Over the last 12 seasons, I've seen many great defensive performances for single goal wins (or even invaluable draws) but when we've clicked in attack as well as defence, there's usually been something about the opposition's failures that take the edge of "best ever" when I look back.

On balance, It's probably got to be one of the two play off semi-finals that led to Wembley disappointment -

Runner up U's 3-0 Satanage
Best Ever? U's 2-1 Burton (still doesn't feel right or as good as U's 2-1 Gateshead).

I'd go for another League Cup game, the second leg at home to Norwich.

Lost the first tie 2-1 at Carrow Road and then found ourselves one down just after half time. The second half performance, inspired by Sean Devine, would go down as the best that I've seen us play. One of the all-time great nights, under the lights at Underhill, we ran out 3-1 winners and 4-3 on aggregate.

Most of our memorable ones have been cup games. Our 3-0 trouncing of Rotherham at Millmoor, our first ever league scalp in 07-08, was brilliant, as was our performance in the unlucky 4-3 defeat at home to Derby in the 3rd round the following season.

In the Trophy it has to be our 4-1 win at Hereford back in 00-01 in the semi-final second leg, they thought they were through having drawn 2-2 at our place and to see the stunned looks on their faces as we tore them apart with old stagers like Tony Daley and Frankie Bennett rolling back the years was something to behold

One of the best GTFC performances I can remember was against Sheff Wed in the League Cup, they were the highest ranked team in the round, think they had finished 6th or 7th in the Prem the previous season. I I can't remember the year but after beating Wednesday we then knocked out the holders Leicester in the next round.
The game against Wednesday we won 2 - 0, and but for Kevin Pressman it could have been 10 times that, the most one sided football match I have ever seen, we were incredible that night.

It doesn't get much better than beating Everton 3-0 at goodison park with 6000 tranmere fans singing "are you chester in disguise".

We absolutely battered them and could have been more than 3. Just a shame I was only 6 years old and didn't really appreciate what had just happened.

For games I've attended, I actually think just 2 seasons ago at home to Huddersfield in the cup is up there with one of our best, managed to hold off an absolute onslaught in the first 15 minutes and then bossed the game, passing the ball around Championship players in their own half like it was nothing. Incredible show of character to score again after their equaliser but we self destructed in the last 5 minutes. I'd never been so gutted after a football match like that before, never deserved to lose.

Then there's the likes of beating Liverpool at Anfield in 2001 and Tottenham at BP in 2005. Would have to bring Les in for the real glory days.

Winning both legs of the league cup against Man City in 1996, 4-1 in the first leg at home (having been 1 down inside a minute).
Best result in years of watching the Imps a 9-0 win over Bournemouth.

There's obviously that Liverpool game and also when we beat Newcastle 1-0 at St.James Park in 1992 to stop them setting a new record for most wins at the start of the season. Also beating Middlesbrough 2-1 at Ayresome Park in the FA Cup in 1989 when they were top half Division One and we were 4th bottom of Division Four BUT for me the most total display of football I have ever seen was the 2nd half of a 3rd Round FA Cup game at Millwall in 1982.

The game had been postponed on the Saturday but luckily I was staying at my brothers in London that week so went along to the rearranged game on the Tuesday night. At half time we were 1-0 down and not playing particularly well but whatever was said in the dressing room did the trick as we came out in the 2nd half and absolutely tore them apart for the entire 45 minutes. At full time we had won 6-1 but it could easily have been double figures. I can't quite remember who scored the other 2 goals but I know that Kevin Drinkell and Bobby Cumming both scored 2. We also missed a penalty and Drinkell also missed a couple of sitters and we also hit the woodwork twice. Possibly the most complete 45 minutes of football ever from a Grimsby Town team.

Great day but they were a poor wrexham side and the game had little meaning unlike grimsby and scarborough . The most dominant performance was the 4 nil win at preston where for the last half hour we passed the ball around like leeds v southampton in the 70 s whilst their crowd got on their players back and we ' extracted the urine' singing we love you preston

In terms of enjoyment from watching Torquay there is one game that stands out - Cheltenham away in April 2004.

We won 3-1 in front of over 1000 away fans but the performance was absolutely incredible. I've often heard Pep Guardiola took his philosophy from Leroy after that year. I don't know if any Cheltenham fans will actually remember it, but it was one of the best team performances I've had the privilege of seeing live.

Most famous wins and best team performances are so different.

It would be easy to say the 6-0 Boxing Day massacre of Stockport County in 2005, but as good as we were, County were absolute turd.

2 big performances for me stand out:
Easter Monday 2004. We'd been in a relegation battle for months, and Brian Horton had recently joined as manager, taking over from current boss John Askey. Askey had brought in some pretty decent players in the previous weeks including Jon Parkin & wing back Graham "Harry" Potter, but didn't really have the experience or know how to get us winning games. In came Horton and immediately switched us to playing 3-5-2 / 5-3-2 with Matty Carragher in a sweeper role. Gave our attacking full backs more chance to do what they were good at and supported a an industrious if not overly creative midfield. Horton had overseen two wins early in his tenure away at York then at home to Orient, but it was the trip to Spotland on Bank Hol Monday which was the must-win game. A win and we would be pretty much safe, lose and we had a nightmare run in of Hull, Scunthorpe, Oxford & Bury in the last 4 games - all challenging for promotion/play-offs. We set off like a team possessed, playing Rochdale off the park, no one put a single foot wrong and it was just a matter of time before a goal. Unfortunately it came from a rare Rochdale attack and scrambled in from a corner. Not that it mattered to the 1,800 travelling Silkmen (still whilst not the most, but best away support I've been part of following Macc), the team continued to probe and attack but couldn't find a way through in the first half. Then Matty Tipton took over in the 2nd half, George Abbey rolled a ball across the ball about 15 yards out, Tippy twisted one way then the other, before rolling into the bottom corner. He wasn't finished yet though, future Nigeria international Abbey made another marauding run down the right before being dragged down in the box. Rochdale starting timewasting with men going down "injured" so Tippy just brought himself over to the touchline in front of the away fans and started doing a few kick ups and playing to the fans, before strolling back to the penalty spot and sending the keeper the wrong way. We strolled through the last 10 minutes to safely take home the 3 points to Cheshire, and pretty much confirm our safety, whilst leaving Rochdale deep in trouble 6 point adrift of us.

10th April 1999 - Our only season in the 3rd tier of English football which ultimately ended in relegation for the first time in the clubs history. Though it wasn't without a fight. After beating Gillingham, Colchester & Northampton in early March we'd given ourselves a decent chance of staying up, but then 3 losses on the bounce undid that hard work, though we should have beaten Burnley a couple of weeks previous, gifting them 2 late goals. We welcomed Preston to the Moss on the day in question, who were comfortably in the Play-off picture, but the spirit of the squad (mainly those which had come up with us from the Conference just 2 years previous) carried on battling away and a superb performance gave us a 3-2 win against one of the traditional big clubs in English football. The football we played that day was just stunning, Sammy McIlroy just wouldnt waiver from his passing style of play. Pedro Matias in midfield was a joy to watch, without doubt the most elegant and technically blessed player I've ever seen at Macc, some of his passing was out of this world and the ball which he played in for Kieron Durkan to smash home the 3rd was just ridiculous. 3 weeks later and we were relegated but it was games like this which i remember that season for.

Beating the holders Liverpool at Anfield after being 1-0 in extra time with the winner coming from a solid 35 yarder scored by an Evertonian is something I'll never ever forget.

Aaah the 10th April 1999 we lost 4-0 to Man City that day, having been promoted with you the previous season and relegated with you the following season. We got a few decent results that season late on too but it wasn't enough, at least you didn't have your chairman as manager!

A goal that I will never tire of watching. Time stood still momentarily until we realised what had actually happened. Cue pandemonium from the 7000 Mariners fans behind the goal.

My favourite Grimsby video that, when it pans to Jevons when he doesn't even know what to do with himself I smile every time. We had some bang average players in that side too and we were dreadful that season, Ben Chapman and Johnny Rowan started that game ffs! Neither of whom would get in our side even now, making that night even more unbelievable. A fair few of our players that night were playing non league by 2005, 5 of the Liverpool squad won the Champions League that year...

One of Alan Poutons finest games for us too.
