yeah probably, a bit like choosing which 9 toes you want to save at the cost of losing the other one.
Hopefully we can grow the tenth toe back. I think if Olomola plays like he did last week he could be the right kind of player for a difficult away game in testing conditions anyway

Gonna do Oldham's in a pragmatic way

Red is a significant departure

Green is a significant signing

Free unless stated

Daniel Iversen, GK (returned to Leicester from loan) - Underrated with us, will have a good career. Will be missed
Gary Woods, GK (Hamilton Academical) - Has a L1 league title and Scottish League Cup on his CV, but may have been carried by his teammates.
So Grade C- at GK

Rob Hunt, LB/RB (Swindon) - Fell sharply out of favour and hardly featured. Good, but his departure isn't felt as he wasn't really used
Andy Taylor, LB (free agent) - Has recently won a L2 promotion with Blackpool, but had a very poor season and was replaced with the loan signing of...

Alex Iacovitti, LB/CB (Nottm Forest) - Had a decent loan spell last season, now permanent. Poor in pre-season, but young
Ashley Smith-Brown, LB/RB (Plymouth, season loan) - At first glance and Plymouth reports, looks a damn good player at this level, who can go forward as well as filling his defensive duties. Reportedly much happier up north.

Grade B at LB

Zak Mills, RB/RM (Morecambe) - Player of the season with the Shrimps. Looks good going forward in particular. Gave us all sorts of problems last season. Looks like he will play further forward, maybe only in away games.
Kept hold of teenage sensation Tom Hamer too, so an A Grade at RB

George Edmundson, CB (Rangers, £700k) - Already making waves North of the border. He won't reach the level fellow former youth product James Tarkowski has, but a good young player who will be missed.
Peter Clarke, CB (Fleetwood) - Released when no Oldham fan wanted him to be. 37 but has gone straight into Fleetwood's first 11. Pfft.

David Wheater, CB (Bolton) - One of the best signings in L2. Was dominant not long ago at L1 level, so he should saunter through L2, as well as providing crucial experience and leadership.
We've been waiting for the chance to play yet another defensive youth product Jamie Stott more, and have made a shrewd signing of a young lad who last played at Championship level in Tomas Egert, so we may not miss Clarkey and Edmundson too much, who we at least got a very decent fee for... good business at centre back, but losing Clarke hurts. B

Daniel Gardner, CM (free agent) - Suffered a season-ending injury in November and was subsequently released.
Along with Lyden's loan expiring back in January, we haven't replaced either of them with a deep lying passer of the ball. We could really do with one and I suspect a loan effort will be made, but for now it's a step down at centre mid, I'll grade us a D+ til we get someone in.

Callum Lang, RM/ST (returned to Wigan from Loan) - Was a real bright spark, steadily improving all season long. Rumours persist he'll return.
Chris Eagles, RM/AM (free agent) - Clearly rusty from not playing for ages, but the talent is there. Will be a real asset on set pieces.
Along with retained Frenchman Johan Branger-Engone, and signings Mills and Fage, the possibilities wide right are quite interesting, but none provide the goal threat Lang did, so it's a C

The lads who will mainly play wide left are the exact same, Nepomuceno, one of the best left feet in the division, and Branger-Engone.

Jose Baxter, AM/ST (Plymouth) - A weird one, he never quite looked like the same player we had when he was a youngster, but sometimes showed he might be on the way back, especially under Scholes....
Dylan Fage, AM/RM (Auxerre) - One of the more eye-catching of the foreign youngsters we've brought in, he's very tricky, fast and quick footed... Very lightweight...One to watch...
As we've managed to hold on to mercurial French-Algerian playmaker Mohamed Maouche, attacking midfield is a wash. C+

Chris O'Grady, ST (Er... he's still an Oldham player) - Played more than any of our other strikers last season, and did a job. has been made persona non grata and will not feature this season. Dunno why.
Scott Wilson, ST (Macclesfield) - Double figures last season, despite often coming off the bench, for a relegation threatened team. You feel he needs a strike partner though, and our French coach may not be in to the ol' 4-4-2. Maybe at home though.
Desire Segbe Azankpo (FK Senica) - Absolutely rapid Benin international. Didn't show a whole lot in pre-season, but scored a lovely chip over the keeper on his first start in the Trophy midweek.

The thing is we've no-one who looks a constant goal threat the way Lang, and especially Surridge who went back to Bournemouth in Jan and is now at Swansea, did. I expect a loan. For now it's a D for our striker transfer dealings.

Overall, I rate our transfer window so far a C-

We'll be alright if we don't hit an iceberg, but need quality additions at the base of midfield, and especially up front, if we're to do anything at all to threaten the top end this season.

I’d say overall solid rather than spectacular. Best bit of business for my money was getting Oyeleke to stay for another couple of years.

Manny should still be a Grecian , had something tricky about him that you knew would come good but, as always , Tisdale put his favourites first regardless and poor Manny didn't get a look in......seems a little injury prone though
