Actually my lad, I'm of mixed nationality, my father is English and my mother Welsh. I also live right on the border, and for years I cheered on all the home countries. The reason I have turned off from England isn't due to me hating England per se, it's more the English FA and their ridiculous politics and fingers in to many pots. I'm here because I love football , and I have an equal joy of good banter. It's not my fault that you seem to have a sense of humour failure. Good effort shouting me down though.
I haven't been called 'my lad', apart from by my dear old dad, for a very long time.
That anti English bile comes across as extremely bitter TBH and it's totally unnecessary. No doubt yourself and most of Wales, plus the Scots will be supporting 'whoever England are playing' ,as usual, even though England have done appreciably better than their nations, as usual.
Bear in mind I wasn't born in England but never have and still don't understand the bitterness towards them, it reeks of jealousy.
By the by, Ross on Wye is a very nice part of the world and I would imagine it's a nice place to live. I used to go water skiing near there in my younger days and spent many a nice summers afternoon / evening in the hostelries near the river.

You seem to have ignored what I wrote. I told you I'm part English, and cheer England on in any other sport. My issue is with the corrupt FA. I went to the national powerlifting meet and represented England at university level. Also I no longer live in ross on wye but closer to monmouth, both places are beautiful tbf.

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
The World Cup will be a nice change and footballing palate cleanser. Not expecting massive things from England but hopefully we'll win a couple of games. And aside from them, World Cups are just great to enjoy as a spectacle (even if sometimes the quality of games is questionable!). Will do what I can to get away with watching as much of it as my work and my misses will allow.

I'll get my tent and camping gear out and go spend some odd weekends in a Dorset field somewhere, armed with a bbq and a box of cider. There's something about being in the middle of nowhere with a book, no technology (and being slightly pissed most of the time) that I find very relaxing.

Otherwise just working, and working through a list of stuff to do around the flat. Yay.

I did take your point Ben and do agree about the FA FWIW. What can be done about it I don't know but they are certainly 'all powerful' nowadays and open to corruption.
Monmouth is indeed a very pretty place and somewhere I pass through quite regularly as part of my job. The countryside north of Monmouth can be stunning in all honesty. I regularly spend time up in your part of the world and try to coincide it with my regular trips to Manchester as the drive up through mid Wales is absolutely gorgeous and one I would thoroughly recommend.

Yes it's a nice area to visit, but being under 40 with a family it can be like a backwater. Having to travel to gloucester or cardiff to do a decent shopping trip.

To be fair, I don't think many of us really have great expectations of England's WC chances. I've never known such apathy TBH.
No doubt the media will build it up and 'we're gonna win the World cup' but nobody will fall for it this time.
Germany to win it, again.

I usually find the media pedal the "building for the next one" agenda every tournament

Don't know if you gamble but you can always clear up on betting on England lose in the World Cup. Since everyone backs England (apparently it's patriotic to do so) you can usually get very good odds on our opposition. I remember in 2014 Uruguay were 2/1 to beat us, which is practically giving money away.

Surfing, kayaking & mountain-biking in The Algarve. And six days in Lisbon/Sintra. Hoping to do Mercantia festival again if I can find a cheap, connecting flight to Florence.
