We lost 1-0 at Tranmere as we challenged for the play offs in League One, Ian Hume with a latish winner, I recall as the trains were a mess and was stuck on a train trying to find out how we were doing in the Rugby!
We finished eighth that season under Brian Little, after a poor start had cost Ray Mathias his job, and reached the Quarter Final of the FA Cup for the third time in five years.

We finished third the following season and would have gone back up to the Championship automatically if it had not been for Luton's financial shenanigans.

We were a top half League One side until 2009, when our slow slide to oblivion began.

Lost 1-0 away at Stoke City int Championship.

Starting line-up:

GK: Alan Coombe

RB: Gareth Edds
CB: Peter Atherton
CB: Mark Bower
LB: Paul Heckingbottom

RM: Simon Francis
CM: Fraser McHugh
CM: Jason Gavin
LW: Nicky Summerbee

ST: Andy Gray
ST: Michael Branch

No wonder we went down, look at the state of that squad. :D

That was a terrible side and would have struggled in the 4th tier!. Who the hell was Frazer McHugh?, totally wiped from my memory bank

A fantastic 0-0 draw at home with Derby County.

Great season though, a few months later we made the FA Cup final. Sadly our league form fucked off after the Semi Final win, and we fell out of the playoffs in the last month or so.

Well I had a day and a half. I was due on a plane at midday to go to New York. Woke up late, rushed liked mental from one side of London to the other and literally just made check in. Well I thought I had but in my rush, including running through the terminal like a madman I'd missed some security types shouting at me, when they caught up with me I was ushered to a side room before being strip searched and having my case literally dismantled.
I did make the flight, after much apologising from them and a few upgrades which was nice. Caught the end of the rugby in a bar in Heathrow and the more pleasing sight of a 4-0 win against Rochdale later in New York.

This was the season of the start of the Tilson miracle. We looked doomed stuck at the bottom of the table, he came in, saved us comfortably, got to the final of the LDV Trophy at Cardiff and we didn't look back.
Another highlight of this season was our 3-2 win at Swansea, when with 8 men we scored to make it 3-1, I've still never found another game where a team has scored and gone on to win with 8 men in English professional football.

Oh and I was at the Millwall FA Cup semi-final at Old Trafford with my father-in-law, scenes that day.

Single best day ever as a Millwall fan, and I was there for our First Division years. The Final was a letdown in every way by comparison (Cardiff isn't Manchester, MillStad isn't Old Trafford, Man Utd fans are shit compared to Sunderland's).

We drew 1-1 at home to Oldham in the old Division 2 (League One now). I didn’t go looking at the Groundhopper app, but was sandwiched either side of 1-0 defeat away at Blackpool and 0-0 draw at Hillsborough which I was at. Must have been one of my first seasons following us away from home

One of only three NWCL First Division games played on the 22nd of November as it was FA Vase day and they'd already been knocked out.

They were beaten 2-0 at Atherton Laburnum Rovers; the 'Port Vale' to Atherton Collieries' 'Stoke City'.
Not a bad result for them then.

We won 3-0 at home against Wooton Blue Cross in the FA Vase. That was during our record breaking 78 unbeaten League run.

Re. the U's, I had to look it up and we heavily beaten (0-4) at Scunny. I don't remember watching us get beat by that scoreline at GP so I don't think I was at the game.
I wasn’t there either, I’d hit a period of relative disinterest as I was at uni down in Canterbury which is a bastard for getting anywhere on no
money. Anyway our side was as follows, copied and pasted from 11v 11 so shit format (and interesting use of two left backs apparently....), apologies.

GoalkeeperShaun Marshall
DefenderStev Angus
DefenderAdam Tann
Defender/Centre backAndy Duncan
Defender/Left backStuart Bimson
Defender/Left backFred Murray
MidfielderTerry Fleming
MidfielderLuke Guttridge
MidfielderShane Tudor
ForwardDave Kitson
ForwardGareth Williams

I don’t remember Gareth Williams - who was he? The others are all memorable for good or bad reasons. Kitson probably scored 60 goals or something that season.

The ginger ninja. We had him on loan from Crystal Palace and he was brilliant, such a good finisher. Couldn't stop scoring during his loan spell, then we swapped him with Wayne Andrews and he was never quite up to it when he signed permanently.

He was reasonably short and always looked like he'd struggle a bit with his weight if he wasn't too careful.

Me neither Laker. Only thing I'm sure of is that he was not our player, so he must've been one of about a hundred loanees we had back in 2003-05. And if he was here in November of 2003 then the I suspect the reason was that he was only here so that Taylor wouldn't have to put his boots back on, which of course he eventually did anyway when Kitson was sold.

Tbh, there's only a handful things I clearly remember about those dark days - Taylor being forced to play again and eventually getting the sack, the great Dave Kitson and the number of times he single-handedly won us games, my being a fan of both the home and away kits, and the first whispers of unrest in the boardroom and the mess that the finances were in*

*though that could've been earlier, like the tail end of 2001 or early 2002?

I was there that day with a United supporting mate and his dad.

Millwall were battered on the pitch and off it, loads of United fans were ticketless, watched it around the ground and loads of Milwall copped it. There were loads of day trippers who went to watch it for Millwall so some of it was probably uncalled for but I remember as young lad thinking Millwall were supposed to be feared and it was just a load of knobheads in Blue curly wigs.
