I thought Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu had a good game for Luton yesterday. He was seeing a lot of the ball in the second half and our midfield were struggling to get close to him.

Pelly's had a good start to the season and has found his role in the team after a somewhat indifferent 2016/7. I thought Angol caused us no end of problems with his pace and movement, although I did feel he got a bit too much protection from the ref. He certainly took his goal well. A former youth player of ours. Surprised Peterborough let him go. Their loss your gain as he has the potential to do well at a higher level.

Akinfenwa, the type of striker lower league clubs need, wins everything in the air and just hard for defenders at this level to deal with.

Great in defence too winning everything at the back from set pieces

I think Russell Slade is currently our oppositions best player.

Colchester reserves looked an awesome team. Ripped us to shreds.

Be honest what teams fans in League 2 wouldn't want The Beast in their side? 18 goals last season and 4 already in 4 League games this season. I thought it was a ridiculous signing but thankfully he's proved that i know bugger all. :woo:

If your defenders can't deal with Akinfenwa then you need new defenders. Jake Wright never had an easier Saturday afternoon.

A couple of seasons ago we played Wimbledon at home who had Beast and Tubbs up front. Edinburgh's ploy was for our CBs to not jump against Beast and instead put 2 defenders on Tubbs to pick up the knock downs and flicks. Akinfenwa didn't capitalise on this fully and it took him most of the game to realise. Tubbs didn't get a look in and we put 4 in at the other end. Beast scored in the end though.

To revive this as I like the idea of this thread, thought Bostwick was absolutely brilliant for Lincoln today, won pretty much all the second balls he was able too and was a constant menace in that midfield hassling and harrying.

Didn't create that much but wasn't that sort of game really. Made life really very difficult for Ruddock today.

Also Farmans absolutely massive kick deserves a mention. Not often teams have a keeper who is also that impactful in an attacking sense!

Yep, good thread, Stringy.

Cuthbert and McCormick were superb today. Noticeable how valuable the latter was because when he went off, we were finding much more space through the middle.

Thought your 'keeper was very good with his distribution to just keep dropping the ball at the wing backs feet in wide areas most of the time.

He lost his way a little bit with his kicking at the end of the game, the free kick he punted into touch as the final whistle blew was one of the worst kicks I've seen from a keeper I think!

I thought Lee Angol was pretty good for Mansfield today, quite a physical presence up front. As much as I detested his petulance and kicking and elbowing, if he were doing that for us I'd keep schtum. Also we probably wound him up I doubt he is that bad every game, or he'd be getting five or six red cards per season.

Mostly fat and useless, although there was one excellent moment where he had the ball at his feet and one of our midfielders (I think Berry) tried to tackle him and more or less literally bounced off him, ending up on his arse a yard away while Read carried on ambling slowly forward like a Walking Dead extra.

Had that happened with the referee we had today, you'd have got a free kick for that.

He stood out for me too, big and strong, though didn't get any goalscoring opportunities.

Thought Wycombe played fairly well today, especially first half and will consider themselves unfortunate to take nothing, were worthy of at least a point and probably more. Think they ran out of steam at the end, as they seem to have a very old squad from the looks of things!

Thought the 2 stand outs where 2 ex players of ours, Harriman did well to exploit the space out wide and put in a lovely ball for Akinfenwa to gobble up as he does, and then I think CMS had a typical CMS game, lots of industry and hard work running the channels. Still think his scoring days are well and truly behind him mind.

Thought Hayden White had a good game for Mansfield today. Very solid at the back and ran the length of the field to produce the assist for their winner. No one else really stood out, although Angus MacDonald had a bit of quality on the wing.

Michael Bostwick was having a good game, getting in plenty of tackles and switching play to either side. I didn't realise it was him either with his new Jon Snow look, so must not be a case of his reputation influencing my view.

Jodi Jones for Coventry was absolute mustard yesterday - everything good that they created came from him, and once our speedy fullback was subbed at half-time with a hamstring we were in real trouble.

Way too good for League two, and apparently not even twenty yet...

Mark Robins is a bit of a whiney git though - the U's sneaked a 2-1 win to be fair, but Coventry weren't really any better than us over the game as a whole, draw probably being fair, it's just they put us under the cosh for the first five and last fifteen minutes. Bloody good defending from us though...

I agree that Jodi Jones, unsurprisingly, stood out. We were warned, knew what he was going to do, but he had the speed and skill to do it anyway.

Duckens (?) Nazon was the enigma. With the prematch banter and Coventry's modest "goals for" record, I wasn't expecting a forward of his speed, strength, ability to find space and shooting accuracy. He demonstrated all 4, especially in the first half. Yet his attitude contributed to our resilience in the second half. Coventry definitely had us under the cosh at 1 - 1 and I said to my mate I'd take a draw now. However, he seemed to have switched to time wasting hold on for a draw mode - including on at least 3 occasions kicking the ball away to waste time, getting a booking for the final one.

Akinfenwa is a bloody tank and his physical presence caused no end of problems as refected in their goal. Fortunately for us he can't play 90 minutes and when he went off you could almost see the relief in our defence. We then started to focus more on attack. Agree about CMS. Skillfull full of running but has lost his goalscoring touch.

Jodi Jones. Best player in the league and will tear most left backs a new one every Saturday.
