You are sort of right - Ipswich were Champions of Div 2 in 1960 and Div 1 in 1961. However - I have just checked our club history and what it actually says is we are the only side to have been promoted as champions in two consecutive years

I guess my pathetic get out is going to have to be that Ipswich weren't promoted from Div 1. The was nowhere to promote them to.

Thanks for increasing my knowledge. I won't get the wording wrong if I use that fact again.

We were promoted as champions from the Conference in 89/90 and from Div 4 in 90/91. Happier days.

Best side I've seen down here ( Div 3 ) were the QPR side 1965/66. Won the league that season and went on to win the league cup the next.

Brighton won division 3 in 2001 then division 2 a year later.

For me, the Millwall 2000-01 side stand out. Neil Harris, Tim Cahill, Lucas Neil... Was a fantastic team and our victory over them at the gate seemed like a real scalp.

The Swindon team that battered the Fourth division in 1985-86 left an impression on me at a young age. Lou Macari was their manager and I'm sure they topped 100+ pts by being big and relentless with Dave Bamber bagging the goals.

.

You are right as well and I am wrong again. Back to the club history to find out why I have got this wrong and guess what. It wasn't the club history I was reading but an adulation of great managers which gives us another proviso which I had ignored.

It says "He (Jim Smith) is the only manager to have achieved successive promotions as champions with the same club". Apparently the other clubs changed managers.

Still - I won't be quoting that fact again. Too much aggro..

Apologies to those I maligned.

The fulham and Wigan teams of 1996/7 were not as good as people remember, they got a lot stronger after leaving L2, I only know as Carlisle were the 3rd side promoted that season

I think the Fulham side under Keegan set the record for home points when it got promoted out of L1 but I never seen that side to comment.

The Hull side that won L2 in 2003/04 was pretty decent. They were new to the KC Stadium and a few went all the way to the top with them.

Yeah that was a very strong team. They went straight through League One at the first attempt in 04/05... only as runners up though ;)

Premier League - Arsenal Invincibles 2003-04 a season undefeated.
Championship - Reading 2005-06, the greatest Football League side of all time
League One - Brighton 2010-11 (I can't say Crewe 2002-03) played some beautiful football, most notably wasted Charlton 4-0 at the Withdean in style.
League Two - Chesterfield 2010-11, if I was old enough to remember that Plymouth side it'd have been them, but that Chesterfield side were insanely good at home, wobbled a bit towards the end of the season but their 5-0 demolition of Rotherham on Sky was one of the best performances I've ever seen.
Conference - Wrexham 2011-12, the only non-winner on the list but 98 points and failed to go up. Played great football and were shafted by those wankers Fl££twood.

Honourable mentions
Prem - Chelsea's 95 point season, Liverpool 2013-14 who played the best attacking football I've ever seen which deserved a league title.
Championship - Man City 2001-02, Norwich 2003-04, Sunderland 2004-05, 2006-07; Bristol City 2007-08; Blackpool 2009-10; Nottingham Forest 2009-10; Watford 2012-13 Leicester 2013-14; Bournemouth 2014-15 so many good sides in recent years!
League One - Bristol City 2002-03; Plymouth 2003-04, Scunthorpe 2006-07, Yeovil 2006-07 (greatest playoff performance of all time) Swansea 2007-08; Norwich 2009-10, Leeds 2009-10; Millwall 2009-10; Swindon 2009-10; Charlton 2011-12, Bristol City 2014-15.
League Two - Wrexham 2002-03; Carlisle 2005-06; Walsall 2006-07; Rochdale 2009-10; Dagenham 2009-10; Shrewsbury 2011-12; Gillingham 2012-13, Burton 2014-15
Conference - Stevenage 2009-10; Kidderminster 2012-13; Luton 2013-14;

There were a few good teams in L2 in 06/07.

MK Dons, Posh, Swindon, Walsall, Lincoln, Hartlepool.

I am pretty 100% sure that Arsenal side winds up Mourinho for the entire time he's been in England. He's always very spiteful at Arsenal or Wenger any time he can and I just sensed it really annoyed him last season that he thought he had an 'unbeatables' at one stage and it failed.

surprised Wenger doesn't use it to rile Mourinho up more.

Doubt he is that bothered to be honest. The season immediately after the Invincibles achievement, Mourinho's first Chelsea team pissed the league with 95 points (5 more than the Invincibles team managed) and a goal difference of +57 (compared to +47 for the Invincibles).

We smashed it in 1982/83 with 98 points and 96 goals. That side had far from peaked and the core of it stayed together and got promoted to Division One four years later.

None of the teams mentioned had Andy Saville up front, therefore they don't count.
