Masi revising his prediction every Saturday has reminded me of our connie years and Alan Alger, the so called NL footy expert. Got to say I never did pay any attention to the chap's opinion as he used to do exactly the same thing that Masi is doing now. He used to check out the match results, have a little look at the standings and then change his mind accordingly.

It's amazing we're not bottom.

Funnily enough, 5 of our 8 defeats have come against teams in the bottom 9.
 We actually played pretty good that night too.

Think the current top 8 will be those who finish in the top 8, nobody else is decent enough or consistent enough. I'm sure the likes of Grimsby, Tranmere, Swindon and Oldham all like to think they have a chance and are full of optimism, and who can blame them? But realistically they haven't got a chance.

We've played most of the top teams twice now (Bury, MK, Lincoln, Tranmere, Carlisle(?) so have a relatively easy run in compared to others around us as well.

MK dons will be fourth. We'll be fifth. Forest sixth and a lucky Tranmere secure 7th on goal difference on the last day of the season.

Tranmere seem confident then disappear when it gets serious probably realise they're over performing at the moment and are a lower mid table side without Norwood.

Harrogate have got 21 points from the last 10 games, how much of an upturn in form are you expecting?
More...if you want to make playoffs that trajectory isn't enough. That form till the end of the season gets you 73.2 points, if all things are equal you finish 9th

Not us.

I did warn carver a collapse could happen when he was prematurely jizzing his blue load everywhere in December/January. Players were playing well but we’ve gone from looking like the best in the league to looking like one of the worst teams in the league. That could change back obviously but I think given our hectic schedule top 7 would be a big ask now.

Its Saturday night.......Some changes to the top 7

1 FGR
2 Cheltenham
3Bolton
4Exeter
5Tranmere
6 Newport
7 Cambridge
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Will make a bold prediction.....That top 7 will be the top 7 come May, not in that order, but that is the promotion and play offs will come from the above

How many games does a team have to win in a row to make the Masi confident top 7 prediction? Could Barrow maybe go in there?
not a chance of Barrow......would love to see Carlisle make it, but despite a cracking result today....you simply have too many games in such a short period.
Really showed on us today and no doubt Bradford.

Hey theres every chance i may include you next week..........Dont forget my predictions mean jack shit

The players' focus at the moment shouldn't be getting into the playoffs, one step at the time, focus on getting into Masi's weekly top 7 and take it from there :)

Predicted top half after today using short, mid and long term form

1 Cheltenham 85.3
2 FGR 82.7
3 Tranmere 82.5

4 Bolton 79
5 Cambridge 78
6 Newport 75.9
7 Exeter 74.3

8 Morcambe 73.6
9 Crawley 70.4
10 Bradford 68.8
11 Salford 68.3
12 Carlisle 65.3

Todays musings
Cheltenham showed champions grit to see off Exeter and remain on course for the title and have a decent projected buffer to 4th spot. Win every game they are champions. Cheltenham vs Tranmere could be the crunch game to decide who wins the league.
FGR got over the line against Harrogate to solidify their spot in the projected top 3. The defeat for Harrogate I believe ends their hopes of making the playoffs, they would probably need 9 wins from 11 games to get there.
Tranmere had a day off but the top boys generally swept the non-challengers aside so it's imperative they beat Grimsby midweek to maintain the status quo. Win every game and it doesn't matter what anyone else does Tranmere will be champions.

Bolton have gone from chasing the playoffs to now looking a solid bet for top 7. They also have put themselves in a position to swoop should Tranmere, Cheltenham or FGR have a wobble.
Cambridge did well to win and again look to have a lock on a playoff spot and like Bolton be in a position to swoop on any wobbles of the teams above them.
Newport are back in the mix. If they can avoid any wobbles they are on course for a PO spot, top 3 does look beyond them though.
Exeter remain in the PO race but their hopes of top 3 probably ended with todays defeat to Cheltenham.

Morecambe who have looked the grittiest team just drop out of the PO mix, its still in their hands but they can't afford a cold run of form.
Crawley are back in the mix again if they can continue their recent revival 7th spot could still be achievable.
Bradford have had a dip at the wrong time after a fantastic run to get back in the playoff race. By no means out of it they need to find a run of wins before the margins get too great.
Salford get back to league action this week having claimed last seasons Pizza cup earlier. They have their work cut out but they don't have any cup distractions now.
Carlisle finally picked up a win and while they have games in hand they need to find their early season form to feature as they still look a mile off the promotion picture.
Harrogate need 9 wins from their last 11 games so they are RIP now I think

Someone on our forum reckons our current manager's record, if extrapolated over 32 games (cos we've played 32) would've put us top on PPG - five wins and three defeats in 8 games.

Maths might be slightly off, but it's ridiculous how he's managed to turn it around pretty much by keeping things simple.

I dont have to look at the long term short term stats to come up with exactly the top 3 teams for promotion though i had fgr as champions........Had the same 4 for the play offs........took me all of 10 seconds thought to come up with those teams which i expect most would agree on here

To be fair, Barrow should have been top under David Dunn, so it’s no surprise to read that they should be top under Rob Kelly.

If only we'd combined Dunn's flowing football with Kelly's tactical nous, we'd be pissing this tinpot league.

Bookies have it;

Cheltenham
Forest green
Tranmere

Exeter
Bolton
Cambridge
Newport

Morecambe
Salford
Carlisle
Bradford
Crawley
Harrogate

Exeter need 4 from their games in hand to be level with us, which is effectively ahead given the gd. Probably why they have a slight edge on us in the odds.

We're going to have to outscore a few on points. As the teams above us, only Tranmere are within 5 goals.

What they ought to do is issue some sort of table ranking the teams by the number of points they've accrued then we wouldn't need all these statto efforts.

Somebody on our forum has mentioned that FGR v Tranmere, the penultimate game of season for both clubs, could well be a defining game for both teams.
A title decider :2thumb: or match where one or other loses an auto promotion spot.

Over the past few years our two teams have been involved in more than one high profile 'end of season' game and the prospects of this being same look HIGH.

FGR v Tranmere has a short life-line but they've met in two promotion play-offs.
I think after Cheltenham, Tranmere is the team most FGR fans look forward to meeting.
