Quietly satisifed. We needed to start turning the draws into wins and keeping more clean sheets which is what we've started to do over the last few games. Also quite happy with my tenner each way on Padraig Amond at 25/1 at the start of the season to be top goalscorer.

If we could play away every week we'd probably be in the playoffs, although if we had to play at home every week we'd probably be in the relegation zone.

We also have a pretty dreadful record against the top teams (I think we've only beaten Braintree out of the top half this season), but our form against those around/below us has been pretty good (other than Kidderminster away a couple of weeks ago).

From the above, you wont be suprised to know we are pretty much halfway between the playoffs and the bottom 4 in terms of points. We're in a bad spell of form but we've been inconsistent all season - other than (hopefully) a decent run in the trophy our season is effectively over to be honest!

EDIT - I just noticed that we have already played 9 of the top 12 at home this season, and we won the other 3 against Altrincham, Welling and Halifax, so maybe at the end of the season our home record will look a bit better!

We look less like top five candidates every game and Brabin seems to be more and more delusional each week. Thank fuck we've got a few points on the board up to now or I'd be worried about a third successive relegation.

Mid-table obscurity is the best we can hope for unless there's a sharp up-turn in form. i don't see that coming.

Top by 7 points and you give it 8/10!!
You southerners are so hard to please! ;)

Well, Maidstone lost their game in hand. 7 points ahead and it's a level playing field, with Oxford 8 behind having played a game more. Can push it up to 8.5 now, I suppose!

At least one place higher than I expected us to be especially with so many injuries :2thumb:

That wager could go nicely towards a League 2 season ticket next season. I'm a little disappointed, emphasis on a little, I had hoped with a stronger squad we would kick on and cut out the sloppy leakage of points - develop more of a killer instinct in tight games. Hurst made a big error IMHO with the keeper situation at the start of the season IMHO. After Jimmy Mac contracted meningitis he should have got in a loan keeper for pre-season and to stay with the team in the early part of the season. Jimmy Mac looked short on confidence and defence looked jittery. Despite us generally dominating possession, sloppy goals cost us quite a few points. Credit must go to PH for putting together a squad that looks strong in all areas, he now needs to deliver promotion. We have been down here for a third of my youngest sons life. At the equivalent age I listening to the Stranglers, the Pistols, SLF, the Clash, the Undertones and at this time of year, John Peel's festive 50, whilst watching a team full of home grown talent, plus a certain Joe Waters. They were about to embark on an incredible rise that saw crowds average 10-11k and many bigger clubs, Everton and Chelsea included, getting their noses bloodied at Blundell Park. I was thoroughly spoilt I guess...

Evertons nosebleed must have been pretty heavy then if the blood ran all the way from Goodison to Blundell Park..... ;)

We beat them at BP and at Goodison just a few years apart. (Yes, that is Blundell Park)

We beat them 2-1 in The League Cup at BP with 2 Mike Brolly goals after Brian Kidd had put Everton in front and then won 1-0 in the same competition in the pouring rain in 1984 with a last minute header from Paul Wilkinson, having been battered for the previous 89 minutes. That is still the most one sided game I have ever seen where the team on top lost. Nigel Batch and our back four (Chris Nicholl in particular) were immense that evening.

I can certainly relate to Limerick Mariners reminiscing, think we must be of a similar age. Oh, and you forgot one of the best bands around at the time, The Skids.

Ahh my dad has told me the stories of the 1-0 win at Goodison, but never mentioned beating them at home.
Thats what i get for trying to be a smartarse lol.
He said the same, got murdered for 89 mins then Wilkinsons header.
Think my dad had a beer or two that night!

Bored of this season, not going up and not going down. Home performances diabolical and away isn't much better.
Hopes for the season: do the double over Woking over Christmas then get the rest of the season out of the way and shift a lot of the deadwood in this squad (e.g Hatton, Barnes-Homer etc) and hope Barry can put a decent squad together for next season.
