It's a closed league. Pro/rel would not work in the current financial state of the league. There is already iffy support for some teams and, if they were to be relegated to a lower division, they would most likely fold.

The MLS has been very active on expansion teams though.

And don't you worry, SKC is going no where.

The latter. They also have the weird draft system that other American sports have. Try the MLS on FM if you want to know what the hell is going on is my advice... I got confused and gave up, but many learn that way.

Yeah no one really gives a fuck about the draft lol

WHAT???
No last day scenario when multiple clubs can still go down? That's a bit boring isn't it?

It definitely doesn't have the appeal of desperate teams fighting to stay alive.

If you like Dortmund you'll love St Pauli:box:

Great video! I'll definitely look into them more (:

Yeah, I'm lucky she brought me!

We really want to go to a dortmund game. It would be an amazing experience, though I wouldn't want that all the time. I know people substitute 'intimate' with 'small' but I really do enjoy that close-to-the-pitch feel with 19,000 other people. I've been to NFL games and don't really feel like a community when there's 70,000 other people there.

That's one of the things people in the states have a hard problem with! They only look at points on the board as opposed to chances created and amazing saves. Sure there are dull 0-0 draws, but some of those games are also the most excited because of the amazing passing and tactics used and reflex saves made.

And it's Sporting Kansas City Till I Die!

Hi KC, nice to meet you.

I can kinda relate to you coming to football from NFL and noticing the difference.

I was brought up in a Rugby Union environment (my father played for Blackheath RFC) and I never thought I'd enjoy football, but found that I do. I see your point about the "points on the board" mentality. In sports where the score - and indeed, the lead - can shift frequently, it seems that a game where scoring is difficult can be quite dull but I found that isn't so.

Rather, the scoring of a goal is so important that when it happens the excitement is all the greater for it. In a tense match, with two very equally matched teams, both sets of players and fans instinctively know the importance of a goal. A single strike may win the game, or it may inspire a comeback by the opposition. But as the tension builds, so that first goal becomes more and more vital. That's a part of the "hook" of football. That's what grabs you and keeps you glued to the action on the pitch. You don't want to miss that moment when it comes and when it does, the release of all that pent-up excitement and anticipation just explodes.

Of course, all sports have their own merits and I love my rugby very much, but that doesn't mean I can't love football too. Greedy, aren't I..? :bg:

I hope you enjoy your footie.

Best wishes.

why should I ask?

And why didn't they implement it? This system has no tradition in Europe. In German Icehockey we implemented this system once, the same as in the NHL. Big fault.
Because you asked what SKCTID stood for you silly unabsteiger!

They didn't implement because the clubs went ape shit when the league wanted to reduce the relegated/promoted teams from 3 to 2.

I think our new American resident is enjoying the current season. Kansas are currently top of the Western Conference.
One thing I always wondered, SKC, how is it financially possible to do away games with your sides? Given that you need to take long trips to the other side of the country, you'd need to be a very rich man to be able to do all away games...

Yeah, what SKCTID stands for but why should I ask for what an abbreviation of a french league stands for? :D (SCNR)

Nothing wrong with being 'greedy' CP. I love most sports (see profile), hence the number of different teams I support/follow.

Not so much in to RU, though I do watch the Cherry and Whites on a social basis, about twice a season.

I'm absolutely enjoying the season! Hopefully this one leads to the cup! I don't know if you all are familiar with the mls structure, but we have a playoff system to determine who gets the cup. The past three seasons we have had very good campaigns but have been knocked out of the first round in the playoffs.

As for supporting away games, I can only speak for my club, but our Ultras have a bus that we drove to games that are within eight hours of us and our club gives away up to 200 tickets to every away game. So while it's expensive to try to see them play LA, DC, or Orlando as they all require planes (and the flights to different states is way more expensive than your European model), it only costs a minimum of $30 to see them play Dallas, Chicago, and Minnesota.

We also have a Sporting KC owned bar downtown called No Other Pub that holds watch parties for every away game. So there's always a way to feel connected to our club!

We get MLS over here on Satellite TV. I have to say that some of the celebrations are quite something. Portland Timbers have a guy - Timber Joey - with a chainsaw and a huge log behind one goal and whenever the team score, he saws a section off the log which apparently, is then presented to the goalscorer at the end of the match. That has to be unique, not to mention rather spectacular..!! I can't being to imagine the panic it would set off among stewards here if somebody turned up at an English stadium packing a chainsaw.

30 bucks to see a top flight match is pretty good value, I'd say. At current exchange rates that comes out at around £23. Prices at, say, Chelsea this season have ranged from £36 ($46) to £87 ($111) depending on the competition and opposition. I gotta say, KC, you've got a good thing going over there..!!

Fuck the Timbers.

But yeah, we have season tickets and for two of them in the supporters section we paid about $900. Seats in the sitting sections around the pitch range from $50- $150. And we have free parking which is a huge deal when compared to other American sports.

We used to be called the Wizards and played in our NFL stadium. We were close to folding but then we got a new president and owner, they switch to the Sporting KC brand and moved us to our own venue and it's been going strong ever since.
