Ha ha! An innocuous turn of phrase I admittedly lazily let slip in expertly picked out there.

Owt of value to add in response to the bigger picture I spent my time describing, or are we just doing semantics?

Could you honestly say you think they'd have come anywhere near close to holding the tournament has they not bribed corrupt FIFA officials?

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
It doesn't actually bother me that Qatar won the rights to host the tournament. They could hold it in San Marino for all I care. What I can't accept however, is that the bidding process was based on the event being a Summer tournament.

Had they stated their desire to hold it in the winter before the votes were cast, I suspect we may well have had a different outcome.

The main difference being that the brown envelopes of cash would have been half an inch thicker.

FIFA have just confirmed that the final will be held on 18th December.

Not that this has caught us all off guard or anything.

Will be interesting to see individual Country's response to this.

Time for the players and officials involved to do some late Christmas shopping then...

I have a question, why are so many people pissed off that a country with no football history is hosting the World Cup?

I see it as a good thing that the World Cup is being awarded to other countries that don't have a footballing history. It's a good thing to promote the game worldwide and give more nations a chance to be a part in the biggest competition in the world.

I honestly don't mind. All I'm asking is to host it in a bigger piece of land than Corsica. I'd love FIFA to give it to China or India for instance.

China or India will be great World Cup hosts. But having a small country host the World Cup is a good thing because transportation would be easier and you would be able to attend a couple of matches a day. FIFA are one of the most corrupt organizations in the world there's no doubt about it, but I think that Qatar have the means and wealth to host a decent enough World Cup.

What happens to all the stadiums once the competition finishes, though?

Same as most stadiums built for the occasion: they rot and die. Was at a Salzburg game last weekend and the stadium is far too big for the league games but was expanded for Euro 2008. Many worse cases with South Africa and Brazil I would believe...

Wasn't there plans to take apart a couple of the stadiums and take them to Africa?

If 'plans' is a euphemism for 'made up bollocks to try and make the bid sound legitimate' then quite possibly, yes.

What does this mean for the other leagues in England? Will Championship and below continue seasons as normal or will all leagues have the break regardless of losing players or not?

Any chance of it getting moved if even Blatter gets charged with corruption?

I believe the other leagues will adapt to the FIFA World Cup calendar and give a break to their players. Only postponed games will perhaps be played if enough players are available at the time.
