Sorry but felt this deserved it's own thread. Wolves are on the verge of being taken over by not only one of the richest men in football, but one of wealthiest men on the planet.

Robin Li, worth an estimated 14 billion £ (in comparison, Roman Abramovic is worth about half of that) is due to take over the club within the next couple of weeks. Julen Lopetegui is due to take over from Kenny Jackett in the near future, whilst Jorge Mendes (the agent of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho) is in the centre of talks to help broker the deal. Players of the calibre of Vincent Aboubakar and Steven Defour have been linked with the club in recent days

As a result, our odds of winning the league have been slashed from 40/1 to around 8/1 within a couple of hours this afternoon

Good times are upon us!

Now that would be one hell of a takeover, it almost sounds too good to be true.

We have a little deal in place with Jorge Mendes regarding his scouting company .

Likewise. Glad Moxey's gone, exciting times ahead for Wolves potentially.

He's 62nd on this list which seems more updated.

However because he has all this money though doesn't mean he will invest much of it into Wolves. I just hope we don't turn into a sell out club like Man City. If he tries changing our name to the 'Wolverhampton Wolves' or something i'm off to support non-league Leamington or Racing Club Warwick.

Inigo Idiakez (blast from the past at Derby) set to be named as assistant manager too.

But when you're as rich as he is, a figure like 20 million a drop in the ocean for him is absolutely huge for Wolves in their current position. I'd just count yourself lucky he's seemingly picked your club. I know if I was a multi billionaire looking for a prospective Championship club to takeover, I'd be off to test Cellino's resolve at Leeds before looking anywhere else. But very exciting times ahead for Wolves providing it goes through and they actually get the investment. I'd be struggling to contain myself if I were a Wolves fan!

Feels like a number of rich prospective owners are seeing the Premier League money and wanting a slice. But with most Premier League clubs not for sale, their second option is to takeover a Championship club and try to get them up. Chansiri at Sheff Wed, Tony Xia at Villa and now Robin Li at Wolves. Obviously has it's pitfalls with it being such a hard league to get out of but worth it in the long term if successful.

I've always thought of Wolves as being the most marketable in English football, the colours, the distinct badge and of course the name 'Wolves' would have a great global appeal. The purchase will also be very simple for someone who wants it: no debts, long term ground lease and an owner who wants out. I'm surprised its took this long for a big money owner to be interested in the club to be honest.

The last year has been as bad as I've seen in my lifetime at Wolves. Not because of what happened on the pitch (although it was crap) but because of the uncertainty off the pitch.

We went into the season full of optimism, finishing the previous season very strongly and only missing out on the playoffs on goal difference. We had a very strong group of players for this level and a decent management team higher up. Within 6 months we sold our 3 best players of last season (Stearman, Afobe and Sako), the owner had put us up for sale and the football we played was dire.

We're lucky in the sense as in I think this takeover could save us from a lot worse. Without it I could see us being a relegation fodder side, who sell their best players and don't reinvest the money back into the team (Afobe a good example, sell for 10m and replace only with Joe Mason for 3m). I think we could slip out of the Championship and from there into the L1/L2 wilderness (liks Cov, Sheff Utd).

As for the marketing side I agree. Were the only club that play in gold and black to my knowledge, that alone attracts many fans from around the world believe it or not. The name is iconic too, and there is some decent history too the club. Without meaning to sound arrogant at all, I believe we have all of the pieces of the puzzle in place to become a strong club in this country, like we were in the 50's and 60's. When successful, we could fill the old Molineux with 60k people... and that was half a century ago. If this deal comes off, I have a feeling it could be the 'rebirth' of Wolves if you will.

This would be a remarkable takeover considering the wealth this man possesses.

My question would be, why Wolves?

Not sure either, we are one of many clubs in the country up for sale. Guess we'll find out when/if it becomes official.

Glad it is Wolves being taken over and not Leeds....but soon nearly every club in the PL and championship will be owned by a rich American or Asian (chinese or thai).

Once that happens it will be a free-for-all again with dog-eat-dog.

If Wolves get their act together quickly, is that the two automatic promotion places (Newcastle and Wolves) sorted?:)

You can count us out of that. We've got a billionaire Bristolian!

Good luck to Wolves, but doubt there will be a gert massive spending spree due to not having any parachute payments and FFP.

Bigger wages or fees perhaps, but not both I'd imagine. Will be interested to see how things pan out if he does take over.

When the AC Milan link/news came out yesterday there were a few moaning that he might be planning to buy us to use a a UK feeder and link club, because it would be fucking terrible to be getting AC Milan's cast offs and youth prospects!

Still not totally sold on this being real, however have prepared evidence for the 'where were you when you were shit brigade' for when we have more money than Star Wars, and for 'Money has ruined football so glad we gold him to do one..." for if it doesn't turn out.

People asking why Wolves though like they don't remember how we were widely considered the champions of the world at one stage...257 years ago by our own press.

Yeah, the paperwork has been sent to the FA this morning, now just to tie up all the loose ends.

I'm more excited by this than the foreign invasion at Vale. Wondering whether Wolves might be worth a bit of a punt now

Skybet have us at 4/7 to finish in the top half which is a ridiculously good price. Will have to put a fair bit on it to make some money though.

Perhaps a more exciting prospect will be the link up between Wolves and AC Milan, wouldn't mind Carlos Bacca or Jeremy Menez on a season long loan

I wasn't being serious, we have no chance of signing players like that. More hopeful of having a few of their kids on loan.

We had one of their kids on loan a couple of years ago. Played about 12 mins and it was generally accepted that he was signed because he was poking Cellino's daughter.

Don't think they'll do it straight away, the league is very tough with Newcastle down here and the late start they are having transfer wise this summer won't help them. Feel like this season will be a transition period with promotion being the clear expectation next season. Although if Wolves are close to the playoffs in January I can see them splashing out in the transfer window.
