Any complaints about Japan's penalty being soft can be ignored now.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
That was horrible. So unlucky. The clearance could have gone anywhere

I can't remember such an unfortunate way to lose a game of that magnitude in my lifetime of watching football. Gutwrenching.

I switched over to this after watching a film and the OG happened within 30 seconds. I have to admit i laughed, given the situation. A proper kick in the fanny for that defender.

The Japanese team were unattractive to say the least.

Saw this straight after the game which summed up my thoughts of that last minute of stoppage time!

Very unlucky and such a cruel way to lose..

Disciplined and solid performance right till the end.

(the penalties did kind of even themselves out though I thought)

Even worse we've now probably got to get beaten by the Germans in the 3rd/4th play-off..

They did really well to get to the semi-finals, so well done to them for making it that far.

Should have progressed, by far and away the better side, especially in the second half. Japan could still be playing now and I don't think they'd have scored from open play. Ultimately though, didn't take our chances.

There are few shittier ways to lose a World Cup semi final. Unfortunately she'll remember that for the rest of her life. Rotten luck.

2 - #JPN scored more goals (2) than they had shots on target (1) against #ENG at the #WWC2015 last night. Raid.

Done quite a lot for the women's game this tournament.

However, when I read on the BBC today that they were comparing the 'heartbreak' to Italia '90, I almost spat out my breakfast. The women's game will never ever be as big as the men's, that's a fact that pretty much everybody in the women's game will accept. So quite why the media are intent on force feeding it to the public is beyond me.

I think the comparisons with Italia 90 are valid and understandable. England narrowly losing a World Cup semi-final with a player in tears at the end? It would be strange if no one made that connection.

I don't think the media are force feeding people women's football either. It's getting some coverage during the male close season. It's a World Cup. It's a big deal. BBC coverage has been fantastic and has shown why the BBC exists. I've enjoyed it.

I think its more to do with the way they lost. Wouldnt wish that on any team female or male. ;)

There is no comparison, the importance and impact of it all doesn't come anywhere near close. Quoting somebody in the article claiming it to be 'worse', another saying she hopes Bassetts tears will become as iconic as Gazzas.

I think they are, the addition to FIFA 16 for example is pretty cringeworthy imo. I think some people have totally unrealistic expectations of how the women's game is going to shape up in the future. I saw one news report feature a piece about how women struggle daily to compete with men in football as they do in life, due to vastly differing wages and prize money. I cannot even fathom how people are thick enough to produce a report like that, never mind it get any air time.

That all said, the women's game is making vast improvements as shown in this world cup. Which should see more people take it up and in turn potentially increase the entertainment value of it.

Your opinion is shit. FIFA (video game not the c*** in suits) will only enhance the women's game and have zero negative effects on our enjoyment of playing virtual football.
