Lighten up. I hadn't teased you about losing to Austria yet.

Haha!

:D, ok, now I got it ;)

I can't see Germany defending their title to be honest.

me neither tbh. All the odds are against us this time: Defending a World Cup title happens very seldom and didn't happen during my lifetime . We tried it 3-times and failed (but we are in good company, not even England could do that in 1970 ).

The Confed Cup Winner (we, in 2017) never won the World Cup the following year

All their class players are that bit older

yeah, but we got fresh ones too (like Kimmich, Süle, Werner, Goretzka), all in their early 20's and none of the experienced are yet too old

their keeper has been out for a long time and is that bit older

Neuer is 32 that's not too old for a goalie. And yes, I've stated it that he's out for a long time but he's vastly experienced and should compensate the lack of actual competitive matches. And we have Marc Andre ter Stegen another World Class Goalie and only 26. The Goalie positiion was never a problem for Germany in tournaments, other than England.

But as I wrote I am with you that we won't defend our title (although I really would like it to get the 5th star and reach Brazil in titles (we already overtrumped them in Semi-finals reached, Finals reached (but not in Finals won)

Look no further than France or Spain for me.

These were (and, in case of Spain, still are) my favourites, too. Both impressed me the most when they played against us (although it was only friendlies). Meanwhile I am not so sure anymore about France but they still have an awesome team.

A guid dram
If France click they could take the tournament by storm, but Pogba still looks to be prancing about in midfield pretending to be a top player but not doing much - they need to get him firing if they are to stand a shot at it.

I've had a feeling for Brazil for ages, and I'm sticking with that prediction.

Germany, France, Spain, Brazil. A cigarette paper between them. Germany and France both have immense depth, but you can only pick 23 in a squad and put 11 out on the pitch. I believe I'm right in thinking that if/when Brazil and Germany both win their groups, they could only meet in the final. Revenge and redemption?

They'll all have to survive any Russian antics to stand a chance!

exactly my tipp for the semis, too

If we both meet (again) in a World Cup final (tbh I don't believe that) then it would be

Revenge and redemption for our lost World Cup Final 2002 :D (yeah i know what you really mean with it but hey, it was only a semi final in 2014 (although losing 1-7 at home in the own World Cup is a trauma but they've won recently against us in Germany with 1-0 in a friendly so they had already their revenge )

Reckon we'll get knocked out by Uruguay in the quarters.

In a blow for Argentina and West Ham, Manuel Lanzini has ruptured his ACL in training, so that's 9 months out.

Germany with a 2-1 win v Saudi Arabia last night. German support irritating Low with their booing of Gundogan's every touch.

Why was Gundogan booed?

He and Özil posed with Turkish "dictator" Erdogan when he was in the UK a few weeks ago (Emre Can on the other side declined the offer to meet him).
Gündogan even signed a shirt for him "For my president", this wasn't taken well here in Germany due to our very burdened relationship with Erdogan
Gündogan, like Özil, is born in Gelsenkirchen (Schalke), he has the German Citizenship (and no double citizenship), he went to school here, he played football in Germany since his childhood and he shouldn't kiss arse a "little dictator" like Erdogan just because he's from the country of his parents. His president is Steinmeier not Erdogan.
But at least he excused later because he totally misjudged the turmoil this started here.
I found the constant booing yesterday very annoying and you could see how insecure he played.

Plus the whole Erdogan imprisoning German citizens on political grounds thing generally hasn't gone over well with most of the German population. What Ozil and Gundogan did was dumb as fuck but I suspect they were pressured in to it.

Did anybody watch the highlights of Serbia's 5-1 win over Bolivia? I know the Bolivians aren't that good (though I'd have to ask Lib about that) but the Serbs look quite decent, and I reckon they'll dump the Swiss out of the WC. Two of their goals were stunners.

Another beauty was Chile's second goal against the Poles. Such a shame they're not going to Russia IMO.

G.B. He's still wanking about it

What should Lib tell you other than that? It's like asking me about how shit the Netherlands or Italy are :D

against the Poles :D (North or South)

Yeah, they looked like "World Beaters" last year at this time when they wanted to win the Confed Cup and were beaten by Germany's "U21" ;) Nah, seriously, Vanni: I miss them too at the World Cup. Better them than the bloody Argies but hey, it is how it is

I can't see Germany defending their title to be honest. All their class players are that bit older, their keeper has been out for a long time and is that bit older, and players like ozil are a 1 good game in 3 nowadays. Muller similar really, he's had a poor season and is nowhere near the player of 4-5 years ago.
Look no further than France or Spain for me.

I did think that this would be the case. They looked like what they are -a team that has long since peaked. Timo Werner up front is nowhere near good enough and it showed. They lacked a Schweinsteiger or a Lahm as a leader and Ozil and Muller were terrible after poor seasons.

Hey, it's happened to England enough times to look so poor and lethargic and I'm certain Germany will set about doing something about it straight away.
