We have a few out already, with a retro theme I'm kinda in love with.

Spain, with their homage to 1994:

Belgium with their Euro 84 design:

Then there's Colombia and Germany with their Italia 90 style designs:

Can't wait for Nike's latest shocking England attempt.

I hope Belgium aren't actually going to play in that.

Colombia's shirt is beautiful. The Spain and Germany ones are good but the Belgium one looks too much like a t-shirt.

Germany often have great kits, the bastards. Both England and Korea have Nike, who do shite kits at the moment. Some of these Adidas ones are great.

That's right. A clear "hommage" of the 1990 World Cup winning shirt (although a bit colourless...indicates that we haven't the "shiny" personalities like in 1990? :D. Our national colours, "black, red and gold" have been washed out in the adidas washing machine?)

Germany: 9/10. Needs more color.
Colombia: 7/10. What are those red/blue partial stripes for?
Belgium: 4/10. Looks more like a Christmas sweater than a football kit.
Spain: 8/10. Alright kit, but not sure why they took the photo while Morata was taking off a jacket.

Dirk already posted what the German kit is based on, this is Colombia 1990:

Silver Stone: Forgot to ask in my previous post: Why do Spain pay an homage to 1994? They didn't win anything back then, did they?
I can understand why we commemorate a bit the World Cup 1990 and Colombia too (was their first appearance since the World Cup 1962 in Chile) But Spain in 1994? I am lost...what happened there?

Peru have to play a play off to go through but they've released their new ''home'' and ''change'' strip just the same.

I don't care what they're based on, the Belgium and Colombia ones are still bad imo.

I remember that strip from 1990 well as I was in Germany (Heidelberg) on a school trip and the World Cup had started so we saw a few games. Was going to buy it, but my mother wouldn't have approved as she was a bit anti-German at the time. Always liked it though.

Sorry to hear that Salty. Hope she get over it now ;) (btw: Was your father anti-german too back then? Because you told me here that he often played music from Beethoven, Strauss (and Wagner?). Your Mother must be out of house then, right? ;) )

tbh: Would be weird to see a little scotsman in a scottish town wearing a shirt with our federal eagle and black-red-gold stripes. So maybe your mother was right to forbid this back then

The Belgium one I agree but the Colombian shirt is a beaut.

...I honestly have no idea other than it looks cool. It did hide Luis Enrique's blood well after that elbow I guess :dk:

I think it was because of my dad she was anti-German back then, she and him would have storming fights over the War as my dad was always pro-German in almost everything, and she's always been pro-Jewish. She's over it now though mostly, particularly if you lot are playing England, and she likes Maximilian Schell, Hardy Kruger, Ozil and Boris Becker!

The funniest part is how they think they can get a bite. They have failed so far and won't succeed. No doubt this will get some witty reply as another failed attempt :bg1:

Lib mate, I'm not looking for a bite, although I admit I was kidding when I said Peru's play off spot should be given to Chile. And when I said Gary Medel was 'world class'

But still, I think you're not fully grasping this either. Your player (and captain to make things worse) cheated, simple as. I don't really mind it when a player snorts a whole bag of coke before a footy match as I don't think coke helps one in performing any better, in fact I think it's the complete opposite, but taking performance enhancing drugs or some sort of medicine to help you get over your cold/flu/whatever you're suffering much more quicker so you can feature in an important upcoming match in say three days time is just plain old cheating.

You clearly were, and that doesn't mean you should spam the forum and look like a right twat.

We already have enough Smat's on the forum. I simply don't have time. I'm not the same poster I was 2 years ago I'm afraid. If you want me to bite, you need to put in a hell of an effort.

It's not really Spain paying homage to anything. It's adidas paying homage (aka doing what they think will make them a lot of money) but homage to memorable old kits, not to results on the pitch.

It doesn't matter that Spain didn't win in 1994 or that Belgium were bad in 1984 or whether 1990 was Colombia's first World Cup for decades. adidas are just trying to sell shirts in 2018. Tbf doing retro designs for hipster football nations (Colombia, Belgium) seems to me a smart way to do that.

That means I don't really see the Germany shirt as commemorating the 1990 win btw. I dare say if you'd lost that final we'd still be seeing this kit as part of this range.

Fair enough. adidas and the German FA are working together since the (footballing) stone age. And, yes, of course they want to sell shirts but this retro look is imo nonetheless an homage to a successful campaign for Germany (and the german fim adidas). tbh I didn't like the World Cup 1990 shirt back then because I am a (don't laugh) traditionalist in this case and I love the pure white and black dress which was always our shirt colours and the black-red-gold stripes were really not my cup of tea (and they've "experimented" with the german flag colours later (emulating "wings" of our federal eagle or other crap). For me a German shirt must be black-white with the federal eagle and nothing else (ok the 4 stars for the World Cups, and 5 after 2018 ;) , and the World Champion emblem is nice too )

btw: Unimportant detail: By mentioning the close connection of the German FA and adidas I want to ask, why is Nike, an american firm, the supplier for the English team.? Was it only the money that Nike paid to be shirt supplier of the team or weren't english shirt suppliers interested anymore to supply the Three Lions (and don't want to be associated therefore with their regular failings in tournaments :D )
At least in football I can't imagine that the German National team will ever play in a shirt not from a german company (ok, I know that these shirts are not necessarily produced in Germany but all around the world (for less money than in Germany) ). Maybe you "Engländer" are more progressive than we are with our flagship in football. We never even had a foreign coach for our national team and this was not even discussed (don't know if this is a "doctrine" at the German FA that the coach had to be "deutsch" but it's a fact. We never had an "Ausländer (johnny foreigner)" as coach. Even England had them for their team (although with no more luck than the usual english coach (except Sir Alf Ramsey) ). Anyway I am going off topic here...sorry.

I'd imagine it's as simple as Nike bidding more than anyone else. Despite us being shit we're still probably a more attractive commercial proposition than someone like Poland or Chile who are above us in the FIFA rankings.

If having an English logo on the shirt was important Nike could slap an Umbro one on there but I guess having the Nike logo seen throughout our 2nd round defeat montages is more important.

I think you're in a different spot having one of the big two brands (Nike and adidas) being German. If there was an English brand with the heritage of adidas we may have kept the same tradition. I don't see Dunlop or Gola outbidding Nike any time soon though. Which is unfortunate. A Gola England kit would be brilliant.

Nike isn't German, it's American: Do you mean Puma?
Adolf Dassler took over the company of his father in the early 1920's and later worked together with his brother Rudolf. But after the WWII they decided to part ways and divide the company. Adolf named his company as a combination of his nickname (Adi) and part of his surname Dassler, Adidas and Rudolf named his sports-shoe company Puma

England used to have Umbro, an English company... until they were bought out by Nike.

Surely the German kit should be commemorative of '94, y'know because that's the first WC of unified Germany since '38.

Thank god they didn't do this. That's exactly the crap shirt I mentioned earlier ( with emulating the wings of the Bundesadler. It burnt its wings because we were shite in 1994). Horrible design, even worse than the 1990 one.

I didn't know that Umbro was an English company. Always thought it was Italian (maybe because of the brand name, sounds more italian than english. )

I guess that was before Effenberg gave a different kind of bird to the fans ;)

Did Italy release their kit? Apparently they were so confident of making the WC that they even booked their hotels and training base in Russia for next year and now Denmark are taking it from them
